I hope you are right but I think PSU will be hard to beat here even with all that has happened. New head coach will probably be selling Breneman hard on him helping to bring back PSU football to where it belongs. I'm sure he will also be selling him about how he has used Gronkowski and Hernandez in the Patriots offense.

I think ND has a good chance of getting Breneman. The thing that isnt going into PSU favors are the Sandusky Scandal, New Head Coach with no experience as a Head Coach replacing Joe Paterno, not successfully recruiting the State of PA for almost five years and overrated academics. I think the longer it goes the better for Notre Dame.

I'm going to go ahead and assume that the strength of the respective recruiting classes from Notre Dame, Penn State, and Ohio State will have a huge impact.

Bill O'Brien can say "oh yeah Patriots offense yadda yadda" all he wants, but if Breneman sees a so-so Penn State team with another struggling offense and a mediocre recruiting class due to the extreme lack of Nittany Lion enthusiasm (due, of course, to Jerry Sandusky and Joepa's death)...I have difficulty seeing a smart kid say "yeah, I'll turn this thing around!" He is a TE, and ultimately cannot succeed without other strong players around him (...like at quarterback, which Penn State does not have at the moment).

If Penn State doesn't surprise in the win column and in the recruiting rankings, I have a difficult time seeing Breneman end up there. No info.

We need to do whatever possible to bring this kid in. Bring in the big guns Kelly. Wouldn't mind seeing Kelly personally recruit him.

TIFWIW There is a gym in the Harrisburg area which trains athletes and I asked someone affiflated with the gym about ND'S chances with Adam. They train Adam and told me that ND has a very good chance of getting him. They also said that ND is probably in his top 2 or 3. They believe it is a PSU and ND battle. They think he is considering PSU cause of O'Brien and growing up a fan of the team.

I don't think he's just our #1 TE target next year. I think he might be our overall #1 target. ESPN has him ranked as the #3 player...in the nation.

Exactly....yes, it's ESPN and it's early but to be #3 in the early ranking for a TE!!!!! You know he is dammmnn good.

Saw him play in the district playoffs back in November. He's the real deal.

Do we know who is recruiting PA now that Molnar left? That's the biggie.

I've said it before, but I really like our chances against PSU. O'Brien doesn't have the offensive personnel in place to really flex his TEs, while Eifert is the pre-season favorite to win the Mackey and be the #1 TE in the 2013 draft.

And that's to say nothing about the cloud over the program; it will take years to dissipate.

Agree with everything except Tyler going as the #1 TE next year.

When I look at what TE's are the most successfull in the NFL, I think of Gronk, Graham, Gates, Davis, Witten, etc. Tyler will need to add a significant amount of girth to be as big as those guys. I see him as 2nd or 3rd round pick given his current body, but he is extremely talented.

What TEs do you think would go ahead of him? I can see him as a Dallas Clark. Clark was big but slim compared to those guys and I can see Eifert turning into that look as well.

I don't think Eifert has to put on significant amount of weight. Most of the names you mentioned only weigh about 10lbs more.

TE's such as Aaron Hernandez, Tony Gonzalez, Dallas Clark, Kellen Winslow, and Dustin Keller are all around the same as Eifert and they are all pretty good in their own right.

Not to derail the thread though. If Breneman is the #3 player in the nation as a TE. He is definitely a must get and should be on the top of the list.

Very encouraging:

Early reports on Booker’s abilities on the recruiting trail have been nothing but glowing, including Breneman’s.

“Coach Booker is awesome,” the tight end said. “I talk to him on Facebook, we talk about everything. He’s a funny guy. He’s one of the coolest coaches I’ve talked to, so is Coach Martin.”

Notice I didn't say he'd go in the first round (though he might). The #1 TE is determined by the relative quality of his specific class, not by how he compares to current NFL greats.

The 2013 TE draft class is shaping up to be pretty weak. If Eifert performs as well in 2012 as he did in 2011, he'll be an early favorite for both the Mackey and the #1 TE. Whether the #1 TE goes in the first round is another question entirely. Rudolph didn't.

It was pretty absurd that he didn't win the Mackey this past season.

I'm in ga and they talk about how tony g of the falcons is going to retire after this year and the sport talk guys here said they other day that they didn't need to draft a te this year in draft and wait and try to get eifert in next years. they talked really high on him and wanted him to replace tony g.

I agree. The last time had a legit Tight End was Kyle Brady which was 1994 and he went to Breneman's High School. That school is like Chernoable almost.

I agree their QB situation is worse there then at ND. Their offense is extremely boring and I wouldnt be suprised if they win like 5 games this year.

Fair enough. I love Eifert and I think he is outstanding. The strange thing about TE's is that there are always two or three guys that bust out each year. It will be interesting to see who that is in 2012.

Rob Gronkowski is his favorite athlete. O'Brien is going to sell the sh1t out of that.

Anthony Fasano, John Carlson, Kyle Rudolph, Tyler Eifert

Just saying, we have some solid production out of the TE position lately.

Notre Dame and top Tight Ends just go together like the SEC and recruiting violations that no one seems to enforce.
