My only reply to those who think this is a good thing:

With a 2 QB system, we beat the best defense in the SEC. Many observers this spring said Golson was CLEARLY the better passing QB. I hope Zaire continues to develop because we will have to rely on his arm to make plays this season. He's shown he can complete 6-10 passes and rush for nearly 100 yds. Can he complete 20+ if called upon?

One thing we can certainly be excited about: we will be running the ball at a good clip this season. We will have jumbo packages galore.

One can make an argument LSU had checked out by that point. One could also argue that if EG played the whole game, he could've coughed up the game like he did during the season. Two sides to a story.

As for the whole passing situation in March/April, its passing in March/April..I don't put any stock into it.

EG has had plenty of issues on the field while he also had plenty of positives as well. Personally, I think its just time to turn the page and its best for both parties. I still think MZ is better equipped to lead the team.

Well in the spring game a year ago, MZ looked like a world beater and he sat the bench till SC.

In a real game against a program known for having great DB's Malik put the ball where it needed to be on 14 of 15 passes. Robinson didn't make his usual adjustment on the underthrown back shoulder pass on one that would have been good for 21 yds and the LSU defender made a great play knocking the ball out of CR's hands on a perfectly thrown pass that would have been good for 26 yeards So he could have very easily been 14-15 for 143 yards. Neither of those incomplete passes cost the Irish as they scored TD's on both drives.

On the otherhand, we were one play away from never hearing Golson's name again but he got LUCKY on a horrible pass he fortunately completed to Fuller.

Let's not act like MZ CAN'T throw the ball, he did it near perfectly against LSU when it counted.

I wish him well. He made a mistake, owned it, fought through it, came back, got his degree. I respect the hell out of this kid. Plus, he was on one of the most exciting Irish teams in maybe the last 18 or so years. He is a great athlete, I enjoyed watching him. Good luck to him, he has character.

I may have a bad memory but it seemed like Golson got as many yards passing as Malik in that bowl game & most of Malik's throws were short---when we had to pass downfield even in the final scoring drive Kelly went to Golson.

I think its totally unclear what will happen when Malik has a poor throwing day that costs us a game. Thinking Malik will go wire to wire playing lights out is IMHO totally unreasonable expectations for a young QB that has not yet played in a single complete game. Expectations need to have some correlation with the reality of the situation.

Teams are going to load the box against ND, negating the whole running QB advantage somewhat. Losing EG was a tough blow to ND's running game.

The season now depends on the development of MZ's arm.

1. I won't discredit our whole team that way. And I recall some reports of LSU players saying they couldn't wait to play Notre Dame and show what they could do.

2. I don't necessarily disagree with this. We've all seen Golson on fire when there is limited contact. We've also seen him take over games when needed. I expect he'll lead whatever team he joins to at least 8 wins, unless it's a third-tier program.

So, any guesses where he'd go?

Just looking at situations, it seems like he would be the guy for Oregon State. Their new OC is Gooood, and they are in depth chart flux anyway, with new coaches and a departed star in Manion. He could make them contenders. If I was Gary Andersen I'd be standing outside EGs dorm in a trenchcoat holding up a boom box...

Outside that, he could work out at a number of places...as identified in some articles that aare out there. If I were him I'd avoid the SEC...

I don't think so. We've got an OL that should dominate most the teams we play. This isn't Tommy Rees behind center, Zaire will beat teams with his feet and he can throw well enough to make them respect the pass. I think there will be growing pains, but Zaire ran the ball on a decent SEC defense in LSU, there's no reason to think he won't do the same against the average defense we'll face. If they do stack the box Kelly will probably revert to his Bubble Screens or have Malik hit some quick swing passes to keep the defense honest.

"Is that you, Imani?"

No just his consigliere.

My statement is 100% accurate. He was nearly perfect. He put 14 of 15 where they needed to be and 2 of the 3 incompletions shoulda / coulda been caught by Robinson. The one bad ball he threw was a completely overthrown bomb that no one had a chance to catch. If anything, that kept the DB's honest for EG's next 4 passes where he completed 3 for 36 yards.

If MZ passes like that every game this fall, ND will be the National Champs.

Good for Golson for sticking through for his education and getting his degree. I wish him well for what his future holds for him.

