News story I came across. He almost makes it sound like he didn't fit in.

Neal, Foster emblematic of rivals' recruiting efforts : Arizona football

During their senior year I lived right on the Saguaro - Chaparral border about 2 miles from each school. DJ Foster had the single greatest high school football season I ever saw. 3000 yards rushing, 60 TD's and didn't even play against Neal and Chaparral because the Saguaro's Coach Sanders sat his starters for a playoff run. The two schools were a division apart (even though the enrollments were within 200 students) so it didn't hurt either teams state championship runs. They both won their divisions. Anyways, Chaparral won the game 60 something to 0. Sanders won 4 state championships in 5 years and got fired AFTER winning the state championship that year and became the ASU director of football operations for a couple of years.

In regards to Neal, I thought he was going to be a high level punt returner and a good CB at the next level. He was an elite 100m runner early in high school so he had serious wheels.

Don't want to put a curse on Damian Alloway but they had very similar high school careers. Great in all 3 aspects of the game.

Arizona Daily Wildcat :: Column: DaVonte' Neal has underperformed what was once a promising career for Arizona football

Going back to UCLA week, the Wildcats' first official road game was supposed to be the chance for veterans like Neal to shine and save Arizona from falling under .500. The defensive back had four tackles, but also gave up a 62-yard touchdown and apparently put extra butter on his popcorn before the game because he struggled to wrap up ball carriers.

“I missed a lot of tackles—too many tackles to count—and I just have to get better on the perimeter at making tackles and just making plays on the ball,” Neal said after the Wildcats fell to 2-3.

Sounds like he'd fit right into the defense. Although the staff probably would have kept him at WR.

Kind of funny that Neal and Ferguson transfer the same year. Both were WR's and now both are on the defensive side of the ball at their new school.

With all the talk of slot receivers in the Keys thread, it made me wonder what ever happened with Davonte.

He signed with Toronto in the CFL but didn't make the final roster.

It looks like he's helping coach high school ball back at Chaparral. He had some pretty self reflective posts on Twitter and it looks like he's had some personal growth in the process.

Saw him at a restaurant after a Chaptown game last season. I had a '77 Green Machine shirt on so I didn't ask for an autograph.

Damn, this guy's life has really taken a downward spiral in the last 10 years. Bad choices can lead to more bad choices.

Maybe Kelly had good reason to change recruiting strategies….jeez, 2 future murderers on the 2012 squad
That whole 2012 recruiting cycle... Darby, Greenberry, Tee Sheppard... then the delayed announcement from Davonte in the February(?) after signing day. After the 2011 back and forths with Tuitt and Lynch it was a crazy 2 years of recruiting.
