Pretty good lead into Spring Ball...

I think this is one of the more underrated aspects of the Neal commitment. As Kelly astutely mentions in his interview, recruiting never stops for the staff. Their efforts took a big hit this past weekend when Michigan threw down a Texas-like commitment weekend. Landing a player like Neal, in the high profile way that he did, will do wonders for Irish recruiting here on out.

It'll be interesting to see what prospective recruits think. Many of these players pay attention to this stuff just like we do. Not only does it help that he's such an elite player, but it helps that we grabbed him three weeks after signing day when nothing else is going on in recruiting. The fact that this happened right after a monumental weekend from the Wolverines helps steal some momentum.

Can't wait to also see this kid get on the field and hopefully help the Irish get some victories. A big season on the field is really the biggest thing we need for recruiting.

We needed this. Welcome Davonte!

This Author needs to be fired.

Seriously. I'm sick of these writers who put absolutely no time, effort, or thought into the pieces they write. Normally I wouldn't care, but stuff like this pisses the wrong people off. No sense going around creating problems that require Kelly or someone else to fix. Now, I'm sure Davaris isn't that dense to think that Neal is going to come in and steal his spot, especially considering he didn't seem too concerned when a recruit who shall not be named was supposedly coming to ND to compete with Davaris for the same position.

Furthermore, I for one am tired of reading about all these sportswriters who probably never played a damn down of football in their life talking about how this or that player is upset because the school recruited this or that recruit at the same position. Bottom line - good players aren't worried about competition, and if they are, that's a problem. You want competition at all the positions because it makes the team better. Truly great players know this. I can't imagine that Davaris, Chris Brown, nor the rest of the receiving corps for that matter, are too upset about landing an elite player. Much ado about nothing, as usual.

Not surprisingly there is no author's name attached. It's crazy that this dude would go out of his way to say they play the "exact same position". He could have just said they're both WR, and then he wouldn't have been totally wrong and look like a jackass.

This might have already been started in here but I can't find it in all of these pages. Where do you guys think he should start corner or wr. I am partial to corner becouse I LOVE defense and I think we already have better wr vs our corners but thats just me. Also does he have a preference?

CONGRATS to Coach Kelly and his staff. Arizona wanted him so bad they hired his high school coach and gave a scholarship to his best friend. Amazing accomplishment prying him away from Arizona. Tuitt. Lynch. Let the parent play the heavy because they love thier kid and want to makre it easy for them to make the decision that is right for the rest of their lives. If you get hurt or misfortune strikes and you can not play in the NFL would you prefer a degree from Notre Dame? We will see this again. Parent plays the role of the bad person FORCING thier son to go to Notre Dame to make it easier for their son to do what he really wants to do and resist incredible local pressure to stay home.

I'm sure that Kelly really wants him on offense to be that dynamic playmaker he seems to covet in that slot position. Personally I would like to seem him play both as well as special teams. Time to bring that Heisman back home baby. Call me Beano Cook lol!

So Beano, are you calling for 2 or 3 Heisman's for Neal? :)

A player like Raghib Ismail comes along every 25 years or so and we got one here.

Top 3 impacts of Neal on the field
1.Special teams game changer. Not only running back td's to beat Michigan I see a few blocked field goals and extra points in his career.

2. Ability to eliminate an elite pass rush through screens. Can't tackle him one on one period!

3. Hidden yardage. we will be starting alot of drives at the 40 or better. If we don't score, our opponents will be starting their drives inside the 10 and must go 90 against the likes of Lynch and Co.

GO IRISH BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

worst informed piece i've ever read. yes both DD and Neal play wide receiver, but seriously we're not playing in the 1940s. there's more than one wr on the field nowadays.

in all reality having a slot that can make plays is great news for guys like DD. Can you imagine if Mike had a stud at slot to take away some pressure from him?

Just watched his highlights vid on the first page for the first time, and I have to say, I love that mid-screen that they ran over and over. Hope to see a lot of that next year.

My next prediction. Neal is going to challenge for the Heisman in 3 years.

Davonte Neal, recent Notre Dame commit, focuses on new beginning after hectic day - ESPN

"It was a family situation that we would like to keep private right now," Luke Neal said. "We are going to try to deal with it within ourselves first."

Luke Neal said that someone in his family had been seriously injured, though he did not disclose any further details. Just weeks after one of Davonte Neal's cousins was killed in a car accident, Luke Neal said that another tragedy had beset the family in what should have been a time of celebration

Also, if any of you have never read the story on Luke Neal I suggest it. He may come off like a jerk or too controlling at times but he is really just trying to provide the best opportunities for Davonte.

Wow, bet that Fox Sports reporter feels like a jerk ...

And the story on Luke Neal really is a must-read; he doesn't seem so much like an overbearing control freak dad if you know the background.

Yeah, the Craig guy or whatever who was the one blasting the Neals looks like a douche now. Not that he didn't look like one before. Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt, or something similar, applies here. Guy should apologize.

Here is Craig Morgan's story from yesterday. I haven't read it yet but I'm sure it isn't very kind considering the hissy fit he threw on camera yesterday.

Neal's no-show a lesson for all

He dogs on Davonte, Luke and the recruiting process as a whole. He even says, "dad won out". So I take it that he went home pouting like a little girl and wrote this article. He obviously never cared to hear the true story of what happened. Even ESPN has backed off Davonte. This article makes this guy look like a total Ahole.

I can't speak to everything that he wrote, because I don't know him or Neal... but it's pretty obvious from this story plus his statements yesterday that he wanted Neal to go to Arizona.

What story? According to Neal's own comments, there was a medical emergency in the family that caused the delay. He also said that he never wavered.

According to Davonte's father, Luke, it was a "very serious family crisis" that kept Davonte Neal from disclosing Tuesday morning he is heading to Notre Dame.

"It's really bad right now and we just want to kind of keep that away," Luke Neal told Ruland. "It is a personal family trauma."