As far as Golson being our best option for winning a NC-- I disagree with all of you. I was thinking about this on my way home from work. Specifically about the USC game, the game was lost early on, and when Malik came in he gave us a spark. He made the game exciting. Then you look at the game vs. LSU where he also performed well and was into being a ND QB.

Godspeed Everett and time for Malik to take over!

He didn't get suspended for a year for doing everything he was asked to do. The adversity he had to overcome was self-inflicted. He paid the price and did the time. He earned his job back. Good on him for that, but it was a job he never should have lost.

Good luck to him wherever he goes. Hopefully he can make it into the NFL.

I tend to give kids at ND credit for certain situations, that while they may bring them upon themselves, they are forced to face them...and learn from them. If he were at another school outside a few, would any of this have impacted his playing career?

He chose ND, he finished at ND...Thats what he was asked to do.

While it's EG day I'd like to ask a question that I've never heard brought up.

If MZ's helmet doesn't come off, does EG even get to come back in on the last drive? Did the coaching staff ever address that in interviews?

Let's just be happy it came off and then we went off the way we did. I don't think this would be drama today If not. As well as a few more good pick up's' on NSD

In BK's post game news conference that question was asked and he said that EG going in on that last drive was the plan all along. The helmet coming off made it happen a play earlier than planned, but yes, EG was going to be in on that drive.

I don't see why he would've done this if he was going to be the starter. Maybe BK hinted that Malik was going to be the starter so Golson said "screw this, I'm graduating in a month any way"? It just doesn't seem likely a starting quarterback would transfer, especially a team like this.

Damn I'm late to the party. Honestly this sucks. Best of luck EG, I'll always remember the 2012 season.

Everett's gotta do what he's gotta do. MZ is a gamer. No doubt. Main thing that rubs me the wrong way is that I believe EG had no intent on staying at ND. Taking reps away from the other 2 all spring.

I liked EG but last year he suffered big time after turnovers. Excited to see the new chapter of the offense. I wonder if kizer will actually get any game time?

Would have loved for EG to stay, but he has to make the decision that he feels is best for him. My guess is he felt he probably wasn't going to win the starting job.

MZ has one thing EG didn't. He has the mental makeup not to let BK get in his head. MZ wants to learn and understands it's what is said, not how it's said. I think he's more of a leader as well.

I think we'll be in good hands, but wish EG would have stayed.

This will hurt. EG will graduate and did provide lots of excitement during his time. Wish him the best, and now MZ best step up and seize the opportunity. I believe this definitely affects the Irish season, especially early. In my mind EG would have started.

I said this a while ago and was criticized. Saying it again.... EG had to make the best call for his NFL future. Going to a big time school were he will be the unquestioned #1 is his best option. He has an ND degree. He would likely split time with MZ this year in some fashion. IMO he's doing the right thing for his career. Thought he'd end up at LSU though. The ol ball coach could make him a star. Or it could turn out bad. Either way, he's going for broke and rolling the dice on what he believes is the best chance at an NFL career. I wish him luck and thank him for all he's done for ND. GO MZ

And who thinks we'll start hearing Wimbush talk this year lol.

I hate to see this guy go, he's the better QB. Too much was ask of him last year when the defense fell apart-I think that burned him (taking all the blame from people on the outside that don't know what's going on). Good luck 'E' and I hope we don't have to play you next year. This was the better option at the QB position. Now I change my thoughts on the record next year-I just added 2 more losses-9-3. Kelly who you all know I think is a top 5 coach in America could have done better on this one.

Agreed. Let them load the box and our line will bulldoze most lines until BK let's MZ go deep. we have speed at WR and will burn them over the top if they bring the Ss in. toss in our shiny new TE an I think MZ will be just fine.

I'm not at all saying we are better off now. I do think we will be better off in the long run. This will let Sanford and BK concentrate on one gameplan, and one QB. Fuller and Brown will catch some nice long balls. AC and CJ will burn some folks at the Z, and Jones will kill it everywhere by mid season. Pass me the Green Kool Aid

Golson isn't an NFL QB at this point. Too much like a lawn chair....

Frankly, I'm glad he decided to put an egg in his shoe an beat it. He torpedoed the 2013 season due to bad decisions and in 2014 he basically gave up against USC. That was hands down the worst QB performance I've seen from an ND QB since 2007. Add to that the fact that kids who were getting it done in the classroom but struggled on the field got benched while he struggled with both and didn't and it makes for bad team chemistry. With all that in mind I'm finding it hard to be upset about this.
