This will surely be nominated for "Thread of Year" during next year's Envies, so we're going with (1).

In that case:

honestly, this kid seems very confused right now and i don't think he really knows what to do.

totally agree dude. tbh he always seemed kind of unsure of himself to me, not surprized now if others are doing the talking for him.

I believe that the Vanderdoes family knows exactly what it wants to do, and that is for Eddie to stay "closer" to home and at UCLA.

Their problem, once that emotional decision was reached [for whatever reason], is simply how to accomplish that with minimal damage to Eddie's own emotions and football career.

The idea that the young man will end up in an Irish uniform seems, on the small real factual basis we have, to border on the fantastic delusional at this point.

Love to be wrong.... can't see how this time.

That may be.
The trouble is, UCLA isn't exactly "close" to home. It's still a six-hour drive from where he lives. Closer than ND, sure, but significantly farther than several other reasonable options, like Cal or Nevada.
Selling the "he needs out of his LOI so he can be close to home for family reasons," and then winding up at UCLA, most of a day's drive away, seems like kind of a tough sell. Maybe that's what's taking so long.

I do think the longer this goes on without any official resolution, the better the (slim) odds he at least shows up at Notre Dame, though. What happens after that, who knows.

I understand exactly what you are saying.

But to quote Mike Tyson, (when he was winning): "Everybody has a plan until they get hit in the mouth."

I have no idea what is going on in the Vanderdoes camp. The only thing I strongly suspect is they don't have much of an idea either. So this is one of those kind of things that I could see going any one of 25 different ways. But Mike Frank said it best when he talked about these young recruits that vacillate back and forth, how they don't have a good picture and they often don't meet their goals or their potential.

All I have is questions. One of which is, when Eddie hits the wall, which way will he go? Will he pick himself up, dust himself off and play? Or will he stand on principle?

First post here on IE but would like to give my thoughts on the whole EV ordeal.

First I am a Bama fan but grew up watching Notre Dame in the early 80's. It feels like it was just yesterday when ole Lou was whipping the U when everyone doubted him. I am glad to see the Irish get back to being one of the great college football teams in the country.

Now... about the EV deal. Notre Dame should hold him to it and if he chooses to not report then that's on him. He has yet to give a reason I would think that would be valid for the Irish to release him. The young man has a right to change his mind.... but he also made a commitment to Notre Dame and it appears he is going to learn an early life lesson on what commitment means. Stick to your guns Notre Dame.... and let the Cali lawyers like that clown that was posting his "War and Peace" responses yesterday cry about it.

The Bama fan has summarized the Vanderdoes situation nicely. We could remove most of what has been written during the last two weeks. The whole situation is about honoring your word and being held accountable for your decisions.

From reading the huddle up interview with jaylon it does not seem too positive for EV to show up...

I have a question.. Is that the girl from "She's All That"?

Yessir!

Rachael Leigh Cook (slight spelling difference dublin)
I was so hooked on her at the time...also, they say that of the various don't do drugs PSA's, that hers was the most memorable and most effective...She did a takeoff on it for Robot Chicken that was pretty funny too

I may be wrong, but I have a feeling he'll end up at ND when he loses his appeal. The family probably thinks he has a great shot of winning his appeal based only on the "hope factor". Similar to these giant lawsuits where someone thinks they're going to get rich off a large corporation because the attorney told them. Then things drag out and they finally are worn down with the entire process. Since he's salivated back and forth before, once the appeal is over, he's basically at the end and either walks thru the door or has to stand there for a year. He won't want to wait a year to play.
