Does anyone else think that we need to put Dayne Crist back in against Purdue? Get him behind center again because he's a better QB than Reese. Or maybe even get Hendrix some reps. Reese, in my mind just isn't cutting it. He makes a GOOD ND football team look average.

Tommy Reese throws to one person. Yeah he utilized Eifert more against Pitt but other than that he goes to Floyd everytime. Nothing wrong with going to Floyd but it becomes so predictable. Also Reese can't throw the ball more than 10 yards. The deep threat is non existant. My feeling is that Reese is a good back up QB that's it.

Other players who suck

Zeke Motta
Goodman

Anyone else agree?

Amazing how many times I've seen people on this board misspell REES.

on topic though...

If we dont beat a team by ATLEAST 21 points who lost to Rice and barely beat Middle Tennessee, then I may be a little concerned. Our defense shouldn't give up anymore then 10 points to these jokers and thats being fair. If Rees pulls his normal turnover routine act again, I would heavily consider playing Crist again or giving Hendrix or Golson a shot (if I were BK of course).

Kelly acted in his press confernce like the pitt game was all gold. And it was far from that. This team struggled against the worse team we have played so far this season. I want a huge will but don't expect to win by more then 17 points.

Pitt isn't a bad team. They have a DL and RB among the best in the country. As I said all week, you people on here grossly underestimated them. Definitely a team that fits into the "above average" category if they can find their identity. Probably capped at seven wins.

Also please take into account that every team has a game like this, even the good ones. I stress that very much. Lou Holtz, or at least I think it was him, says "you never have the same team twice" or something along those lines. Each week the team has a different identity; and you never bring your best game each week so be glad the Irish got a W when they didn't execute for **** (and still put up 400 yards). I think you could probably argue that the really really really stupid turnovers are done with, not it's just bad turnovers. Call it a silver lining.

As for the Purdue game....Purdue will have to get crafty to even score a point. If I'm Purdue, I roll the pocket (as they did last year) and flood one side of the field and simply throw at Shembo and Fleming. The Boilermakers will likely only muster ~250 yards of offense. Defensively, clearly you have to copy what Pittsburgh did, but with their all-world DE onto the NFL, I don't see how they can get a lot of pressure. I think they'll have a hard time stopping Wood/Gray from getting 200, and that will in turn make Rees' job so much easier. They will double Floyd as they all do, so bet on Eifert and the rest of have better games. I am particularly interested in what Riddick can do here.

Simply saying, Notre Dame will be able to line it up and rush all over these guys. We say it every week, but if Notre Dame doesn't turn the ball over they will win by four touchdowns. This is the week I think they'll actually do it.

I specifically want to see: the running game open up a deep pass every now and then. Rees hasn't stretched the field vertically enough. Purdue will need to bring additional guys into the box and I want to see the Irish actually use that. I also want to see, when the Lynch/Tuitt/Shembo third down package is in, better defense against the back sneaking out for a screen. I thought Pittsburgh really could have utilized that more in their gameplan. It all has to deal with the maturity and experience of Lynch and Co. and when to realize that is happening. I'd love to see some improvement there. Also, ten sacks. :)

The crowd will be rough, I've heard many of the Purdue Alumni are getting bailed out of jail or taking the day off from delivering pizza's and bussing tables just to go see the game. : )

I would say we've had one bad game and two special "WTF" games. :) But I do agree. If Notre Dame doesn't win at least six of their next seven games, then I will say this season has been a considerable disappointment.

I have no fear of losing this game. The Irish would need to commit six turnovers. What really scares me is turning the ball over against Air Force and not getting the ball back for 8+ minutes. Games against Air Force and Navy will be all about offensive execution, and they worry the sh*t out of me.

Good thing I'll be there.

I've been fairly confident that Rees can throw a nice Seam route to Eifert, but with everyone bagging on his arm strength recently, I didn't have the evidence on hand to confidently push back. It seems that Keith Arnold agrees, though:

The Irish have one of their most potent rushing attacks in nearly a decade. They also have a wide receiving corps that goes as many as five or six deep. That sets up perfectly for a push-the-pace offense that dictates terms to the defense, not the other way around. The Irish aren’t going to be an explosive offense if they play horizontal football, dinking and dunking their way down the field. And while Rees can’t beat you with a QB keeper, he throws a great ball up the seam, showing more than enough arm strength and timing to eat up chunks of field vertically.

I hope he's right.

For all the hate Tommy has been garnering lately, can anyone name a single game this year where he has lost it for us? Can't say Michigan, they didn't capitalize on the turnovers in the 1st half at all, and he made the game winning drive we needed, defense just completely fell apart. South Florida? He played half that game, in a game where we had 0 points, and nearly brought us back to win. One of the INTs clearly was not his fault either. Thats it, two losses this season, and I can't fathom either of them being a result of his actions. The kid almost always puts lots of points on the board, Pitt has been the exception, not the rule. Lets just hope for a big blowout against Purdue so we can find something else to complain about...like lack of playing 2nd string

Over Cheering

Over Cheering

At least I will say for myself that I over cheer and over expect Notre Dame to kick butt every week. But I am reminded opposing coaches are no fools even with weaker teams. Certainly Pitt in talent clearly did not match up with Notre Dame. But their Coach Graham certainly matched up to Kelly and Rees with his confusing defensive schemes for three quarters. He almost beat them with his great coaching. So in future games I got to factor in more great coaching from opposing teams. Two facts you can take to the bank opposing coaches will continue to try to use defensive schemes to confuse Rees and instruct their receivers to hit go patterns when in solo coverage by Gray.

I think this was damage control on Kelly's part. He is nothing if not a politician, and is not about to publicly throw Tommy under the bus. In his heart of hearts he realizes he has a QB issue, but how does he fix that without disrupting team dynamics. Would love to be a fly on the wall when he and his staff discuss the strategy going forward.

If we can, manage the clock and have long drives that dont result in turnovers we win easily. Our defense front seven is going to easily control the line of scrimmage. Man its been awhile since i have had more confidence in our defense

#NotreDame fans that don't want to watch Irish at Purdue in boring 2D can view game on ESPN 3D. 3D broadcast analyst is our own Tim Brown.

Quick question for anyone who can answer because Google.com is useless. I'm thinking about getting tickets to the game. Does anyone know where the visitor section is at Ross Ade stadium?

Visitor section is usually the south end zone, right under the video board. I heard somewhere that that was already sold out, so my guess is they will spread all the ND fans around the stadium. Probably way up top on the east side of the stadium

They apparently haven't sold out yet, I just looked to see if I could buy some from the Purdue website and I could.

I personally bought three for $65 a piece and am glad to be making the haul from Columbus.

Purdue is full of suck. Should be over by the first half. 38-10 ND wins by 4 TD's.

I'm down with that.

This weekend I don't want any turnovers. If we can do that I see us winning by three touchdowns, if we continue playing sloppy it will be another close game which means alot more booze consumption for me.
