Where would he play if he was on the basketball team? Certainly too short to play down low and certainly too big to play on the perimeter. This isn't high school basketball anymore, 6'6" is considered short in basketball. Just stick to your strengths and play football
DeJuan Blair is only 6'7" and he dominated the Big East and plays big minutes for the Spurs.
It is for the NBA where length is coveted but he could manage in college. Harangody wasn't much taller than 6'6 and he dominated.
Bill King: Are you going to be able to sit Ronnie Stanley or is he going to have to be in the two-deep?
Brian Kelly: I think he's going to have to be in the two-deep. He's probably hit the wall a little bit right now .....
He's shown an intuitiveness at the position that is well beyond a Freshman. He's got great length, he's got size. He's got an attitude that he wants to play, so right now he would be "on the bus".

I honestly believe that if pushed at tackle, Kelly would shift Nick Martin into the gap rather than blow a Ronnie Stanley eligibility year. This even if NMart were starting over Golic at the time. Nick apprenticed behind Zach all last year. The other thing that I'd consider is giving Hegarty some re-tuning at tackle. He was our best tackle prospect until warriner/Hiestand saw that he was our solution to losing Braxton after next season. There are still [just] enough moving pieces to preserve Ronnie's year.
agree with this...but i don't know with our depth at the position currently if this will be enough to keep the redshirt on him.
question...what does coach kelly mean by hit the wall??[/QUOTE]
i took it to mean that he was learning and improving piece by piece but has now been given too much so it is going to be slowed a bit...such as w/ protection, technique, playbook etc

I took it to mean that Stanley, like all Freshman, reach a point at some point during the Fall where either the physical or mental demands being placed upon them are so different that they "hit the wall" resulting in a difficult day. They all face it, deal with it, and move on. It was not a slight against Stanley at all.
Nice...Zack Martin loses his helmet and Stanley goes into his first college game for one play...dang

He played extensively in the fourth quarter against Navy at LT
Lou @ B&G: Stanley still eligible for 5th year because he only had extensive play against Navy in the opener and took 1 snap when Martins helmet came off. All of this happened before the 6th game and he played less then 20% or not more then 2 games.
Color me confused. It's one one play = one year now?
Well that's confusing and wonderful at the same time!

Is Stanley hurt? This is the rule for medical redshirts. It doesn't apply to healthy players. Unless you suffer a season-ending injury (and even then, the conditions described by Lou must be met), even one play is enough to burn a redshirt, and Stanley played way more than that.
I had a high school teammate play at Louisville. He took a redshirt his Freshman year, despite playing in garbage time in his first four games. He explained to me that as long as you don't play after the halfway point of the season, and you play less than a certain amount of minutes (can't remember the exact number), the NCAA can still grant you a redshirt. Doesn't have to be medical.
