Serious question, my knowledge of ND football only stretches back to the late 90s. Is this the worst ND performance you have ever witnessed?

Yes.

This has absolutely demolished any hope I had of this team being good any time in the near future.

Some USC games are up there but this is Navy that is destrying them and owning every facet of the game. Somebody tell me if you can think of a worse one.

At least USC had incredibly talented teams when they beat us down, and Syracuse was close. This is a blowout.

Yeah this sucks...but talk about overreacting to one game

Ill say the loss to cuse in 07. They were 1-9. Plus it just piled on an awful season.

And ill say oregon state in the bowl game years back when they got it stuck to them.

They were really bad today. Didn't seem like they realized they had a game today. So I don't think this is over reaction at all.

I'm just mad I dropped $!10 plus food and travel. Nd support was awesome. Its a shame.

SYRACUSE....we should have beaten them with our cheerleaders and the leprachaun. I don't care if it was a beatdown. Is he talking points scored or feeling the worst about a loss.

im talking about overall game.
yes,the loss to syracuse was terrible....but at least it was a close game.didnt they win on a last second field goal or something?
this game is a complete bloodbath.we never had a chance today.
how do u say u prepared for this all year and come out completely flat? pathetic.
this is the first time ive really questioned Kelly.

We lost by 26 to a 6-6 Syracuse team in 2003.

We lost to probably the worst Syracuse team in history in 2008.

There's probably a couple other losses that are worse than this.

It all depends on how you feel about Navy. The Middies are probably a psuedo-top 25 team with the guts to be a 8-10 win team right now.

We got our butt kicked by one of the best Navy teams of the last 50 years. That can't be as bad as losing to some truly, truly awful teams in recent years or being dominated to beyond all belief by USC and a couple others.

If you are talking about beatdowns, then this game is behind all of the shalackings we took to USC and Michigan in the past 10 years. There were quite a few 38-0 I remember.

Well, this is embarrassing. Couldn't watch after Navy scored 35 on us...

this is not even close to one of the worst games.....where do you guys come from? you crawl out from under a rock after a loss and scream like chicken little.

we got mauled by sc in 07, didn't get a 1st down until the 2nd half, THE 2ND HALF. We got our asses kicked by Syracuse.

And you wanna talk about heartbreak, how about in 93 when we lost to BC, maybe we got beat by 20 today, but Navy is a good team, maybe top 30, and are on a roll. We just hit a buzz saw today.

Thank you, finally someone who isn't a whiny loser. We lost to a good team, and it's your own problem if you don't realize that Navy has good players who play with passion. This is football...it's great because it's unpredictable, and today, Navy just played a great game. It's ridiculous to start crying and saying that we're never going to be good.

"History"? Not one of the "this is the worst ever" posters so far have any concept of ND prior to Charlie Weis apparently. No, it is not the worst loss ever.

2007: Air Force 41-24 much worse
2007: USC 38-0 brutal, even considering how much better USC was...the score flattered ND
2003: 38-12 vs. Syracuse (a 6-6 team)
1985: 35-17 vs. Purdue (a 5-6 team)

I witnessed all of these and as bad as today was...I think all of these were worse.

And if you want to go back before my time...how good could a 51-19 loss to Purdue in by the 2-8 1960 team be?

The 1985 final-stop-on-the-Faust-farewell-tour loss to Miami (58-7) was pretty bad. JJ piled on the points and my brother and I feared for our physical safety leaving that game.
Speaking of the 80's:
2010=1982
Navy=Air Force
Kelly-Faust
Crist=Kiel

I can remember few games where ND showed so little energy and emotion. The result doesn't bother me as much as the lack of pride I saw. From Kelly punting and conceding the game on the 4th and 3 to our O line failing to get a 1 foot push in the first, it felt like Navy hit us in the mouth and we decided we didn't want to fight back today.

So in terms of results, there have been worse. Ty got fired because of the consecutive USC beat downs. Syracuse was bad in 2008. I'm sure there are others...

But the lack of energy (I don't want to say effort, but...) today was terrible.

OK, well that one too. That was my intro to my favorite team and the start of my absolute hatred for Miami and Jimmy Johnson and all his company. Johnson was a part of the now defunct Southwest Conference. He now sells penis enlarging pills. But this game is equal to that one.

Kelly just got his **** handed to him. What does he do now? What does he say now? At least Faust could quit.

hahaha worst loss ever.....no, surprising it happened way back when people respected Notre Dame, Faust's final game, 57-7 against Miami. I always look to that game and think "three seasons after that we won a national championship"

At least that game set up the Catholics v Convicts rivalry. Though there was no way to know it at the time.

I mean, what. 3 or 4 years from now are we going to come back and...beat Navy? There's no room for redemption from this one.

Again, I beg to differ with everyone, and not about some game from the 1930s. My definition of a "worst game ever" is not about a "worst lost, feelings-wise" but about how the team actually functioned. For absolute incompetent looking performance, this wasn't within lightyears of practically any game we [euphemistically] "played" in Jimmy Clausen's first year.[ and that had very little to do with JC; it was a "team effort"]. I was so embarrassed by our non-functionality in those games that I was ashamed to talk football with any of my friends and they were nice enough to express their respects for "a fine institution which used to play football". Lord, quit creating threads like this to unearth such memories, when I'm trying to recover from today. Old Man is going to take another nap.
