"Because he made a dumbass decision like every college student has made in their day"

Most college kids don't get caught driving around with illegal guns while doing drugs and speeding. Redfield has been a cancer for awhile. He never learned from any of his "second chances" and will face consequences.
Sometimes consequences are more valuable than second (or third) chances.

I am not trying to rate or have a pecking order for making dumb ass decisions but all college kids do. Max Redfield isn't the only player on this team this week who probably went on a burn cruise. He is the dumbass who got caught with the gun and,,,,,yeah but he's also the guy who shows and has always shown zero leadership ability.

I'm a Redfield fan because it's like clockwork with me I thought he was gonna breakout and even BK made some glowing comments about him.Good luck to Max in the future and I sure hope you learn from this.

How many "mulligans" should he be allowed?!? He's an out of control immture person. Jelly showed him the door like they should have and no regrets on ND side! He was a "cancer" to the team and it was operation time to rid the "cancer" from the team!

I hope Max gets a job with the Steelers one day. Obviously not as a player..lol.. but we could use his size as an usher during those Browns/Ravens/Bengals games that sometimes get a little rowdy.

This is probably the right decision. Probably most because of the tone it sets for the rest of the program. And while I too was hoping this was the year it all happened for Redfield, I doubt having him or not is the difference between winning and losing any individual game this year.
But I don't really understand the desire around here to shit all over a young man who made a stupid mistake - probably not his first, but still - and just had the worst weekend of his life.. Redfield hurt no one but himself here.

I am not saying Redfield busted his ass 100% of the time because he didn't at all. But the bigger the stage the bigger Redfield played. He had a couple great games and then there were plenty of games he looked like a walk on. Look like Tarzan played like Jane at times. I don't know why I love Redfield so much maybe because I've never been so jacked about landing a commitment but what you said it's wrong at all.

Hoo boy, don't know about that. I wouldn't even know where to begin to list his best career games.

Michigan '14 has to be up there. 6 tackles and an interception, not amazing numbers, but he damn near ripped Gardner's head off as the final play of a 31-0 beat down.

Though I understand why people are dumping on Redfield (he hasn't lived up to the hype, he's made publicly bad decisions before, he exercised poor judgment as an upperclassman, people are incredibly judgmental when the scrutiny is on someone else), I agree with the sentiment that it's time to move on and hope the young man finds his way to a successful life.

I thought he played well against Clemson, LSU, Stanford and to end the season I thought he played really well against BC and Wake. Did he play like everyone wanted him too, the elite 5* difference maker safety we haven't had since Harry had one great season? No, but was he our best safety? Yes, are we fcked at safety? Yes

How do you know this?

Sorry, I wasn't saying I know it is not his, was just saying there was some talk that it wasn't. I just wanted to point out that no one has confirmed it was or wasn't Max's gun so I don't want all of us to get our hopes up that the other four will just have to deal with "pot possession suspensions" until we know for sure.

Didn't he violate curfew with an underclassman (Tillery) prior to the bowl game? Now, the only senior with four underclassmen that may lead to possible trouble/suspensions for them? I agree, just stuff college kids do, but his poor leadership influence off the field can't be accepted within a big time program that is trying to get to the next level. Hope he rebounds but his opportunity at ND appears justifiably over.

Sucked because you say the gun wasn't his. if it was his, the worst would be over but you're saying someone else is going to be in serious trouble.

That sucks.

Maybe, maybe not. Depends on who owned the car. Sounds like none of the kids may have been aware of the handgun. (I would like to know if the model of handgun, body style of the Focus, and the owner of the Focus have been identified.)

Saw this on another site.

I have been trying to find it. Somewhere I saw it in print. The gun was not owned by anyone in the car. It must have been a semi-auto, with loaded magazine and one in the chamber, or a loaded revolver.

I have been looking for pictures of the Focus to see if it was a hatchback. If it was, and the gun was in the hatch area, none of the occupants may have known of it. But as a law enforcement officer explained, the wingspan rule is used. Anyone within reach, or anyone within throwing distance, can be charged. This would explain why the three in the back seat were charged and the two in the front weren't.

