This 247 article discusses the top 10 recruits of 2011 and whether they've lived up to the hype thus far.
Jason Sapp provides the commentary for Lynch. Of particular interest to me is his insistence that Lynch is the #2 behind EJ.
Isn't EJ a SDE? Shouldn't Lynch be the #2 WDE behind KLM?

Watch the interview right above your post. Aaron specifically says he's behind Ethan, with KLM and Tuitt manning the other end.
there's very little difference between SDE and WDE in Diaco's 3-4.
Exactly. If we need to asign positions, Ian's history playing next to Ian Williams in the 4-3 means he's more experienced on the inside, and would ideally fit that gap. Ultimately, they are interchangable, and the only reason value is assigned is for the depth chart.
I think I discovered the source of my confusion.
In Diaco's 3-4, the WDE moves to a 3-tech on passing downs so the Cat can come down and play a 5-tech (KLM, Tuitt, etc.) Conversely, the SDE rarely slides inside, so he's always attacking the edge.
Lynch, who would be a pass-rushing WDE in a 4-3, is a SDE in a 3-4 so that he's always on the edge. At least I hope that's how it works.
The only other possibility I can see is that the Dog frequently plays on the line, thereby pushing the SDE inside, which would mean there's very little difference between SDE and WDE in Diaco's 3-4. I don't think that's the case, but I'm clearly not coming from a position of knowledge here.
I have a hard time believing there's that little difference between the DE positions in Diaco's scheme. That'd be like saying the Dog and Cat OLB positions are completely interchangeable.
The offense is running at the SDE more often, the SDE is frequently dealing with a TE + OT double team, but the SDE is also on the edge more frequently, putting him in a better position to pass rush (maybe?)
I have to believe that the staff will put Lynch in the best possible position to get after the QB when necessary, but the responsibilities of a 3-4 DE strike me as almost antithetical to pass-rushing. Maybe I'm just over-thinking this...
It offers versatility, meaning on passing downs we can obviously let Lynch go get the QB.
When our starters are out there, and we are attempting to confuse the defense, the positions are the same, because you don't know where the fourth is coming from.
Of course they are labeled differently, but it's up to Diaco's call as to who is doing what. I said before, that ideally, Ethan will be strong side because of his experience kicked down in the 4-3, but ultimately, they are completely interchangeable in the 3-4.
But some positions on the DL are easier to pass rush from than others, no? That's why we'll try to keep Lynch on the edge as much as possible; at least I hope that's what we'll do.
This is understand. Diaco can dial up pressure from either the Dog or the Cat very easily from an odd-front look. However, in our even-front looks, is Lynch on the edge or the interior? Does the Dog ever play with his hand on the ground? Does it really matter? These are the questions I'm trying to answer.
Unless the Dog OLB frequently puts his hand down, EJ should almost always be on the edge, no? As I understand it, it's usually the Cat putting his hand down in our even-front looks, which moves KLM/Tuitt inside.
Missed it. Thanks though.
@19lynch19 I'll bet ur wishing you'd have stayed at home with FSU or UF right now don't u? Have fun watching bowl games from ur couch. Ha!

I could be wrong, but this strikes me as a very bad sign that Aaron is retweeting these haters. Sounds like he's having doubts.
Forget our 2012 verbals. We may lose the best player from 2011 if we don't get our sh!t together fast.
This is a very common thing actually. From pros to comedians to cfb players, a lot of people retweet what haters write so that others will see the garbage they are typing and lash back at them. Aaron can't really say anything back to these guys so retweet it and have some angry ND fans tweet at them.
I have no concern about Aaron having doubts.
