Tuitt and can't Day and Jones also rotoate inside?
I believe in the never can have enough pass rusher school of though. If a top DL like Schutt wants in, I take him. I understand the numbers game but I take a guy like Schutt to add to the team.
I'm with ya man. I will never be able to understand passing on top 10 lineman on def or off. The funny thing is, we will add several 3* guys to this class while possibly passing on a top10 Dlineman. Crazy stuff.
I'd take him. Assuming we bring back Cwynar, we'll still be 4-deep at NT in 2012 without Schutt, but 2013 could be scary if we skip on a NT completely this year. With Cwynar gone and Stockton unlikely to get a 5Y, we'd be down to just Nix, Springmann, and any true freshman we bring in next cycle.
Much could depend on how frequently the staff plans to use Tuitt at NT. Tuitt's flexibility likely makes Schutt a luxury.
holding out hope here, but i (like many others) were not thrilled with us passing him up from the get go. it'll be interesting to see how this one ends up. can't say no a second time, if we get a second chance.
I was not thrilled either- I think we should never pass on Top 10 DLmen unless we already have 3 pure D-linemen in that class. While I can understand that we may have been holding out for an Armistead-level DLman, and that we may have to slow-play some very good players if we want to sign the elite kids, I think you err on the side of DLinemen.
As far as "pride" goes, I don't think there is anything humiliating about finding out your spot was taken. He had the offer and could have committed earlier. Tommy should just see this as a new opportunity. He has to know that NO ONE IN THE WORLD WILL REMEMBER (OR CARE ABOUT) ANY OF THIS A YEAR FROM NOW.
I am of the opinion that you really should be doing your homework your junior year, and should have a good enough idea of where you want to go that you can act if you are offered. The whole idea that you should take your time and really let the process play out is rolling the dice, IMO.
i hear what you're saying, but i wonder how many times a recruit as elite as tommy is can be told "sorry we're full"
Not too often, but it happened to Tommy twice in a week.
No doubt pride could overcome the kid and he could chose based on his ego rather than reality. That reality is that we only thought we needed one interior lineman and a comparable talent pulled the trigger first.
Pride is a vice and humility is the virtue. Pride hurts you, despite the prevailing wisdom of college football fandom. The smart move is just to assess the situation and chose the best place for him.
the unfortunate thing is that this should have been an enjoyable process for him, but now it has turned into a nightmare and will always dread thinking about it.
Honestly, I don't know why people think that is a lock. KLM, Slaughter, Cave are the only locks right now. I could totally see grabbing a guy like Schutt in place of bringing back either Golic or Cwynar for a 5th year.
Probably should have quoted what I was referring to.
The guy is getting recruiting to play football in college, he's not dreading anything. It's not like ND was his dream school. He waited too long, spots filled, we both have moved on.
Makes me cringe a little bit:

This kid definitely sounds like a Notre Dame kid. Very intelligent and athletic.
If we have an extra opening at anytime I definitely wouldn't mind him taking it.
I've heard from numerous people that even if Notre Dame opened the gate, Tommy will not consider the Irish.

Hearing he flipped to OSU just trying to confirm it from something.
