I feel very strongly that Everett is the guy. Allow him to take his lumps but do not waver. A young quarterback's psyche is fragile and for BK to play merry-go-round with the lad would be unfair, possibly detrimental, to his development.

Tommy: ship sailed
Andrew: Package deals, like many of you have eluded to before
Gunner: "Reserve a year of eligibility" ahem, red shirt.

The quarterback is a different breed of person and must possess certain qualities to succeed. Everett is so impressive off the field with his personality, demeanor, musical talents and athleticism in other sport(s), that this deepens my belief that he is our guy.

ND needs a special guy behind (directly, or in the shotgun) center to resurrect our beloved program. Everett is it. Do the right this BK!

To do what roethlisberger does and hold the ball for an eternity looking for a pass. I would think the instructions/ what BK hopes would be look for a pass- if nothing is there, see if you can run, if not throw it away. Roethlisberger never really looks to run from the pocket- he can't really- and rarely throws the ball away until pressured heavily (and he is hit 2-3 times).

yes, but that is what I like about Golson, he is a pass first QB who can run. However, I would much rather him run and pick up a few yards than throw it away. If you tell a QB to be scared of injury, then it is more likely to happen. Hendrix and Kiel lower their shoulder when they run, but Golson doesnt, he wont take those hits. I am pretty confident that if Golson scrambles he would not take a LB head on and lower his shoulder. But if you watch his highlight videos, even when he is scrambling from pressure, he is looking down field and most of the time he ends up throwing it down field. As athletic as Golson is and for how long his video is, he rarely ran up field... That says something to me, he isnt scared to throw it like Texas QB commit Swoopes is.

Sampson on II is hearing that Golson has learned what is needed in order to grow into a starting QB. He has put in extra time in the film room and has risen his grades in the classroom over the summer.

Coaches can't work with them right now can they? So how do they go about knowing if he really has made big strides watching film?

Do they have team managers or GA's sit in and work with them on things that maybe BK or Martin say to? I have always been curious about this.

I had a random (semi-)work related encounter with someone with a good contact in the program last week. I was told the players believe the decision has been made by Kelly that it is Golson's job, or at least his to lose. I know how I usually regard the "I heard it from a guy who says he knows a guy" thing, so I didn't think it was worth bringing here. But I am very confident that the person I spoke to has a good source. So I thought in conjunction with this latest bit of speculation, this might be a good time to share what I heard.

So now I know a guy who knows a guy that that knows evgo is taking snaps with the big boys come Friday!

Going around. I heard it too. Last spring was kind of a smoke screen. Lot of things needed to work themselves out AL, TS, and the bad karma from an old offensive coordinator. Someone, or more than one, rose to the challenge.

It's okay Tom. In the 7 on 7's he did so well every source is zeroed in on him. You're good.

Golson is just another dimension to this offense. He has something Rees and Hendrix don't have and that is speed and the ability to throw on the run. Hendrix is quick but not Golson quick. I can't wait to see Golson play, every year a QB in the college football world comes out of nowhere to being talked about every Saturday morning on College Gameday. I think Golson could be that QB this year.

Worst phrase in football: "another wrinkle."

But yeah, Golson is going to light it up.

He also has a great arm, can see more than one receiver at a time, and can hit receivers where that can make plays after the catch.

A comment or two:

1). Coach REALLY needs the first two games this year, given the murder of the rest of the schedule. This puts a lot more pressure on him in picking who guides the team, and how they do it in those games. How will he roll the dice? I'm ignorant compared to him, but just as a guess, I'd go with "talent" but conservatively played.

2). Tommy Rees disappointed me last season not in the wholesale way that people like to criticize him, but in that I thought that his greatest strength [unshakability] deserted him as the season and turnovers and criticism wore on. I in the end believed that he'd lost the job long before Spring or the arrest.

3). Andrew Hendricks has big talent. But he makes me REALLY nervous. I believe that Andrew is a "thinker" far too long into a football play. That "great" spring TD pass actually didn't impress me much, like it apparently did everybody else. I thought that Andrew "analyzed" it a count too long, and only his tremendous arm strength [and slow safety coverage] allowed the play to go. As we waltzed into the endzone on that one, my imagination saw a USC safety going the other way for 80 yards --- hopefully just a bad dream.

3). Everett was different. He seemed to flub around a bit too, but it wasn't INDECISIVE. He was the only one [Gunner can't count in this yet, though I believe he "has" it too] who looked like the turned-on animal-function-in-motion guy who can get things done without shake. He drives me nuts in that he can't figure out certain reads, but he seems NOT to then make an actual mistake while misreading.

All this is on too little data, but Everett seems the least risk [surprising "analysis", no?] for those two crucial starting must wins, and I'm guessing that Kelly will install a somewhat conservative offensive game plan, gradually expanding over the flow of the games --- and hope that Diaco will protect the house until the O gets there.

Yep, I think 3) and, um, 3) are right on. I fear that Hendrix has a little too much Dayne Crist in him ... great athlete, smart guy, but struggles with decisiveness. Golson looked pretty loose out there, which I liked.

When talkin 'bout my @ss, too!

Seriously, the fourth time I looked at Golson's film, did you see some of the pump fakes he had. There are quarterbacks that cannot achieve that kind of arm velocity on a throw!

EDIT: The first part of my comment is about worst phrase in football, not EG. I'm just sayin'.
