What is the "uniform surprise"?

OK, with all this hype surrounding this game, I will be a little disappointed is we just wear the green jerseys that we wore last year against Army, or the home version of the Mich game. It has to be something that we have not seen before; otherwise it will be a little bit of a letdown. I’m thinking of a plaid pattern or something to that effect. With BK being hush hush about the jerseys I just have a feeling it’s something that we are not expecting.

But its a game between two unranked teams midway through the season. I'm not downplaying the game - I couldn't be more excited. But still, I'm not sure the game is so epic that it requires a brand new uniform. Honestly, I'm not even sure where that idea would come from. Do you expect LSU and Alabama to break out never-seen-before unis when they play next week? Because that game will be hyped.

As far as the jerseys, that has been hyped on this board (exhaustively). But that isn't the football program's fault. They don't owe us a new uniform just because we have an idiotic 750-post thread on a message board, in which we have proposed some of the most radical (and offensively ugly) uniform changes imaginable. If they come out wearing anything other than green or blue, I will shocked beyond belief. And incredibly disappointed.

The atmosphere will be electric which is what the coaches want when hosting recruits.

Well, I don't mean to say that there will be nothing new or exciting with the jerseys Saturday. But I don't think the change will be as radical as some on here seem to expect. They may have a new twist on the green or the blue, and I could see why people in the program would be excited by that and think that will be a big surprise, and if so they wouldn't come out and try to shoot down anticipation.

But I think the program and some of the fans here are thinking along two different lines about any uniform change. People are expecting a really radical change, and doubt we'll see that. Some posters here are setting themselves up to be let down because their expectations are so extreme. I doubt we're going to see plaid or pink or black, or even gold jerseys. I'm not sure why anyone would WANT to see any of that, but that is another story.

“(Athletic director) Jack (Swarbrick) and I have been frustrated with the color of the helmet,” Kelly said. “We got Ryan Grooms, our equipment manager, who has been diligent in getting this put together. We feel like we finally got the gold the right way.

“It’s not olive. It’s not those different shades that we’ve seen over the years. We wanted it to be (like) the Golden Dome. That’s the representation to me.”

I'm conflicted on whether or not they will put the shamrock sticker on the new helmet. Part of me thinks they will leave it plain to make it a statement all by itself... but then there are the rumors of the home version of the UTL jerseys and Grooms talking about how the stickers were falling off during the michigan game due to the helmets chipping which supposedly won't happen anymore. My gut reaction is that they won't use them and will let the helmet stand out all by itself... I really have no idea though. Thoughts?

As much as I love the shamrock, I agree, I think for the first game with the new helmet it should be JUST the helmet. There's plenty of time for +shamrock games.

Please no. They would have absolutely nothing to do with the brand new helmet. I agree with most of you that the helmet will be left alone. Then I think its safe to say our jerseys are in good hands. They took something sacred to this program and improved it!! I think whatever it is they decide to do with the jersey will look amazing, just as the helmets do.

I think it makes sense that we might go with this. Our "traditional" colors, meaning the madonna blue that was one of the University's original colors (and is on the ceiling of the basilica:

), it's a tribute to the first night game in ND stadium (as mentioned), and sprint is giving out BLUE rally towels... I think it all adds up... but all we can do is wait and see

I totally agree with this. I have the utmost trust in this regime, across the board. From football, to recruiting, training, uniforms, stadium stuff, and whatever else, these guys have given me no reason to question their methods. Whatever the uniform is, I trust it will uphold the university's high standards for class.
