Kelly Attitude Towards Media

I can't recall Charlie Weis being very media friendly. I don't even remember if he did a lot of interviews when he initially got hired.

Kelly has been the complete opposite. The man is everywhere(ESPN, radio interviews). I think this is a fresh breath of air. I think this guy understands he can't hide from the media and he knows he has to win them over.(Less stressful) Everytime I hear this guy I get more confident with him. He has a pretty good media personality. I hope that resonates with the recruits.

I hated Charlie Weis press conferences and his tv show(DULL) I actually can't wait for Kelly's tv show, it might not put me to sleep.

That's the big difference between their two backgrounds

Weis = belichick, parcells

Kelly = politics

Weis thought the media were a pain in the ass. Kelly sees the media as an asset

The hardcore football guys will spew "who cares about the press conference blah blah"

But it is a big deal. Weis liked to sit there and break down stats and names and approached every game like it was a math test.

He was pure NFL because in the NFL anybody can beat anybody it doesnt matter - youre all pro's.

This guy is a college coach as pure as it gets. Everything about him is college. Its a different angle. A different perspective.

Eh, I always felt Charlie got a bad rap for his media relations. The only guys who really despised him by the end were the national media guys who never really dealt with him. I heard an interview with the ND beat reporter for the Chicago Tribune I think it was, and he said Charlie was fine with the guys like him who he dealt with on pretty much a daily basis.

Never forget though, the national media hates anyone from the Belichek coaching tree, b/c of how secretive they all are all the time, and basically how hard they make the media work. They have to respect Bill b/c he wins and has 3 superbowl rings so there's only so much criticism they can get away with on him, but they'll take any chance they can get to destroy any of his disciples when they stumble b/c they don't want that paradigm of coaching/media relations to spread any more than it has.

In Kelly's hiring press conference he talked about how the media can put out bad information every once in awhile with current technology and bloggers. Kelly said that he tries to be open and accessible to the media so that all the right information gets out and people know what to believe.

He definitely knows how to use the media to his advantage and that will be a huge asset for ND.
