I really hate to bring this back up, but...

A poster on ISD just started a thread that Alice tweeted "intervention". I looked at her timeline and its already deleted, but where there's smoke...

That could mean anything, especially since it's deleted. I'm going to pull for the players on the field in Notre Dame uniforms. Aaron's decision was a personal decision for him and there's probably a lot we don't know. I hope he ends up happy and successful.

Can someone explain all the love for "mamma lynch"? Is it just because she has posted here on occasion? Seems a bit OTT.

Pete Sampson also posted a poll seeing what the reaction be to inviting Lynch back. Kind of an odd question to just post out there. I'm all for taking him back, as some of you who wouldn't want him back are forgetting we havent won a national championship since 1988. You don't turn down future 1st round picks on principle alone. A team vote also wouldn't be the worst thing.

She's a very nice lady and positive influence on Aaron... but the real reason is because she came on ND and posted here a bunch. So people got familiar with her.

Yawn. Wake me up September 1st and I'll check the roster then.

This team has more drama than Season 1 of the Jersey Shore. Sick of it.

I'd absolutely take him back if he wanted to come and the team wanted him there, but no way I'm getting my hopes up on this one again.

If her post is related to him leaving ND... can't blame her for trying to change his mind once again. Unless there is some info we are missing... his decision may go down as one of the dumbest move of all time. No wonder his mom would try to explain to him why he is making a dumbass move.

BK would (and should) take him back in a second. You don't say no to a kid like AL. You just tell him that going forward, if he changes his mind again, you will only release him to transfer to the Buffalo Bulls.

If the staff want him back, and he's willing to come back having taken a big forward step in growing up and getting adult priorities, then the decision passes its first hurdle.

If the team then is brought in on this and they are accepting of him back into the brotherhood, then it passes its second hurdle.

The "pragmatics of the situation" then are: a great player comes onto the team knowing that he has to prove something to everyone that has counted on him [Mike Floyd?]. The morality of the situation is then that we are in the duty in this life of trying to help people in need.

At this point: all "boxes are checked" and he gets his locker back, but not [yet] his starting position.

Having said all that, I feel that all of us are indulging in a fantasy novel plot.

Anyone here follow lacrosse enough to know who Shamel Bratton is? Maybe one of the most physically gifted midfielders of all time... #1 recruit... team captain of Virginia last year... 4x All-American. Kid was absolutely electric. Got major minutes on the most talented team in the country the minute he stepped on campus at Virginia and put up huge numbers every single game. Think Cierre Wood with insane stick skills. Shamel was a dominant football and basketball player... and even better at lacrosse. Shamel was so good that he got a feature on ESPN.... as a junior in high school.

His senior year (while he was captain, mind you) the Virginia team kicked their most talented player (and CAPTAIN) off the team. I had never seen something like this before in sports. And I doubt I ever will again. Players optionally voting to kick their best player off the team while the #7 team in the country and heading into the playoffs.

You see, the core of what happened is that Shamel was simply a selfish guy. He knew how good he was... how could he not? Everyone had been telling him he was God's gift to lacrosse since high school. He had photo shoots, TV spots, magazine articles, etc. etc. He was a rockstar. And he backed it up from the moment he stepped on campus by putting up the numbers.

But he didn't practice hard. He broke team curfew rules because he didn't give a sh*t. He only wanted to run the plays where he was "the man." If you listen to the quote at the 3:57 mark of the video, it is so telling of his personality. And despite him dominating, the team was worse for it. Virginia consistently fell short when it mattered most. Because Shamel wanted to do Shamel.

Imagine coaches trying to push you hard in practice.. or in the weight room... or in conditioning... and the star player is half-assing it or complaining. Imagine coaches setting team rules and watching your team captain violate them without consequence. You'd think the coach would be the one upset, but in reality it worked out the other way. There were a lot of players not happy about it and they voiced their displeasure. But Coach Starsia wouldn't do anything. Instead, he said "it's your team, you make the call." And they kicked him right off the team at the most important part of the season. Unbelievable.

What happened? Virginia only went on to win the national championship despite voluntarily removing 2 of their 3 superstars (they also suspended his brother Rhamel temporarily... and then once they got on a roll they said "screw it" and kept him out for the rest of the playoffs).

-------------------

All I will say is that football is more of a team sport than any other one on the planet... including lacrosse. And relative to their sports, Aaron Lynch is nowhere near the talent or impact of Shamel Bratton. He's not even close. However this situation unfolds, I take solace in knowing it's a situation handled by Brian Kelly who has clearly shown he will put the good of the team first and not pander to an individual no matter the circumstances.

Ummm, yeah, there's some missing on the whole saga! Hell, there's obviously a ginormous amount missing from a one word tweet his mom made today!

Aaron Lynch's mom makes a one word tweet and IE nation has gone into an absolute frenzy. Sherm's post a page or two back summed it all up best.

Hey, if Aaron does want to come back, do ya'll think Kelly will let IE vote on and decide the matter for him? Maybe we could do it like our year end awards last year??? Leave the polls open for a week or so and then Kelly can determine his fate once the polls close.

I'm hoping Manti Te'o. If anyone has the ability to truly step up and be a "count on me" leader on the defense it is Manti Te'o.

Great post! I don't know the first thing about lacrosse or Shamel Bratton, but it's a useful story here. Aaron Lynch being on the team would mean that on some plays the other ten guys get a break, because he will make an eye-poppingly athletic move and sack the QB by himself. Without Aaron Lynch, all eleven guys may have to bring it on each play, that's all. Nothing they can't handle; they should be doing that anyway.

And I agree 100% with the bolded part. I won't say that I necessarily would or wouldn't take Aaron Lynch back -- it'll depend on circumstances that we don't and won't know -- but I trust BK's judgment. It may be the right thing to forgive and forget, but it may not.

Wait, Shamel and Rhamel? Brothers with rhyming names? Yikes ...

Its a tough sport to sport comparison. But I agree, the biggest thing is nobody can be bigger than the team and you have to buy in to the program completely.

I cant wait to root for the guys who have bought in.

same rationale i used in defense of BK with Floyd... A coach who can make a kid a man while getting him to perform as a star is the greatest coach one can have... if he wants to come back -- earn it back. take a life lesson, chalk it up to an emotional mistake, and grow... The university and the player are both better in that situation. No one ever believed for a second Floyd wasnt going to start for ND as long as he followed the path. Lynch is the same way. Hes too talented to keep off the field but there are other ways to make him earn it

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and mine would be if in fact he trully wanted to and made a rash decision (I chose college based on a hs gf) realizes the significance of leaving the team...I feel he is so emotionally all over that he has allowed his anger and emotions at the present time dictate he felt he had no other choice when the heat of emotions settled he may have realized the bigger pic...wouldn't suprise me ..now this is a special place and can make a big difference in people's lives....I would welcome him w/ stipulations like what BK did w Floyd....this made him become a top 10 pic overall and made him a much more complete player because he had matured emotionally
