So says the USC author. Funny because Rees and Barkley have similar numbers.

The USC author is probably a follower of Kuehnja, et al, the lost in the "Stars" crowd.

Rees doesn't have Barkley's skill set nor physical development, just as he doesn't have Crist's. Fortunately Rees doesn't read this site. He achieves and matures despite it.

You mean like how I stated that I'd rather have Lo Wood (3-star) play nickle over Zeke Motta (4-star) because I think Zeke is too slow?

Good stuff.

Motta wasn't a 4 star as a corner.

What's your point? BGIF claimed that I'm bedazzled by 'stars' (probably because I'm a Dayne Crist fan and he has more stars than Tommy), so I thought I'd give him an example of a package - nickle - where I prefer a 3-star over a 4-star.

FYI, an extra safety plays the nickle in NDs defense. Again, beside the point.

Motta's ratings:
Rivals- 4:s:, 5th OLB, 54th nationally
Scout- 4:s:, 10th WLB
ESPN- 3:s:, 28th S, NR

L. Wood's ratings:
Rivals- 3:s:, 44th CB, NR
Scout- 3:s:, 47th CB
ESPN- 3:s:, 28th CB, NR

Lo Wood is a true CB. Motta is a converted LB playing SS.

I don't want to get us off topic. I was just defending myself about what BGIF said. And I get that Motta is ss and Lo Wood is cb, but Kelly's all about 'athletes' and putting them where they fit best. Personally, I think Motta's too slow and I pray it isn't exposed vs. USC. In my non-important-fan only opinion, I'd like to see someone with a bit more speed come in for nickle, even if it's a cb.

Now, back to USC.

To be clear, I wasn't trying to refute anyone with that post. I just read vague references to Motta's and Wood's recruit ratings, and felt a need to clarify.

It's all good. I should have made my comment unquoted.

I don't know how they timed it but Kiffin said they time Farmer running a 3.96 in 40 yards on a KO coverage team

Hilarious. From the wikipedia entry for 40-yard-dash:

n 1986, Auburn's Bo Jackson is said to have run the fastest 40 yard dash at an NFL combine, with a reported time of 4.12.

So Kiffin thinks Farmer ran a 40 a full 4% than the alleged fastest time ever? He would.

BTW guys, I'm really close to finishing the trailer for this game. I don't like to toot my own horn, but it's not bad so far.

It should be up tomorrow.

Since Kiffin noted kickoff coverage, I'm wondering if he is starting the watch after Farmer gets a ten yard head start.

The more and more I think about this I believe the game comes down to how Theo Riddick, TJ Jones, Andrew Hendrix, and Tommy Rees play. If we get good no-turnover Tommy and Theo/TJ make plays I think we put up an awful lot of points; but if bad Tommy shows up USC will make his bad passes count and turn them into interceptions. And if Andrew Hendrix comes into this game ready to make some plays it could be worth 7-10 points.

No matter what USC is going to get their points. Their running game looks far better with that McNeal guy who actually has some explosion through the hole, and with Lee back playing they're just going to be pretty tough to stop. However, their red zone offense is pretty weak and as long as we don't give up big scoring plays they shouldn't top ~28 points in any scenario unless we get some in game injuries or something else stupid happens.

I'm going to predict good Tommy shows up and Notre Dame beats USC 38-24.

It would be pretty impressive to only lose on a 2-point conversion if they knew what we were going to do every play haha

Lane Kiffin on ESPN LA Radio this morning on the game.

We got a long week. We got alot of work to do this week. Obviously this is a big game in general SC Notre Dame and Notre Dame is playing really well. Very easily they could be undefeated you go back and look at those games. They are dominating Michigan in that game I think 400-100 yards at one point going intot the 4th Q at Michigan. They could very easily if they didn't screw up all the turnovers at USF they'd be undefeated in theTop 10 Top 5 team in the country. They are a really good team. Obviously they pointed everything at this game. You know it is good to be independent (semi laughing) you get to make your own schedule and times for games where they put a BYE in front of us and they put it as the 1st night game in 22 years. (Radio Host semi laughing) So obviously they are pointing everything at this game. So we are going to have really be ready.

Tried to get word for word but I was typing as he was talking so I might have left out a word here or there but that is the meat of what he said.

An offense that is clicking on all cylinders vs a team that can not run the ball and has to rely on the big play.

A defense that is shutting down the run vs a defense that is undersized and gives up several big plays.

Both teams have had turnover issues

! team has a really good coach and the other has Kiffen.
