Interesting note about Meyer's thoughts on Tebow. I wonder, though, if Kelly truly feels the same way about Kiel.

I obviously have no idea what Kelly actually feels about Kiel, but if he thinks he is the guy to get him over the hump, then I think the full-court-press is on and I can't help but feel he will ultimately be Irish.

He's been pretty tight lipped throughout his recruitment. Maybe he prefers to not talk publicly about it.

Golson is a great prospect and seems like a good fit for Notre Dame. His game certianly fits Kelly's style as well. But he was the best prospect available to Kelly, not the best QB available. Gunner has every physical tool necessary to be extremely successful in Kelly's offense. He isn't a "nice fit", he is a "perfect fit".

Lol, Golson is a true freshman. Give him some time. You never want a true freshman at qb to come in and play right away. Same thing with Gunner, I wouldn't want him to be the starter next year if he becomes Irish.

In Urban Meyer's book, he talked about getting on a plane after his last visit with Tebow before NSD. He looked at his assistant and told him that getting Tebow would be the difference in winning National Championships and just winning the SEC. ...

... and when Meyer returned to campus he promptly told QB recruit Jevan Snead already committed to Florida that HE was still UF's QB of the future. Tebow would be a fullback. Snead wasn't a fool and decommitted.

Don't forget the rest, Jevan Snead then goes to Texas where Mack Brown tells him he will be the next great QB but they happen to have a kid named Colt McCoy and so Jevan transfers to Ole Miss and has a great RS Sophomore season and old Houston Nutt talked him into coming back for his RS Junior year and he struggled and went pro and wasn't drafted. Morale of the story? Go to ND and get the degree so if football doesn't work out you are still set for life.

I thought the UF guy ended up at Ole Miss but couldn't find his name. I went back to the Rivals QB Rankings and saw an article on his commitment to UT and didn't take it further.

Gunner, you can come to ND and throw to Ferguson, Greenberry, Chris Brown, and Payton or Agholor (please, lord!) and a stud TE for your entire college career. Ready, set, commit!

Do not forget about Davaris Daniels. He is going to be a player, and I see him being the most likely heir to #3.

Kiel can run too. I know I am a broken record on this, but I truly feel that Gunner would be a program changing type of player for us. Kelly has never had a kid this talented paired with all of the tools he looks for in a QB.

Gunner would be an awesome get and I think with a quality QB at the helm we would see that our WRs other than Floyd are better than they have looked this season, and Brian Kelly's offense is dynamic. We literally have WRs open on 95% of the plays we run. Unfortunately they are missed 75% of the time.

You are kinda proving my point. We haven't seen enough of Golson to anoint him the future star QB of Notre Dame, and we haven't seen Gunner on that same note.

So all we can go by are tangible skills, ratings and high school performance:

On tangible skills, there is no comparison. Golson is very shifty with a good arm, but just physically not on the same level as Kiel. Kiel is currently on pace to be on par with Golson passing yds (golson was the most prolific passing qb in SC history) and already has more rushing yards as Golson did his entire senior year. This, with Kiel just over halfway through the season. Gunner is also 4 inches taller and outweighs Golson by 50 pounds. This all without the benefits of Longo.

From a ratings standpoint, there is also little to compare. For the sake of argument, I am using Rivals rankings, they rank #1QB/5* (Kiel) and #16DTQB/3* (Everett) respectfully.

Finally, from high school performance, this is kinda subjective. I like Kiel's power running style better and he has a slightly better arm (Golson has a great arm, there is not a significant downgrade arm-wise from Kiel to Golson, if any.). I encourage you to take a look at both of their highlights and make that decision for yourself.

I guess what I am saying is that this non-sense of saying we shouldn't take the best QB recruit in the country because we "like" Golson is silly. Football has an element of trying to guess how players will translate in the future. So all we can go on are the items listed above, which Kiel is convincingly stronger in.

Not to mention, look at the kid.

Now, I love Golson and think that he could play QB for us at and EXTREMELY high level for us. We would be fine with him leading our team if we didn't get Kiel. That being said, QB is a polarizing position because of the fact that usually only one player can play. Think if this was the same with the position of RB. Would anyone not want Keith Marshall because we have Cierre Wood? I don't think so.

He is graduating in December, but he is taking the recruiting process slowly. If he chose his school before Dec, he certainly could EE, but all signs point to a longer recruitment.

Now that there is a possibility of getting him, you most definitely take him in a heart beat. Great QB are hard to find, and by taking as many as you can you are putting the odds on your side. I thought that getting him was fantasy, before. So, I didn't think taking a QB this year would be necessary, but I am for the thought now... Only fools don't change their minds.

Expect DaVaris.....Daniel has been "hurt" in some way his entire career. I don't expect him to turn it on after three years of scout team.

This, I agree with. I have been a Tommy supporter and still think he's our best chance at winning games, right now, but he does miss a lot of open receivers. I know it happens to every QB but he just seems to force passes at times rather than stretch the play or go through all his progressions.

It seems to me that a QB that knows he can roll out or pick up 7 quick yards can be more patient in the pocket and find the open man, while having the option to escape.

Gunner would be better than ideal for this offense.. hell, for any offense. I'm sure the staff is all over it.

Aside from missing reads, I also think part of the problem with Tommy is he just down not have the arm strength or quick enough release to make a lot of the throws required to hit those open receivers. Gunner on the other hand can hit a deep crossing route 25 yards down field with just a flick of the wrist and without any windup or loading time on the throw. That delivery time and the difference in time that the ball is in the air between a guy with a cannon like Gunner, and a guy that has to put air under his throws like Tommy, is the difference in being able to fit the ball in that window, and not being able to.

Hopefully we get Kiel and this all becomes a moot point, but in the meantime I would definitely like to see Hendrix get a bigger role in the offense. He has more mobility, more arm strength, and I dont see how he could miss any more reads than Rees does.

I think we should switch to Hendrix almost every time we get into the red zone. The only exception would be if we had a long drive with mostly run plays, in that case keep Tommy in.
