I didn't appreciate Reesus enough when he was our QB. Always like him, but took him for granted. I'm really happy he's here now. I think he's a good soldier (taking BK and Chip's orders), but I'd bet he had a lot to do with the change at QB. The improvement in Book from early last year, to LSU, was very clear. His readiness after three games this year was incredible. IMO, Reesus deserves most of that credit. It will be interesting to see if he validates that with the development of PJ. I'm sure he worked his ass off with BW too, it's just very hard to teach accuracy.

Hope he continues to kill it. I'd love to see him an Irish OC one day. Bet he gets a little bump in title in the off season.

Would we have won the title in 2012 if we had Tommy’s brain and poise with all the physical traits of a 4/5 star QB? Fun to think about.
No. QB play wasn't the reason we got bent over.

Yeah, I mean, I saw the game too. Golson didn't play horribly, considering we had nearly zero run game. He made some decent connects with Daniels, just not frequently enough (which is not all on him). However, he was definitely unsettled in critical moments early in the game when we needed momentum. As a result, the defense was on the field so often, and we all saw how they did with missed tackles, Lacy, and their open receivers. Man, thinking back, we are fortunate to have the Slippery Fox, because Devonte Neal only hurt our offense on SP teams.

I always knew we were going to have to worry about losing Tommy to the NFL, I just didn't think it would be as a player!

#NotreDame QB coach Tommy Rees will be throwing to Miles Boykin, Corey Holmes, Alizè Mack and Nic Weishar at Notre Dame's Pro Day on Wednesday. pic.twitter.com/3vfsResVIn
— Matt Freeman (@mattfreemanISD) March 19, 2019

Surprisingly an NFL team showing interest wouldn’t be completely crazy. JP Losman, former first round pick of the Bills, is on the staff at Clemson and was throwing to their players during their pro day. Apparently he was approached by at least one team asking him if he’d interested in coming back.

I think a huge difference is that Losman had NFL-caliber arm strength. Sadly, Tommy never did.

Are we sure it's because an NFL team wants to see Tommy throw?

I would almost guarantee that he’s throwing because he’s the best option available and has next to no chance for a professional bid

That's what I thought and why I asked the question. Southside made it sound like there was interest.

Corey Holmes? Thought he was going to be a grad transfer. Are the XFL teams coming to Pro Day?

He did grad transfer, twice lol.

ND generally allows guys to come back for pro days, even if they left the program early, to help them with exposure. Holmes left on good terms, so I'm sure ND had no problem sending him an invite.

So did Malik

I think it's cool that they allow former players to come back and workout whether it's a "peaceful" departure or a little more drama-fueled, like Zaire. Some marriages between an 18 year old kid and a college program just don't end happily, and it's not as simple as pointing the finger at one or two people or instances. But why not welcome him back and give him one more chance to impress. No harm no foul.

Haha I meant it as a joke but I didn't want to put the whole thing in italics. I mean I wouldn't be surprised to hear a team wanted to talk to him after it, but I think he knows his future has a much clearer and more lucrative path as a coach right now than taking another chance at playing.

As for Kizer not throwing instead, I wonder if there is some rule from either the NFL or NCAA that doesn't allow active players to participate in pro days. Thinking about it, I can't really remember hearing about any guys going back to throw, so it might be a rule.

I could've sworn Jimmy came back one year to throw

I think you're right. Maybe it was while he wasn't under contract? I don't know for sure, but I suspect NFL contracts prohibit players under contract from participating in any non-team related organized workouts.

I think it's cool that he's throwing, but I have no idea why ND wouldn't want Clausen to come back every year if he was willing.

Zaire was up front and classy with his exit. He didn't lead the coaching staff on like Golson did, planning a transfer and not planning to tell them. The coaches didn't find out about Golson's transfer until the players let the cat out of the bag.

This isn't the first time Tommy has thrown at Pro Day. Didn't he do it last year? I would expect as long as he's on the coaching staff, and still in good shape, that he'll throw to our players on Pro Day. That is, of course, unless we have a QB planning to get drafted that year and wants to work out for the scouts.

Is there a rule against Ian Book throwing to these guys?

Should we expect Kevin Stepherson at the pro day next year?

Especially when folks think a late 20 year olds arm isn't stronger and more accurate than a 19 year old's arm.

There actually is. As I understand it, if he were to participate and throw to the receivers it would count as one of his 15 spring practices. So considering he can still use as many reps as he can get, that wasn't something BK was willing to sacrifice especially when we have Tommy just hanging around anyway.

Appreciated. I was unaware of the 15 practices rule.
