There is a podcast on II ( I don't have access) that apparently is saying Golson is turning the 7 on 7 drills into "The Golson Show", particularly hitting Chris Brown on the deep routes.

This makes me happy. All in rhythm now:

"Go Golson!" "Go Golson!" "Go Golson!" "Go Golson!"

Go Golson, and go Chris Brown. That kid is going to be really fun to watch.

I would also go with Golson simply because he has the highest ceiling. He gives ND's QB position big-play ability that it does not currently have. ND needs a play-maker more than ever now that ND does not have a Michael Floyd type WR. Golson also presents more of a read option threat, which make the offense run much smoother.

Everyone is saying Everett is killing it in 7 on 7's and is a different player this summer. Everett like to joke around and have fun at practice. He is every loose as some of you already know. Everett problem is reading coverage and picking things up. They don't really blitz on 7 on 7. Part of playing QB is understanding the play and coverage. Tommy gets it Everett is starting too. Its Everett's job to lose and I don't think anyone here think differently. But he has to go win it this fall camp. Its not going to be handed to him because everyone is sick of hearing about Tommy. Not many college coaches just through a guy to the curb who have started like what 17 of last 18 i think. Everett's got to go win the job. Regardless i believe we will use 2 QB's this season and partially in the Navy game. Its time for Everett to step up and I believe he realizes that. I don't want to see checks at the line i am so sick of seeing it. This isn't the NFL is a spread offense. Run what is called get up there quickly and have the next play. Ever watch Oregon? Darron Thomas rarely checks and he just runs what is called. I wish we were that offense where its like where it comes every 17 seconds good luck trying to stop us. I thought that's what BK was going to bring. Play to your QB strengths. Its year 3 and we still havent figured out the QB situation thats what bothers me. Name a dude and lets go. I know it doesn't sound easy. But i believe BK made up his mind after the USC game last year of who he wants to be. The staff wants Everett to start but he needs to earn it.

TP seems to think that's what we'll see this season, and I really hope he's right. We've got the QB, RBs, OL, and TEs for it. Such spread 'n shred plays aren't very expensive to install. Just practice the sh!t out of 'em and run the damn ball 40+ times a game.

Nobody is handing the job to Golson--he has been taking it !

He is exactly what this offense needs, and only the chromosome challenged could be looking to Rees for another year of frustration & mediocrity.

Two of our softer games to get the bugs out and then we see what we have in game 3 & 4- Color me very excited to see an ND offense thats is lively to the point of explosive & is complimented by a defense that can actually play defense.

So far so good---things in allignment---fingers crossed no unforced setbacks!

Golson has the highest ceiling between him, Hendrix and Rees....

If you look at all four QB's though.... I think we all know who has the highest ceiling....

This is an understated problem with TR as a qb. We have the slowest spread offense in the country.

How did that video game that they bought the qb's work out? Are they still using it? Is it making a difference?

No, Wooly, I am not getting it, who do you like?

Let me first say I am very high on Golson and I want him to be the starting qb but I also want him to know the "science of qb" if he learns this he could truly be a great college qb. He seems like a great leader, explosive playmaker and have a huge arm. If we need to I do not see a problem of simplifying the offense. Kelly did not give him many reps of running our offense but he was a scout team qb last year. He will become much more comfortable as he gets more reps with the first team.

Enough with this splitting of reps bull. What I think our qb situation needs is a clear starter. Our qbs look unprepared next to other schools because other schools have a clear cut #1, most of the time, who gets the majority of attention and repetitions. One way to learn how to read a defense is to do it again. And again. Watching on the sideline is not nearly as effective as performing it yourself.

When I watch that highlight, I just can't comprehend how he won't get a majority of the playing time this year. My favorite thing he does, is how well he manipulates the safetys. Also how smooth his pump fakes are.

The throw at 1:30 and 2:07 just end the QB debate for me right there. Gunner Kiel can probably make that throw, but he sure as hell can't do that run.

I agree with everything GBDomer said times a million. I've made some ranty posts to that effect in the past. It's just so damn true and I think it's going to happen.

I'm not sure if you were trying to make these two points in tandem or not, but if I'm coaching I'd rather the play the more talented player that may be a little behind in the mental part of the game. If that means limiting the checks and simplifying the presnap stuff, its well worth it to me. If playing Golson means telling him "this is your primary read, this is your one check-down, and if that isn't there then run as far as you can without getting tackled," I'll take that. The more he plays the more he will pick everything else up. For now, it seems like he can make the throws he needs to and his athletic ability will allow him to make plays when things break down, whether with his feet or buying time and exploiting busted coverage.

In my mind, there is no good reason not to start Golson. I've never really questioned Kelly to this point, but if Everett doesn't start I will definitely feel that BK has made a mistake.

Just... Wow. I never get tired of that. Kid makes so many ridiculous plays on a consistent basis. Granted I know it's high school and a highlight tape, but the throws against his body, the accuracy, the poise in the pocket and the ability to bust out and scramble, the arm strength... He's got it all. I hope he has a grasp on it all because the tools are just waiting to be used.

What a new dimension it would add to the offense. Playmakers galore putting pressure on the defense instead of vice versa. THAT'S how you win 10 games against this schedule.

I just hope it's his time for a breakout. It would make a huge difference in the course of the season.

Aside from all that, the major problem Golson has is holding on to the damn ball. We heard about it all last year, we heard about it in the spring, and then the spring game comes and he plays phenomenally, but he still had a problem with just holding onto the ball. And not just with contact...I'm talking about the center exchange and hand-offs as well. All this Golson love (and believe me, I'm driving the Golson bus), will quickly turn to anger when he starts putting the ball on the floor b/c of poor attention to detail.

So all this 7 on 7 stuff is fantastic, but it means nothing if we're wasting downs cause he can't get the ball from Cave, or because he's giving the ball to the other team by just dropping it.

If he can protect the ball, learn the offense (and maybe that means BK dumbing it down, not sure) and learn to be a mature leader, we're golden...

A lot of "if's" in there, but I'm honestly not worried about him protecting the ball. Can it really get any worse than last year's starter turning it over? EG will be just fine once he wins the job and settles in, IMO.

Definitely the key to making it all come together for EG. All the other stuff should take caree of itself (hopefully).

Was it me, or did he hold the pig out away from his body, numerous times in the video? Seemed to work fine in high school. But I imagine it is one of those things he needed to change in college. Is that the origin of the rap about him losing the handle?

The thing I just cannot wrap my head around is how fast he looks, and the fact that he doesn't have the fastest 40 time among the quarterbacks. It wasn't like that competition looked poor and slow. Some film you see, the competion is so bad you learn nothing. This was some cacalacky shiit kray!

HE does hold the ball out too much, that won't work with the big boys.

I like that he keeps his eyes down field, seems to see the field better which helps everyone. We've got some talent out there if they can get the ball. There were a lot of open receivers that didn't get the ball last year.

Hey I was just thinking, Golson to Brown, that would be the Cackalacky connection, wouldn't it.

Brown with his speed and leaping ability, would be a favorite for a guy like Everett.
