I don't claim to have much knowlege regarding LSU (I hate the SEC and the fans of the conference's member schools). However, unless a team is thinking purely of the future or the freshman QB is extremely developed physically and mentally, teams won't generally start them right away (as in the first four or five games of the season). Given the nature of the SEC, since you asked about LSU, I would doubt that Kiel would start. Even Tebow was only PT as a freshmen.

They have JUCO transfer Zach Mettenberger, who was originally a fairly highly touted prospect committed to Georgia.

Hmm, if he started at LSU I would be PO'd, that means he is good enough to start AS A FRESHMAN against SEC defenses, just think what he could have done against the defenses ND would see. It would defiantly be whoulda shoulda coulda situation.

I truly hope he is Irish when its all said and done. At this point I will focus on Christmas and other things because this whole recruitment has dragged on and on and no one knows anything really. I check this thread several times a day only to see nothing has changed. At least Gunner is taking his time to make the most important decision of his life.

Fuller is the 34th ranked prospect overall on Rivals. Why are people speculating that the staff doesn't feel good about getting Kiel, and that's why they are going after Fuller?

Wouldn't any program, much less one rebuilding and trying to restore national credibility want a top 50 prospect no matter what?

I'd say its due to the fact they are recruiting him to play QB more than anything. Previously we were recruiting him to play CB. Plus he said he wouldn't likely look at us more if Kiel committed.

Just so everyone knows as well, the Kiel's did actually come out and say that ND would probably be where he ended up after the USC game. That was before any visits to LSU or Vandy though.

Thanks GB, always helping me out on here. I know Mettenberger has an absolute cannon, just was trying to get an idea of where he is pecking order wise. I have no sense of Vandy's depth chart, only watched 5 quarters of them this season.

My 2 cents are similar. I honestly don't think he has even fully decided yet, and that's completely fine. It is a huge life decision on his part and he shouldn't face detraction because it doesn't fit certain fan's predetermined timelines. Gunner is a stud and if he chooses the Irish this week I will be stoked.

In the event he doesn't, our staff has put us in great position to possibly land another QB this cycle, who is a different kind of 5 star talent but another stud in his own right. That, combined with the class we have already pulled in, makes me love where we are at right now recruiting wise.

FYI, there is another QB that we are likely gaining in this cycle, albeit not a scholarship one. MI QB Brian Cleary of University of Detroit. He was receiving some low D-1 interest, and was just accepted to ND as a student per BG. He's from a tough division, so you never know. Either way, it gives us another decent body at that position that doesn't affect the 85 cap. Not expecting anything, just thought it was worth noting.

I don't understand how Wiltfong knows this considering everyone had been saying the whole time that the Kiel's are tight lipped yet he knows they love the talent and early pt at LSU?
