Awesome just simply awesome-I said earlier in the year these helmet manufs should be able to do this and they did. Let the students clean them up and keep that tradition but this helmet is what it should have been all along. Gold like no one else's gold!!! Now just hope that all the other gold helmet schools dont copy but I guess that's inevitable. I you remember back in the early 80's Notre Dame was the first school to use satin gold pants that were different up to that time, then everyone else started to use them. I'm sure this great helmet will be copied but at least no other school keeps them pure and uncluttered. It will be interesting to see what Navy does after seeing this.

OK, maybe I am reading too much into this but at the 3:30 mark of the video (I'll post the link here again so noone has to go back to find it) Grooms says that the goal last year was to have the helmet match the pants. And they did that from the BC game on. Could it be that the pants Saturday will also match the new helmets? I think so.

Captain Jack you stud. I am also glad to know that when I watched the games early in the season last year I wasnt losing my mind as I thought the helmet color was changing every week-it was. Seems to me the uneven texture look is what reflects the color better-more angles to reflect the light-well done Jack. Now we helmet 'Nancies' are happy-its time to 'knock hell' out of southern cal.

It is amazing to me (although not surprising) that some commenters at NDNation are complaining about the change to the helmet. They don't seem to understand the difference between "change" and "improvement." The helmet has always been intended to symbolize the Dome, and now it does so much more accurately.

"Tradition" is not synonymous with "not fixing broken **** because its always been this way" and the curmudgeons over at NDN should keep that in mind. If they changed the helmets to blue with the fighting leprechaun logo on them, that would be a change that betrayed tradition. This isn't.

I came to the realization years ago that there is a strong contingent of people in this world who aren't happy unless there is something for them to complain about. I love how BK is rocking these losers boats.

It has to be something that we have not seen before; otherwise it will be a little bit of a letdown. I’m thinking of a plaid pattern or something to that effect. With BK being hush hush about the jerseys I just have a feeling it’s something that we are not expecting.

I'm not claiming you were wrong or anything, just imagine that if we are still to paint them every week that they will still chip. Most schools send all their helmets away during the summer to get them reconditioned. I am sure we do too, but haven't heard of any other schools that paint every week and I don't see any other helmets that chip the way ours do. IMO I don't see it stopping, maybe they just don't chip as easily.

You might onto something. I don't think plaid, but Kelly did say we would use our traditional colors...he never said we would fashion them the same way....

These do not chip. They only scuff. That can be buffed off. No need to paint them anymore.
