You are completely missing the point. HALF of those kids become STARS. That is why recruiting at a high level is critical.

Unfortunately, it seems like a lot of the busts came came ND. Stockton and Crist come to mind. Not much of a surprise that ND fans see this as a glass half empty...

The Alamo fell.

Et tu, Schrader?

But seriously, I think most people who are objective have seen this as a ND v UCLA race with Alabama as a massive wildcard, knowing the power of a visit to Tuscaloosa. Looks like their are 3 viable landing spots now, and I am hoping for the best.

I shall never fall sir!

I've been quiet as of late...trying not to get emotional invested in recruiting this season.

I think Eddie is Irish though.

I actually think that, percentage wise, recently ND has had a lower bust rate than most other top schools. Go back and look at the list of 5 stars the past 10 years on Rivals, and although we don't have a big number, ours seem to contribute at a much higher clip than most other schools.

Abiamiri hit.
Aldridge missed, but largely because of injuries.
Sam Young I consider a hit, but maybe not at a 5 star level.
Clausen hit.
Floyd hit
Rudolph hit.
Crist missed.
Te'o hit.
Tuitt hit.
Ishaq TBD, but so for a missed.

7-10. To me, that is a solid really percentage. Every school has hits and misses. I think we have had a lot of hits, but we also had to go through Tyrone lack of recruiting and Charlie's relative lack of defensive recruiting and player development.

UA has Darius Paige, Tim Williams, soon to be A'Shawn Robinson and most likely Dee Liner. While I certainly am not discounting UA, I hope he sees the numbers game.

Not to mention 5 DTs (as categorized by Rivals) in last years cycle.

I talked to an alum who has good connections with the program and said Vanderdoes will be Irish.

Thanks for the info. Hope he is right, but it's hard for me to put stock into things like that before I think Eddie even knows for sure himself where he is going. Personally, I don't think his true decision will come until after he sits down with his entire family / support system after the Bama visit and hashes things out.

I'm looking at this visit as a positive for ND. Keeps his mind off of UCLA and has ND as his most recent visit in which his mother is reportedly all for. Now comes the news of A'Shawn Robinson during his visit.

I'll never discount Saban but Vanderdoes and his family do not appear easily influenced.

Just wondering why so many think he's going to UCLA (forgive me if I've missed something)?

Has he visited there more than other places?

Is it close to his home?

Has he said something about them that he hasn't to the rest of his visits?

Does he tweet about them more?

Does he have friends there or friends in their current class?

I think it's either Bama or ND. We have mom on our side, but he's having dinner at Saban's house? Wow, lol.

Mostly because his visit to UCLA is what caused him to open up his recruitment in the first place and they're who most unbiased people thought would be his choice if he wanted to stay in Cali.

I am not getting upset about nice tweets from his Bama visit. He's a civilized kid from a good family who was raised right, so he's following the "say positive things about your hosts" rule.

That's my take on him at least until he spurns the Irish.

Based on what though? Proximity to home? How close IS UCLA to home?

And are we sure about that timeline? Because I know EV said he had been decommitted from USC for 3 weeks before anyone outside of his family and USC had known. So based on that, did he actually decommitt immediately following the UCLA visit or had he already been for a while?

This pick from the US Army game isn't helping my confidence.

I think early playing time is going to be important to his decision. Not sure about it but I don't think EV has "watched" from the sidelines in his career. He would spend some considerable time there at Bama. I think this is another reason UCLA is attractive to him.

would it be corny if Coach Kelly, Diaco, Dembrock, and Elston are waiting for him at the Tuscaloosa Airport?

I have to say the EV recruitment regardless of how it turns out has been a heck of a saga. It has been really interesting especially after the USC decommitment. I don't follow recruiting as well as other posters on this site as I am more interested in breaking down match ups and future depth charts than recruiting. That being said I have found the EV recruiting to be really interesting story to follow.

Bama oversigns every year like all the other SEC schools. They have no problems signing EV, Poggie, Lawson, Liner and another 10 recruits on top of that. Until the NCAA steps in and stops it, ND will be SOL because they don't play games like that when a kid's academic future is in the balance.

That may not be a big factor for two reasons. First, we rotate a lot on the D-line, If you're in the two-deep, you're a starter for all practical purposes and seeing plenty of playing time. Second, if the kid's very confident, he may see this as a challenge he wants to rise to.

If you get him you get him. Alabama will get a top notch class every year that Saban is there so I'm not really sweating it. I will say this though, we need to get much deeper on the O/D lines if we are gonna get us a crystal ball so it would be a hell of a pick-up for us if he decided to come here.

I think we're in the mix, but I still don't think we get him. It'll take a year or two to get that sort of depth on both lines, but you're on the right path. Kelly's doing a good job and building your team for the long haul. Be patient. You're getting there.

Elite prospects never care about the numbers game. They think/know they're the cream of the crop and it doesn't matter.

I really don't have a good read on him. My best guess is that it's between you and the Bruins, with Bama having an outside shot at him. That we got the last shot at him this weekend helps us, but I still think ND or UCLA are more likely.
