I am surprised Showers does not have an offer

I am surprised Showers does not have an offer

He has the measurables and the the grades. His offer list is pretty good. Anybody have any insight?

I don't think that's the reason Domina. Just a hunch, but I think there is much more in play.

Jones is listed at 5' 10".

Must be something other than his height.

Not necessarily.

Scout lists Jones at 5-10, 175. Rivals and Blue & Gold have him at 6-0, 185.

Scout has Showers at 6-0, 181. Rivals and Blue & Gold have him at 5-11, 181.

Some prospects have grown since their profiles first went up. Some are current. Some may be projected rather than actual. Point is they're not precise. While the coaches prefer taller DBs I seriously doubt they have a precise cutoff height as a criterion. They don't know the exact height until they get a recruit on campus and measure him. Like some players player "faster" (or slower) than their 40 time, some players play bigger than their height. Stance, hips, reach, vertical leap, and reaction time all factor into the player's performance.

Cincinnati's last few recruiting classes have had DBs ranging from 5-9 to 6-3.

This one is a mystery to me. He seems to have the grades, size, and skills we are looking for. The only thing I can think of is that there must be something in his game that makes the coaching staff hesitate, but what do I know?

If he had gone to the skunkbears... and attempted to cover Mr. Tate...

Would it have been.... a...

GOLDEN-SHOWERS matchup?

Scout dropped him one slot while ESPN boosted him 12 slots.

Blue & Gold lists him with a 3.5 GPA/20 ACT and a member of the National Honor Society.

Justice Hayes, Ed Davis to announce college picks soon | freep.com | Detroit Free Press

Josh Helmholdt Freep Special (Wolverweasel) Correspondent

Madison Heights Madison's Valdez Showers, who holds scholarship offers from U-M, MSU, Auburn, Florida, Iowa and Wisconsin, is also considering making his college selection at the Sound Mind, Sound Body media day. If Showers is not ready to make a commitment, he will announce his final group of teams under consideration at the event.

I believe that Media Day is August 4th.

Keep in mind Helmholdt will covering the Hayes announcement on FRIDAY.

Per Matt Dorsey, Freep.com
7/30
Showers visited East Lansing with his family and told SpartanMag.com he was able to spend extensive time with the coaching staff to get to know it better. Showers did not say that he has a leading team or a timetable for a decision, but he did say that MSU coach Mark Dantonio and his staff is one of the reasons why he is looking closely at the Spartans.
