Thank You, Tommy. You gave us everything you had to give. Our team would have been absolutely screwed without what you did for four years. Even the great coach couldn't have put it together without a smart QB to get us through.

Blessings. Hope that there's a coaching chance waiting for you somewhere; you of all people certainly deserve it.

We don't win 9 games this year with Hendrix. We don't win 12 last year and appear in the title game without Tommy cleaning up for EG.

The latter is point enough to be great, IMO.

This. I respect Hendrix, but we don't even go bowling this season if he was our QB. We lose to USC, probably Purdue, Michigan State, Arizona State, Navy, and probably BYU. We could have been 2-10, probably no better than 3-9. We couldn't rely on the defense this season like we did last season, this was not a great team. I hope we come back strong next season, and I thank Tommy for his contributions to the team. Tommy is also responsible for 2 of our last 3 bowl wins.

Put the Notre Dame Man back in the thread title.

A QB with a shitty arm, no mobility, and no athleticism puts up a 23-8 record, finishes Top 3 in every major career passing category, plays a critical role in helping his team to a national championship berth... and that is somehow not a great accomplishment?

Wasn't the "Notre Dame Man??" a totally separate thread?

Certainly a double-edged sword. For me, the MVP in 2013. Without him, we would have had a miserable year. He gave his best and it usually worked, with some notable exceptions. Wish him the best.

For nearly 100-years, Notre Dame was an option, or a flat-out super run heavy team.

Tommy just happened to come around for the 2010-2013 seasons when everybody and their mother throws for 3000 yards a season. It's just like the quarterbacks in the NFL. They aren't necessarily better than Marino, Montana, or Elway, just because they're putting up ridiculous video game type numbers.

If you've actually watched Tommy for the last four years and can call him "great", then more power to you. But numbers aren't everything, especially with the way the game is played today.
I swear. Did you even look up his stats before you posted? He threw the ball 600 less times than Quinn. If he would thrown the ball the 600 more times he would have had roughly 2400 more yards. He would be top 100 all time for any team. He threw the ball twice as many times as Montana and has nearly twice as many yards.
Is he a hall of fame quarterback? No
Is he a very solid starter? Yes
Did he have a Great Career regardless of the coach or offense? Yes
And how else do we measure greatness on the college level? Stats, wins ....I do not know any more ways to judge a quarterback?

Probably would have had 25 more interceptions too.

Thanks for giving it your all Tommy, even if your all was mediocre.

For a guy slightly more athletic than Mr. Burns you had a pretty good career.

ND coach Brian Kelly on senior QB Tommy Rees: “He’s got a bright future as a graduate assistant for Brian Kelly anytime.” I believe this would be a great chance for Tommy and also be good and very helpful with the reintegrating of EG!

Wasn't the "Notre Dame Man??" a totally separate thread?

The subject originated here. The OP of the other thread created it to take a poll. His poll was a mandate in favor. The title here was changed to agree with the poll results. Then one gutless individual changed the title back anonymously. That individual obviously is not an ND man.

I wonder how many players would win a poll of whether or not they are a Notre dame man? My guess would be most. The hall of fame is not a museum of sympathy and 9th place ribbons folks.

Hadn't seen this posted yet. Brian Kelly in his postgame interview:

“I’m a Tommy Rees fan for life,” Kelly said. “He’s gonna go keep chasing that football dream. He’s gonna play in the East-West Shrine Game, and he’ll keep trying to play the game as long as he can. But I told him he’s got a bright future as a graduate assistant for Brian Kelly any time.”

I think Tommy will end up making a terrific coach if he decides to take that path.

Would be big for his coaching résumé to be on a practice squad for a year or two. Honestly, he's not any worse than McGloin.

Could, without a doubt, be a 3rd or potentially 2nd stringer for a few years.
Jim Sorgi made a hell of a living behind Manning in Indy.
Tommy may not have the physical gifts to start or be a 2nd string on a team with a questionable starter, but he has a great football IQ and could be an asset.

I saw him out tonight in Chicago. His psuedo-beard makes him look tough.

I really like Tommy's intestinal fortitude and game brain but let me put this in perspective, Tommy, the most reviled ND QB (to play more than half a game) since walk on Dillingham MIGHT be getting a paycheck while Brady and Jimmy aren't?

He must have had a truly remarkable post season training camp.
