Scottsdale Chaparral senior receiver Davonté Neal will meet with a North Carolina coach today, University of Arizona coaches on Wednesday and Ohio State and Notre Dame coaches on Thursday, before leaving Friday for his official visit to Arkansas.
Then, next Monday, Luke Neal will have his son meet with Arizona State head coach Todd Graham and an assistant, likely DelVaughn Alexander.
Luke Neal, Davonte's father, said he met by himself with Alexander on Monday. He felt the meeting went well. He likes the fact that Alexander has Los Angeles roots (Alexander played at USC), and they have similar connections (both are friends with former USC and NFL wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson). Luke Neal grew up in Los Angeles.
He said he liked how direct Alexander was, which is why there will now be a second meeting, this time with Davonte in the room.
The UA meeting should be interesting with head coach Rich Rodriguez expected to be accompanied by offensive line coach Robert Anae. Anae and Luke Neal coached together at Ricks College in the 1990s. They have a good relationship.
That likley will lead to a second meeting that will include Davonte, the state's two-time Gatorade Football Player of the Year.
Neal, who took his official visit to Ohio State last weekend, might be looking closer at Notre Dame after five-star quarterback Gunner Kiel enrolled at Notre Dame on Tuesday. Rivals.com has Kiel ranked as the No. 1 pro-style quarterback in the nation for his class.
Davonté Neal said he is still keeping his options open and may not make his decision until Feb. 1 signing day or beyond.
As for the Ohio State trip, he said he was impressed with coach Urban Meyer's offense and energy.
"He's a high-energy guy," Davonté said. "I love the fast-tempo offensive style."