It is particularly critical that the driver wasn't charged with anything gun related, because he was in control of the vehicle. Which makes me wonder if anyone knows yet whose Focus it was. Apparently sources agree that Ashton White was driving.

And here is an interesting quote :

And here is an interesting quote :

Two days after being arrested for possession of marijuana and an unlicensed handgun senior safety Max Redfield has officially been dismissed by Brian Kelly from the Notre Dame football program.
We know that he wasn't arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed handgun. Because licensed or unlicensed is irrelevant. It was transportation that was the misdemeanor charge, i.e., one in the chamber. So I am thinking Maxi must have had the doobie, and because of his feces-filled general logic over his career, Kelly just put him out of his misery.

Unless someone comes forward and says I own that gun, there is no way to tell who owns it. There is no registration when it comes to firearms and they are sold second hand with zero paperwork a lot.

why? Because he made a dumbass decision like every college student has made in their day? Or because he busted his ass on the football field for ND for three years? Is he mature as a 12 year old? Yes, but at times Redfield busted his ass and to bad he never lived up to his potential which IMO wasn't always on him. I was a huge Max Redfield fan and it sucks he's not a leader when he needed to be and his career had to end like this. It's hard for me to hate on someone as a person for making mistakes like a college kid because fck I've made them just like most people have. But Max really did fuck up and I'm just honestly sad his career ended like this.

How come he keeps screwing up then? Aren't you supposed to learn from your mistakes?

Agreed, and, as a head coach, you have to rely on your seniors to be the responsible role models for the future of the program. There was no way he was coming back from this. See ya later, Max!

I can't be the first person to mention this...but one of Koon's bod squad have once again screwed up/found trouble/failed to live up to the potential of their 6 pack.

Koon, no more fantasizing over players, you ruin careers.

No kidding. We should just target Longo bods from now on. At least they stay on the roster.

Not sure if it's been discussed...

Who was a bigger disappointment, Ishaq or Max?

To me, it's Max and it's not even close. Ishaq wasn't utilized correctly, and then when he would've had the chance to possibly prove himself as a true DE as an upperclassmen there was the #FrozenFive.

Max was given ample opportunity from the moment he showed up on campus and just continually self-destructed. That's more disappointing to me because he should have been such a bigger impact player.

he was never a natural safety though, he probably was only put there due to depth issues. he should have been tried at WR at some point perhaps.

Max had a pathetic career when you factor in how big of a signing he was and the hype.... and never lived up to the hype because he's immature.

That's it. Hope he gets it together and makes something of himself.

5* Busts of the BK era:

Dayne Crist
Max Redfield
Ishaq Williams
Gunner Kiel (although he didn't stay long)
Greg Bryant (RIP) (again, didn't stay long enough)

I left Eddie V off the list since he didn't even make it to campus. Kid has been pretty good at UCLA (although he's hurt right now I believe).

Of these guys, I think Greg could've been good had things worked out for him off the field. His 5* ranking was always suspect though. Gunner's ranking was suspect too. I think he could've done alright but obviously he hasn't done much at Cincy. I agree with Lax regarding Ishaq. Had he been utilized correctly, I think he could've been very productive. He clearly has something there as he's a member of the NY Giants. That leaves Max and Dayne. Dayne suffered some injuries and he had moments of being decent. But he just didn't have that "it" factor. I don't remember his back story, so idk if his recruiting ranking was legit or not, but a 5* QB following Jimmy Clausen out of CA to play for Weis should've had a pretty high ceiling. Pair him with BK's offense, and I feel like Dayne should've been 10x the player he actually was. Hell, he even sucked at Kansas. Off the field though, he was a class-act. Which is why I put Max as the biggest 5* bust of the BK era. He wasn't very good on the field and he had issues off it as well...and he was given every opportunity to be great. That's my opinions on the subject anyways.

Disagree, he was rated extremely highly by every service as a S. No one projected him being better at WR, if I remember correctly. USC, ND, etc. all recruited him as a safety.
