Those people are insane, and need to get off Urban's ****.[/QUOTE]

I talked to his dad earlier in the week and even if he gets an offer from Urby I dont see him going to OSU. His dad straight told me that he isnt buying what Urby is selling.

Wow. His video is insane. Kid is a total stud. Love that he's a lefty too. Anytime you can get talent like that, you grab it. I'm especially excited how he jumped to commit because he felt that it was a special opportunity that he couldn't pass up. In this day and age, it feels good to hear elite athletes say that about ND. Never gets old.

Interesting quote on II. Malik said he is still a OSU fan, but ND is the better fit. AKA he saw through the Meyer BS.

lol, you and I have been here for 2 months and we already know what is coming next... Some things on this board and its members or just too predictable.

Might want to spend more than two months here before making blanket statements.

While we'd all like to believe that everyone who plays for us was wrapped in an ND blanket at birth and bled blue and gold since day 1, we haven't been a "trendy" program in Malik's lifetime so it's understandable if he's a fan of OSU.

The important thing is that he's ready to work his tail off to make the best of the opportunity he sees at ND. To put it in perspective, every NFL player probably grew up rooting for a team whose jersey he isn't wearing, but that doesn't dictate their level of determination or success. Someone earlier said that he must've been told Kiel wouldn't redshirt, but if we're really selling a rise to BCS championships, then our 5* QB should be long gone to the pros before he exhausts his eligibility, and that opens the door for a freak athlete like Malik to hone his craft and step into a BCS-bound season whenever his number gets called. At this point, I'm nothing but excited to have this kid on board.

I agree with everything except your analogy. Nfl players rarely get to choose who drafts them. Eli and elway being exceptions.

True, I guess my point was that there's more to performing than who you rooted for growing up. Admittedly, not a rock-solid analogy though.

not sure what you are referring to, but with the people that said second and third that, they missed my point.

I wasnt saying he is going to decommit, I said it was predictable that people on this forum will come in here and say he will decommit. That was my point, ONLY 2 months and I know it is going to happen, though after RunTheBall and I predicted it, they will probably stay away for awhile... or maybe not...

they call themselves "realists." Those same "realists" never thought we would land Neal either...

I feel you here. While I was flipping through the new recruits thread, I was struck by the level of negativy. There is something to be said for being a realist, but a realist must be open to the posibility that someplayers are going to commit to ND. If you were to believe these folks you would have to expect our roster to reach 0 in a few years since we can convince no-one to play at the university. Alas, I used to enjoy ND football.

Great get. How fast is Malik, anyone have a 40 time on him?

Was wondering this as well. Kid looks fast in his videos.

He's also got a cannon and seems to truly represent a dual threat QB, with talent passing the football. I remember we all fell in love with Fuller's versatility and athleticism, but in my opinion Malik is much more refined in the passing game.

I also think it's interesting that he committed because he felt that he shouldn't pass up the opportunity. Refreshing to hear elite athletes say that about ND in an age full of the nonsense of Meyer, Saban, and the like.

It says a lot about Malik and his feelings towards ND that he is fully aware of the QB situation and still committed. That tells me that he's serious about his commitment, because he would have had to analyze the position and think hard about it before deciding. What a surprising, but huge, commitment.

I also remember reading somewhere that he's a very personable and engaging personality, and that he can turn into a great recruiter himself. When you combine that and the actual talent that has already committed, just wow. What a weekend.

As far as I'm concerned you're only weakening your point. I consider myself a realist and at no point did I ever think we didn't have a chance at Neal. Feel free to go back through his thread. You won't find a single chicken little or nay-saying post from me about the situation. Though, I'd question your sanity if you actually did...

My point is simply that you are taking a small sample, ~2 months during one of the most sensitive times of the year. We're fresh off a season (disappointing season by many accounts), recruiting season coming to a culmination, and an overall "down time" for ND happenings, aside from the few defections that we incurred.

So no, I don't think I did miss your point. I think you missed mine. Spend an entire year here so you can see how the board psyche adjusts accordingly to the goings-on of the ND fotoball program throughout a calendar year. I think you'll find yourself pleasantly surprised how positive said nay-sayers are during spring practive. It's only natural given the new hope that comes with it in more ways than one.

I guess I just can't appreciate a blanket statement from someone who hasn't been arounjd long enough to make an educated one...

I wonder if this is already an "upgrade" from the switch at OC/QB coach paying off? In some ways it's impossible to say definitively, but I wonder if Molnar were here if Malik would have committed (or at least committed this early). Obviously, Malik has to like Martin somewhat to pick ND, but I wonder if his decision for ND could be a harbinger of things to come on the field and on the recruiting trail. I hope so.

That's a good point. Judging by the way that Fuller was handled towards the end of the recruiting cycle for the '12 class, I'd assume that you're right in thinking that having Martin at OC/QB has more of an impact on this. If that's the case, it's just another reason to be happy with the way it all worked out.

I love his reasons for picking Notre Dame despite knowing the bottleneck of talent at his position. For me this exudes confidence and maturity and is indicative of a young man making good decisions for the right reasons. Love this pick up, welcome aboard Malik! Definitely a RKG, get here and give em hell.

Great quotes in this article from Inside the Irish. And welcome aboard young man. ND is fortunate to have you.

Quarterback Malik Zaire commits to the Irish | Inside the Irish

“Growing up here you’re definitely born to be an Ohio State fan,” Zaire told IrishIllustrated. “At the same time, I wanted to look at where I’d want to go to school without football. I could have gone to Ohio State, been a hometown hero and that would have been great. I had a great relationship with Coach Tressel. When Coach Meyer got there we had a good one-on-one relationship too. I don’t want to say I shied away, but I lost interest when they offered like seven or eight other quarterbacks in a one or two week span. That turned me off a little.”

(If Zaire can read defenses as well as crafty coaches in Columbus, he’s on his way to a fantastic career.)
