Speculation is going to happen regardless of his plans. I think that the logic he was trying to impart was that showing up to a spring game could, and by could I mean would most likely be, interpreted as the school that is his favorite; regardless of what he says. So not attending a spring game is the neutral media play if he does not want/need to go to a spring game in an "evaluation" capacity. At least that's how I understood his post..

that is what I got out of it too... Didnt think it was that difficult and not sure why people are jumping on him.

Let's just inform all recruits that they're no longer allowed to attend spring games as that leaves too much speculation.

Furthermore, staying at home, also leaves specualtion. So he can't be at his house.

I'll give Jaylon a ring and just tell him to go ahead and commit to ND. As that would eliminate all speculation.

Can I end the speculation?

As of now he is planning on playing in the New Level Athletics 7-on-7 in Pittsburgh the weekend of the 21st.

So neither would be the correct answer at this point.

I was trying to say it would create unneeded speculation if let's say he visited OSU on the 21st and ND on the let's say 27th. Ppl would act like he is a OSU lean and the sky is falling

Looks like I was partially right

At the Adidas Invitational in Ann Arbor, Big Blue representing w/ several commits here. Top Midwest LB Jaylon Smith had on ND hat.

That's got to be a good thing.

I hate to be the pessimistic one, but is anyone else getting worried about stuff like this. He is basically showing ND stuff off to other schools, yet he has not committed to us yet. Almost like he is saying "yeah, come get me." Hopefully I am over-thinking this...

I think you are putting a bit too much into it. I think it's more than likely that ND is his favorite, so he reps the gear, but he isn't committed because he truly wants to take his visits and explore all options. Steak is my favorite, but that doesn't mean I ignore the rest of the menu

It was reported that Matuska wore an ND tie to school when he heard coaches from other colleges would be there and look how that turned out. I don't think Jaylon is the kid of kid to play with us like that.

Confirmed he will play in the 7 on 7 on the 21st. No spring game at either.

Also Onwualu was in his ear a bit about ND.

This is hilarious. You jump all over people's asses and call them pessimists when they say something you don't see as optimism but then you post that you're worried about Jaylon Smith wearing a ND hat while in Ann Arbor. I don't know how you can view Jaylon sporting ND gear as negative.

Jaylon Smith is so good in space. Stopping every RB for a loss on a pitch play including scat back Berkley Edwards.

Wiltfong, from the Adidas Invitational. Really hope we get Jaylon.

Michigan commit Jourdan Lewis performing well as a WR/CB. Jaylon Smith is now locking folks down at CB but Jourdan beat him in their matchup.

Lol well we won't ask him to cover too many 170lb., 4.4 receivers but great to hear that he is generally locking people down. It's been reported/speculated that we see Jaylon as a CAT ... seems like putting him at CAT wastes a lot of coverage skill.

Dumbest post of the thread. Hands down. Kid wearing a ND hat is a bad sign? Really? lol

From Wiltfong at Addidas Invitational
am I the only one that just smiles reading about him an watching his film, haven't done that since Manti

" 1. Five-star outside linebacker Jaylon Smith stood out above the rest. The Fort Wayne (Ind.) Bishop Luers standout, and the nation’s No. 6 prospect overall, continues to live up to his billing during off-season events. After winning MVP honors at the Best of the Midwest earlier this year, Smith again showed his versatility against many of the Midwest’s top prospects.
Smith’s afternoon started with him shutting down running backs on toss plays, including one snap where he bottled up the quick and elusive Berkley Edwards. Just a physical specimen, the long and rangy Smith quickly sniffs things out to get to the football quick.
Later in the day, Smith used his 4.4 second 40-yard speed to rack up several interceptions covering running backs and then playing cornerback. He could run with everybody, he was physical, he could jam everybody. One kid he just drove backwards before he could get off the ball and into his route. Smith really broke on the football and has the soft hands necessary to make a big play instead of just a deflected pass."

Whoa.

It would be pretty cool to have an Irish commit who is like a 100 or 101 on 247. It just may happen when it's all said and done in ten months.

Would it be crazy to think he may be able to play CB? 4.44 speed, and sounds like his coverage skills (and everything else) are great.
