I understand and mean no disrespect.

Williams will probably move to DE anyway. He has been doing really well there. Romeo, he the CAT next year. Do you agree? Looks like he is coming on STRONG!

I was just responding to your question on why we would want to move to a scheme that requires more Dlineman. Because of fit, it may make more sense at that time. The numbers and fit for those players actually works out better in a 4-3 even with the added lineman. To answer your question no I don't think that Ishaq play 3-4 DE as his main position. Could he have reps there yes but from everything Diaco has said (media day), Ishaq will be starting CAT and weakside DE (4-3) next year. Next year will be Ishaq's year to finally play (consistantly) a role that suits his attributes and ILB or 3-4 DE are not those. He more than likely has his long awaited coming out party.

Extremely happy with his performance and effort. Not AS worried about NT that I was before this game.

Kid is a stud. Played real weak competition in high school and needed time to adjust to college athletes.

I don't like how people have been saying he is a bust. The kid is a red shirt freshman. Everyone wants instant gratification.

Congratulations to Jarron for not only a great game but one of the most necessary surprises ever.

To people who wonder why he hasn't yet played much: we've been told and/or hinted that JJones doesn't yet do the needed non-gameday work. He may simply be one of those high school-dominant kids who hasn't got the message yet. Calabreese couldn't unseat McDonald originally because he insisted on being only a gamer. DDaniels has some of the same problems.

JJones got in because we are utterly desperate... AND he showed that the sky's the limit for him. What we need to hope for next season are players who threaten to steal his reps if he doesn't ratchet it up in the off-season and practice. If he's motivated then we just might have another Tuitt, but playing on the nose.

.... and THAT would cast one heck of a different light on next season's prospects.

Jarring Jones said he was sent down to the scout team for two weeks (USC week and bye week before) & called it a humbling experience.

Sherm, no offense but I hardly ever find myself nodding in agreement with your assessments. Not that I'm always right by any stretch, but for whatever reason I always seem to have the opposite opinion on players as you do. But this one is dead on.

He looked like the immediate answer to the hole in next year's DLine.

Build on it next week!

If this is all it took to get the light to turn on, great! Thank God it happened now, sophomore year.

I've been as hard on Jarron Jones as anyone. But I have a weird theory that with Nix sitting out and Jarron filling in these last 3 games, it's going to really impact his off-season.

He got his first taste of success against BYU, and he seemed to be loving it (who wouldn't?). He's probably riding high, realizing he can actually be a big time player and maybe create a future in the NFL for himself.

Stanford is probably going to kick his butt, and give him a reality check (hope I'm wrong), and he'll realize how much work he has to do to actually be a play maker... He can't just show up and go through the off-season motions and become a star.

This brief taste of success (BYU), followed with a humbling game against Stanford, will be the perfect combination for him to really get after it in the off season.

Just my crazy kool-aid prediction.

Here's some interesting perspective from Mike Frank on Jones:
Jones' demeanor reminds me a lot of another young Irish defensive lineman who I met for the first time a few years ago---Louis Nix. I remember Nix as an awkward, unsure and quiet, soft-spoken young man the first time I spoke with the future first-round pick. Jarron Jones seems to have a lot of Louis Nix in him. One can tell he knows he has the potential to be a great player, just as Nix did, and once Nix decided he was going to be, and stayed committed to that idea, great things happened for him. Could Saturday's performance be the same coming out party for Jones?

Simple fact is that Jones is only a RS frosh, and has so much time in front of him that if he wants to be that dominant interior guy I see nothing stopping him. All it takes is mental fortitude and determination.

Lol you are correct. Pathetic is more accurate. Out of all the scholarship players on the team, he probably played the worst competition in high school.

Seems to be a common theme w/ the NY kids, no? Ishaq is in the same boat, imo. Solid player, lots of potential, but the weak competition and coaching causes them to come into college a bit behind. I wouldn't say this is cause for concern with future recruiting, ie Hayes/Holley, in the NY area. It has, however, caused me to take a step back and be patient with certain players from certain areas and give them a break. Some of these guys just need time to develop. Not everyone will have an instant impact.

I think we could hear this a few times over the loud speaker next season. I think Jarron started to come on late once he won the coaches trust and filled in for Big Lou

If Jones has grown into a serviceable DT, our DL depth looks a lot less scary next year.

I agree. Is there still a decision being made as far as whether we will be in the 3-4 alignment or 4-3?

Outside of message boards, was this decision ever really "being made". I don't remember anyone actually on the staff mentioning a transition.
