And then he decommited, presumably because he'd rather go to a more established program where it was more assured he wouldn't get thrown around like a rag doll.

There is a difference between mediocrity and incompetence.

On that note, the idea that Vanderbilt is going to surpass Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and even Tennessee in the near future is a pipe dream. If Franklin is the man, they may end up third in their division every once in a while.

If Gunner is looking to compete for national championships, he really should consider Rutgers.

Don't know if this is premium or not but lots of good quotes from Kip Kiel (Gunner's father). Definitely sounds like Gunner is being methodical about the process because he committed so early... wants to make sure he checks out all of his options and leaves no stone unturned. Will definitely be up to South Bend again; father says it doesn't matter if it's an official because he's been up there many times and it's so easy to make the short drive.

Other stuff too, but won't share too much for the time being.

Assuming this is the case, as much as I HATE the hat-picking game BS that recruits like to play, it sure would be nice to see a ND hat picked for once- ESPECIALLY from such a high-profile kid. That said, ND-type kids typically don't play the hat game and if Gunner is to choose us, we'll find out because some d-bag "reporter" elected to leak it in lieu of giving the kid his chance to make the announcement...whenever that may be.

I generally agree with you, just playing devils advocate here, but didn't Manti hat-pick?

@ClayTravisBGID:

Good news keeps coming for Vandy: 5 star QB Gunner Kiel back on campus next weekend for official visit with family.

If Vandy lands him, then so be it.

Either the staff is just not pushing hard enough for him or he is looking to go anywhere but ND. It may just not work out for ND the way we all thought it would.

I read a good article on the Kiel's taking their visits, evaluating Gunner's options and then making a thought out decision ( especially after his IU commit/ decommits situation.) I believe it was on ISD, but not 100% sure. I'm hoping we land Gunner. He can be a top notch QB diverence maker!!! IMO
Go Irish

I think hes coming. Just doesn't want to commit to another school only to decommit again. Hes doing the right thing and taking his time. He will end up Irish.

wooly going to get you.

Wooly has a solid argument. But I still have yet to see any shred of evidence that Gunner would be stoked to be Irish.

His recruitment has been strange and I hope that I am wrong, because I want him in the blue and gold.

The evidence could go both ways. Based on the info that is out there no one has a clue except him and his family.

he's an EE so if that's the case he'll have about a month to bring some ppl along for the ride should he choose to attend ND

If he comes to ND, do you guys think he would have a problem with redshirting? It's pretty rare that the top QB in a class goes along with sitting out for a season, but with Hendrix, Golson, and Rees in the lineup, it's hard to see him winning out right away.

2011 Jeff Driskel plays sparingly I believe at UF
2010 Heaps was at BYU so there wasnt much depth he started and played pretty well
2009 Barkley started and played okay
2008 Pryor started and played okay
2007 well you know

His recruitment reminds me a lot of the Anthony Barr recruitment. A legacy with serious family ties to the University. Without any real knowledge, I feel that if he truly wanted to go to ND he would have committed a long time ago.

There was a tweet the other day that a current SEC coach was interested in the PSU job. They didn't give the name but I wonder if it is Franklin. He has become the flavor of the moment this year.
