Just looked it up, and he's 70th right now in the country in punting average. I'm surprised he's on the list.

Remember those years of kicker unreliability? What a nightmare. Not knowing if the extra point was going to be made, certain most FGs weren't.

Hope that is fixed. I do remember. We have some good kicking prospects.

From ISD today after practice:

Kyle Brindza’s performance last weekend was no fluke. He kicked about six field goal today and made five. He made from 20, 25, 32, 42, and 50. He missed a 44-yarder from the right hash. The 50-yarder could have been good from 65 (I swear I’m not exaggerating). The ball literally sounds like a shotgun blast when he hits his foot with it. This is going to be a huge advantage for the Irish offense to have a kid who can make 50-yarders look like chip shots. The ability to points on the board late in a half or game is increased tremendously with a leg like Brindza’s.

Yes please.

Reps bump

"Kyle Brindza was a major support. He helped me get through it and made it feel like Notre Dame was a special place," Yoon said. "He made it feel like at Notre Dame you're not just a kicker, you part of the family. I really feel that."

Bravo Kyle!

Is it bad that my first thought when seeing this thread bumped is "Oh shit, Brindza punched a cop, we've got no kicker"?

Sorry for the bump but I don't understand this tweet...

Doesn't he have to be take at least one class to be enrolled at the school during the season?

If Kyle would have gone to a SEC school he could have tweeted this after his last high school test.

Notre Dame: Kyle Brindza not your typical #CollegeKicker | CSN Chicago

"If you think you can drive the ball right down the pipe, you can do it," Brindza said. "If you believe you can strike out three guys in the ninth inning, you can do it. You just gotta be able to understand that it's muscle memory.

"You've done it a thousand times, why can't you do it right now and that's how it is for me."

Hoping to see that consistency this year.

In the Rice post game thread some twit posted "What's so special about Brindza?"

Besides he owns a page full of ND kicking records and is among the leaders in most categories?

Kyle Brindza Bio - UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site

Besides his NCAA record 5 FGs in a bowl game.

Besides being a verbal commit to Michigan in the Spring of '10? (And the fools want an early signing period!)

He was born with a club foot and had 7 or 8 surgeries by the 6th grade.

You can read about it here:

Overcoming the Odds - UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site

He had an aunt that use to post on IE but one of those "fans" that get his jollies by trashing 18 year old athletes like they were $25 million a year pros ran her off. I used to swap PMs with her but she told me she and his mother couldn't understand the vitriol from people calling themselves ND fans. They understood critique but recognized that those that resorted to trash comments demonstrated their lack of comprehension of kicking fundamentals.

Trash talkers, think they are showing their knowledge, but what they are really showing is a mood disorder, personality problem, character issue, instead of any comprehension of football, whatsoever. I am getting pretty tired of it. Stupidity I can deal with, poison, not so much! Reps BGIF!

His sole FG moved him into a tie with John Carney for Most Career ND FGs at an identical 51 FGs in 69 Attempts. Carney did it in 3 seasons. Kyle is in his 4th.

The two misses due to the muffed snaps dropped him back into a tie with Carney for the ND Best Career Percentage FG at .739.

He remains 4th in Most Career Points By Kicking but now trails Nick Setta by only 4 points.

Very nice piece. Away from Brindza, look at our sh!t field last year versus BYU, about the 2:40 mark. I'm so pumped to see that turf this year.

Brindza Sets Career FG Record

Brindza Sets Career FG Record

His 2 FGs against FSU set a new ND career FG record at 53 surpassing John Carney's 51.

His 53 of 71 FGs, .746, increases his lead as the Highest Percentage Kicker in ND History.

He is 22 of 24 in game-winning, game-tying, overtime or 4th-quarter lead-extending FGs.

He connected on all 3 of XPs at FSU. His 77 consecutive XPs are the 3rd-longest streak in school history behind Nick Setta, 92, and Craig Hentrich, 136.

The 9 points he scored against FSU gave him 253 Career Points Scored and moved him into 2nd Place ahead of Dave Reeve. He trails Craig Hentrich by 41 points for the All-Time Lead.

He also dropped 2 of 3 punts inside the 20 including 1 at the 7 yard line late in the game.

He definitely played well and was a large part of the team's success last night.
