Those aren't opinions, those are all facts.

You're not rebuilding?

And "We are Michigan" is not a reasonable answer.

Michigan has to rebound from the worst three year stretch in school history, completely revamp a team in the middle of a transition between a pro style and a spread, turn around an absolutely atrocious defense with horrid depth, and deal with an increasingly tougher in-conference schedule. How is that not rebuilding?

"We're not rebuilding" is the same arrogant mindset that has wounded Notre Dame football for the past 15 years. Programs take time to build, which is why I won't panic if Notre Dame misses a BCS bowl this year.

Michigan is a good 3-5 years from competing for BCS bowls. For the record, I think Notre Dame is 2-3 years from reaching the same level, if Kelly really is the man for the job.

Clearly they aren't rebuilding...

Getting the crap beat out of them by Ohio State, not even in the running for a Big 10 title, and getting embarrassed in bowl games is the new status quo for Michigan. Nothing will change, they will merely reload.

No, they aren't rebuilding this year. But come talk to me in '12 and '13 after they lose their entire DL, WR, OL, etc. and try to replace them with freshmen and sophomores. It isn't going to be pretty.

Are they "media darlings" for the 2011 season? With a new offensive and defensive system do they deserve the attention?

I really think Michigan will be pretty good. I think they will have a very average-to-good defense because their DL will be quite talented. If Will Campbell plays up to his potential will be the big question mark because if he does they will be very hard to run on. Don't expect them to get much pass rush, but that whole 4 man front will be very hard to move.

Then you've got more experience in the secondary and Troy Woolfolk back. I think their LBs suck on paper, so we'll see there.

Then on offense you have a very veteran group of receivers plus a decent OL plus Denard Robinson. I don't think they'll be excellent but I think they'll be pretty good... and definitely solid in the game against us because we'll have ZERO film on them coming into the game.

Traditional fan bases, like UM and ND, don't like hearing the word rebuild, but they also don't like being built up, and dropped off a building when they win 6 games.

UM has a rough stretch coming, they may win 8 games this year, but as another poster said, the future is going to get rough. Kind of like ND in CW's first few years, he inherited a team of Jr/Sr's with experience, but no one to reload.

There is a trend in college football to hype up new "no name" coaches when they give a few motivating speeches and sign some surprising recruits. I've already read a few articles about all the great changes Al Golden is making at Miami and James Franklin at Vanderbilt. These guys have brought a new attitude to their respective programs and signed a few recruits that people thought would go elsewhere. But let's see how much people are buying into their new philosophies when they actually start coaching some games and their teams start to get beat up by ACC and SEC opponents. Some of these early signees will start to change their minds pretty quickly about being a part of a rebuilding program.

A lot of the media was ready to jump on the Brian Kelly bandwagon before last season. Even Mark May predicted 10 wins. But a few quick loses changes things instantly.

Hoke's first big test of course is the Irish, but I think Michigan goes down to ND this season. If the momentum keeps going from the end of last season, there is looking to be a good gleam of hope for the Irish. The Irish are looking great coming off a huge win over Miami. Michigan, however, is going to be looking for vengeance of a bad season and humiliating lose to Miss State. The big BIG game for Michigan fans though is Ohio State. If Michigan somehow beats OSU, than they will rally around Hoke like a legend. If Michigan wants to find another coach, they need too find what they were looking for when they found Bo Schembechler. Either way that, I think ND wins 17-14.

That'd either involve some poor offensive play or drastically improved defenses.

Kelly was also a semi big name coaching candidate. Nothing like the Gruden, Meyer, Stoops type names always floating around but at least he was a visible nationally before he got to ND. But you are right finishing strong locked down several big commitments in this years class.

My tolerance for obnoxious rival fans posting on our board is at an all-time low.

If one of us posted something like this at MGOBlog, he'd be banned within minutes.

Why do we subject ourselves to this?

ROTFLMAO.

Thanks to the poster who bumped this. It made my day.

There's a whole flock of crow to be eaten in this thread....

I will admit the BH does look a lot like Fred Flintstone.

Now hold on now. He did say 3-5 years from competing in a BCS bowl.

Here's to you guys getting manhandled by Va Tech like you got manhandled by Miss St!

(Although I don't see that happening. Va Tech isn't that great really.)

Flock of crow because you backed your way into a BCS game? You just squeaked in since we all know the BCS is all about $$$, you were the natural pick. It wasn't because it was earned.

Frankly the top10 should be picked regardless of who they are.

PS: Now that URB is in town I bet you won't see another BCS game for those 4-5 years.

That's what happens when you overlook one of the weakest schedules in D1 football. You end up making bad predictions.

No, he said competing FOR BCS bowl games...

And FWIW, check my join date... I've been a (mostly) well-behaved member of this board for a long time. I don't come by to troll, but because I have ND in-laws, and I like to be able to hold up an intelligent conversation with them.

Do you disagree with my earlier assertion that if any of us posted something about "eating crow" on MGOBlog that we'd be banned in minutes?

Nah they don't ban they Negbang you into Oblivion. Mgoblog is a pretty decent place when the guys don't have their heads ballooned over a lucky season + backslide into BCS + easy opponent in said BCS game. There is a lot of good football knowledge over there and the humour is what keeps me coming back. The Kork Coupons Meme thread is a great example.

Michigan was certainly better than I thought, and I will eat crow.

Although their resume certainly isn't what I'd consider deserving of a BCS bid.

maison_bleu just changed my title to "B!tch Made". But he's such a well-behaved troll!

Man, I really love how tolerant we are around here! So when our team doesn't live up to expectations on the field, at least I have that sense of superiority to cling to.

I'm not a mod, and I don't speak for anyone but myself, but I know I'm not alone here. I post here to discuss ND football with other fans.

Getting subtly trolled by our resident scUM fans degrades my enjoyment of this posting community, and tolerating it doesn't prove a damn thing.

We need to shorten the leash on rivals who post here considerably.

Have you seen some of the posts our "fans" make? I welcome rivals to liven up debates.

Damn WJ.

In all honesty, I wouldn't know. For the most part, I avoid CFB boards, except for this one (because of my ND relatives) and an LSU one (tigerdroppings.com because I live in La). I get all the discussion of M football I care for with actual people that I know in real life.

Just to clarify...

You took the time and effort to sign up for one of your teams RIVALS board?

Yet, you don't even go to your own teams board?

You'd rather be on a LSU or ND fansite?

I actually think that is the definition of "trolling"
