You're wrong on both assumptions. They're referring to Mike Leach, old Texas Tech head coach.

Leach going to UNM? Really? I'll believe it when I see it.

Thanks for the heads up, didn't recognize the picture.

Eh. We're running low on spots and I like Breneman next year.

We're only in the running for Breneman next year, he is by no means a lock and a bird in hand is better than two in the bush. Also if Ragone doesnt come back next year which its likely he wont, we could actually use another TE. Since its likely he would save a year of eligibility next year, there would be two years of separation between him and the next youngest guy in Koyack.

And TT is right, we are not low on spots anymore. Barring the chance we completely win out and finish 10-3 we are not going to be seeing a lot of guys who visited last weekend suiting up for the Irish next year. Even at 10-3 its unlikely.

I waited for the day for USC to lose a close one just to text and tweet all the USC fans I know! #ihateUSC

Just tweeted this. Seems like he would fit in well at ND...

Notre Dame football recruiting: A wish list of late recruits - southbendtribune.com

Taylor McNamara, TE, 6-5, 232, San Diego (Westview). On the surface, tight end isn’t a major, major need, not with Ben Koyack and Alex Welch each retaining three years of eligibility beginning next year.
But peeking down the road, it’s not a stretch to think that starter Tyler Eifert, a sophomore eligibility-wise this year, could leave a fifth year on the table and bolt for the NFL following the 2012 season.
That would leave a somewhat thin depth chart, making McNamara more important this year than initially thought.
He’s technically committed to Arizona, but Mike Stoops, the coach to whom he committed, has since been fired, and McNamara has been taking visits. His trip to Notre Dame comes later this month, for the Boston College game.

I think that the theory has been: 2012= Eifert/ Jake Golic/ Welch/ Koyack with three high-quality. No TE freshman absolutely needed. 2013= Koyack & Welch very high quality TEs as junior eligibility; add one, probably two, freshmen to roster. If only one, look to someone like Luke Massa as possible emergency fourth TE. Kelly plays two TEs a lot, so having four on roster is good strategy vs chance of injury.

Eifert played the opener in 2009.

As far as TE goes, I think we should aim at 1 per year and not plan on red-shirting since they can usually play special teams and we have access to a lot of good recruits.

We also shouldn't rely on everyone staying healthy.

So I would take McNamara since Golic has not played much.

Right, but if he wanted to he could apply for a medical red shirt?

Obviously he won't as he will be playing in the NFL after 2012.

I think he could.

I wonder if the NFL is not quite as tempting considering his injury. Why not give it another year before letting the Ray Lewis's of the world hit you on crossing patterns.

Anyway back McNamara, I think we get him.

I agree. For me it's much like a Kiel situation. He surprised me when he committed anywhere but ND, and now that his initial choice is not looking so good, ND should be fully in the mix. We should beat BC this year and with a good visit, I think we land him.
