The next Golden Tate? Same size same speed it sure would be nice to see....
We have a BCS Defense 5 star QB seems to good to pass up plus who doesn't want to wear the golden helmets?

I hope we knock this one out of the park....

It seems like we lead with this kid, do you agree GITF?

I don't think we lead but we are definitely in the mix. As GB said, watch out for OU. He suddenly has high interest in them.

One would think that getting Gunner would make us very attractive to receivers. We do have three already though.

I am trying to figure out why we are out of this. he absolutely loved his visit to ND. Urbie comes in and no one thinks ND has a shot.

Four, technically. Carlisle's transfer all but guarantees that Russell will start his college career at slot receiver.

No prototypical slot receivers though. That spot is wide open for Neal.

I'd say Russell is pretty close to a prototypical slot receiver. Not as explosive as Agholor or Neal, but he's a 4:s: talent that checks all the boxes for that position.

Not so fast Whiskey. I would say there's a good chance, but I can also see a scenario where GA3 moves to slot and Russel stays at back. I can see a few others as well. Nice to have the flexibility with several of these guys. I don't think anything will be a lock until after these young men get on the field.

That's possible, but it strikes me as very unlikely. GAIII was moved to RB because he doesn't have the hands for WR, and he's already got a year of training/ PT at the position. Why reset GAIII's development by moving him back to a position for which he has already demonstrated a serious deficiency when Russell is a 4:s: talent that was specifically recruited to play that position?

Agreed that it is far more likely that Russell plays slot.

so if we get Neal, and we don't get another corner, does someone move to cornerback, I wonder? We'll have Neal and Russell as sure slot guys. Then we have Chris Brown and Farley; aren't they slot guys as well? (I could be wrong) Four slot guys to five cornerbacks seems like a bad ratio. Just wondering.

EDIT: also Toma and whatever other upperclassmen play slot (I'm thinking Riddick will stay at RB)

No offense Whiskey, because I think you are one of the best posters on here, but I take issue with the fact that you keep saying BK stated that GAIII has 'bad hands' or 'doesn't have the hands for WR'. If you go back and look at the quote that is not what he said. BK said he didn't have the 'ball skills', which is something different altogether than having poor hands. Trust me when I say I am not the only one who feels this way either - there was a huge debate about this on another board when the quote first came out.

I don't think his hands are the reason he wouldn't be a WR - I think it is because he is not as much as a quick-twitch lateral player as a Russell, McDaniel, Riddick, etc and is not as comfortable attacking the ball in the air as the others. He seems like he could be a great one-cut and go back in the spread, which is what I really hope he becomes. Seems like he doesn't need much to hit full speed, and once he does he is gone. Only problem I see that does not allow him to be a great 'back' in the sense most think is that he does not have the lateral movement in his hips that a Cierre Wood has. Does that mean I don't think he can be just as good or better than Cierre? Hell no. I actually think he will be better for ND if he continues to improve. They are just different type runners, and they have to play to their strengths.

All that being said, this is why from the beginning I never understood why people were touting him as a great slot prospect. I don't think he is built for the slot at all (unless he was positioned there for a bubble screen type play). I believe he would have been much more suited on the outside as a deep-threat burner as a WR. However, I would much rather see him in the backfield, getting multiple more touches per game. Lord knows he is one of, if not the, biggest home run threat we have had in years.

Thanks for clarifying. I haven't read the direct quote in a while, so apologies for mischaracterizing it.

Agreed on all other accounts as well.

I agree with all of this. I would just add that the reason he was moved to RB was NOT his hands or his ball skills, but rather Cameron Roberson's injury.

The only thing I worry about is his seeming small-boned, not just thin. Not everyone can pack on 15 lbs.

I like the idea that Martin will be running more 2-back sets. A guy like GAIII can be really good zipping into the flats on screen passes, reverses, etc.

Is this true? I hadn't heard this. I like that idea too, with our current personnel.

Oh no worries my friend. Just don't want it out there in ND nation that he has bad hands. Bad lip syncing and rapping skills, maybe. Just nothing poor on the football field ;)

I think we will be in 2 back sets alot with wood/ Riddick and in the future Carlisle/GA3 with Roberson and Mahone seeing time. Also expect two TEs with eifert and Koyack

I believe BK has said in a very diplomatic way that GA3's future will be at running back, when asked about his potentially playing slot.
