Not sure if it was an interview with Kelly or some sort of film breakdown article, but I read somewhere that Koyack was Golson's 4th read on the play.

A lot of people were saying how Golson nearly missed him and was late throwing it to him. 4th and 11 with the pocket collapsing...pretty understandable to be a little late seeing your 4th option get open.

This says it all. Most QB's don't have the patience/cool to find a forth option while under any kind of pressure, unless it's a check down to avoid trouble.

On a more important note, this kid has come along way and it makes for a story about resolve that I will be telling my children about someday. This isn't just a story about football in my eyes, but a story about making up for one's mistakes and having the ability to never give up and come full-circle. Good for you young man...good for you!

Go Irish!!!

If you watch the slow motion replay, look at Everett's eyes. They were so intense and full of confidence. He was completely cool under pressure. That's the kind of player he is, and that's what winners do.

There's a picture in the latest Sports Illustrated showing him right before he launches that pass. It's fairly close-up, so you get a good look at his face right at that exact moment.

One Foot Down is probably where you read that he was Golson's fourth read. I don't dispute that he was, but neither does One Foot Down detail the read progression on the play, so I am left to wonder if that is just an assumption, or some kind of in-depth knowledge. Regardless......... other QBs(Jimmy Clausen) seem(ed) to always throw the ball on time, and they were not always throwing to their first or second, or even third, read.

Pretty sure it was Mayock that said it was his fourth, during the broadcast.

When your first, second, and third options are Tate, Floyd, and Rudolph, you can just close your eyes and wing it in their direction.

Seriously though, I agree EG isn't playing at the flawless level that Clausen was in 2009, but I don't think that there is anything to complain about on that 4th and 11 play.

I haven't really studied the play, but it looks like his first two options are Fuller and Carlisle who are in the center-right part of the field. When those two weren't open, he looked to his left where Robinson was at 1st down marker and Koyack was in back of the end zone, but I don't think he could see over the left side of the line from where he was. Right when he rolled left he fired it. If he's 6'3" or taller, he probably sees Koyack a second sooner, but it's hard to find anything to complain about with that play.

Anybody watch the Golson player interview on Irish Illustrated Vimeo? I knew I had heard/read that he was offered a scholarship to play football/basketball at UNC and that he liked basketball but wow you can really tell he loves basketball I mean it really comes across just in his body language and the look on his face. Seeing the way he talked about it i'm kinda surprised he didn't go the basketball route. Glad he didn't!

Posted this after the Purdue game, but we only go as far as Everett.

If he brings the A game, we win next week. If not, we're screwed.

Ride or die with Everett for the next 1.5 seasons.

I agree. It's scary though and doesn't bode well for ND's chances with the over-under for Golson generated turnovers per game sits at 3/game .... yikes!

So once again we are in the same situation with Golson as we were with Rees last year. This is not what I expected.

Agreed. Although Everett sh!tting the bed is still better than most of Rees' games. And I loved Rees. Case in point yesterday during our final TD drive when EG took off for 10 yards on a 3rd and 8. Even on his worst day he brings that element to the offense which is just huge.

Agreed. I think another way to combat his fumble-itis would be to get out-of-bounds/slide/give himself up. He just does not take hits very well along with poor care of the football. Golson is simply spectacular, but these turnovers will catch up and cost us eventually. I really think that if he just takes what is given and reduces the amount of hits he takes that it will mask this problem enough for it to be a non factor.

With the hits that Golson has been taking in the pocket with his mobilty, I suspect Rees would be on the injured list. Rees was tough but he'd be taking a hell of a lot more hits this year than Golson has.

Certainly but at some point spotting a team points with early TOs or TOs in key points of the game will cost us. And it is now three games in a row where they have made games much closer than they ended to be or should have been. I am having a hard time not being disappointed about that. We should have easily handled UNC even with the athletes they have, which are quality.

My biggest gripe about Kelly's ND teams are the lethargic 1st quarters. It's almost like he uses the 1st quarter to figure out what the defense is doing and then goes after it or so I hope.

Maybe this is all just a ploy to lull FSU to sleep so they will totally underestimate ND. Seriously though, the slow starts concern me. The atmosphere at the FSU game is going to be sick. We will need to jump out of the gate quickly to shut the slimy-hole fans up. Golson will have to play a clean game like he did against Oklahoma two years ago.

Have you watched the beginning of any FSU games this year?

Maybe BK's schematic advantage doesn't kick in until the 2nd quarter.

I was watching some replays today. It seemed like Golson under threw the ball a descent amount of times.

Yup. Under threw or was late on getting the throw off quite a few times. Good thing is is that those are both correctable mistakes. Hopefully he gets it figured out.

He did. Not sure what was up with that, but he did.

I was at the game. I think the fumble and more importantly the interception made him a little gun shy and he was trying to fit the ball in where it wouldn't be intercepted. I would like to see BK call a few short drag routes across the middle early in the game to get him a few completions under his belt and let him feel a little more comfortable.

Undefeated with a potent offense? I don't remember being 6 - 0 last year?

Soooo. Rees did not have a defense to protect him like Golson had in 2012 and the first five games of 2014. Fedora absolutely exposed Van Gorder last night with tempo and play design. So with Golson having horrible fumble issues running it's basically worse than a Rees INT because they are occurring in bad field position versus basically a bad punt. Not only giving great field position to our opponents but he is making horrible decisions passing. We will absolutely start losing with the TOs and if VanGorder does not come correct on Saturday.

Rees TOs took points off the board for us. Golson's puts them on the board for opponent. I guess one's worse?

Exactly. One is not worse than the other as far as points go. TOs are killers. Plus when Golson fumbles running, it's much worse because of field position.
