Darby is are biggest recruiter.

So was DeAnthony Thomas last year for USC. Didn't turn out so well.

Here's the thing with recruits: They LOVE being recruited, and they love the attention. Yes, it gets overbearing and so they try to end the over-attention (just look at ND - ISD, Scout, Rivals, 24/7, Lemming, 2-3 Chicago papers, SB Tribune, facebook, twitter, millions of fans, and then ND coaches - and that's just ONE team! Imagine 20-30 teams??? Holy crap!) by committing to a school they think they love without taking official visits.

And then when they commit, the attention slows down big time. No more phone calls. No more fans begging you to come to their school. No more love from all kinds of fan bases. But then you let it slip that you might trip to a school. Hello attention!!! And then you start thinking about those 5 free plane trips where you're treated like royalty, taken to the best parties, shown the flyest honies, etc etc, and you're like, "Why am I missing out on this??? Might as well enjoy this; it's the only time I'll ever be able to do it."

And then guys let it be known that they want to take visits, but they're still 100% committed LOL. And so the circus continues.

Not saying that Darby is thinking this - just saying, a lot of guys think this, trust me, and you'll see it happen all over the country. Just the way things are...

He isnt going anywhere.......as of now....He is very solid in his verbal to ND. He isnt a kid looking for a headline, or a kid that doesnt have a plan. I would be shocked if he changed his mind. Of course there will be rumors with a CB with his speed no matter where he verbals, ND is just ND. I expect him to go on some visits with teammates or friends, but I mean who wouldn't want to go on free trips lol

UNC is not going to get the ban hammer that you think. Their list excludes the "Loss of institutional control" and according to Stewart Mandel:

Otherwise, investigators apparently felt the school did the best possible job it could in monitoring its rogue defensive line coach/agent runner;

Not true. At all. Just because there is no LOIC doesn't mean football won't get absolutely hammered (which it will).

my first dump in the pants of the recruiting cycle. if ND takes care of biz on the field this nonsense should all sort itself out. i'm debating whether or not i should buy a box of diapers for this recruiting cycle, thoughts?

No need for Depends time this around. I doubt we lose more than one, if that, and I don't think either of our headliners are going anywhere.

Still worries that UM is pulling in all these guys though. If we end up with in a DOOM scenario this fall does that mean our class is going to tank?

PS: Lack of Institutional Control is what you do not want on your allegations list from the NCAA. I don't expect UNC to get hammered at all like USC or tOSU.

Good but short article about Keith Marshall and Ronald Darby going heads up in the 100m. Nothing too juicy, except the fact Marshall beat Darby by .05.

They are not mentioned until about halfway down the article.

Ran across this from an UNC site. A couple of weeks old but they like their chances.

Scout.com: 'Good Chance' Darby Officials with UNC

Old news posted in this thread about 3 weeks ago. Several people provided links to IrishIllustrated and ISD articles where Darby's coach said, "He's still firmly committed to ND." He also explained the Darby accompanied several of his teammates on that trip and they saw the 3 different colleges.

Here's the link to WhiskyJack's post with the ISD article (a freeie). Read it and relax. With their current NCAA troubles Tar Heels fans are grasping at anything to get their mind off sanctions. I wouldn't be surprised to read an article announcing (according to highly placed anonymous sources in the UNC Athletic Department) that Joe Paterno has agreed to be the Coach-In-Waiting at UNC as soon as the NCAA is through, so UNC can get new blood in the program.

Wasn't presenting as new info, just a UNC perspective. I've read the thread. I have several friends that are UNC alums, all of them are ready for Butch Davis to move on but it doesn't look too likely.

UNC is going to have a tough time pulling a guy like Darby with a great deal of uncertainty looming in their program. Will Butch Davis be fired?? Will the NCAA come down on them with sanctions?? These are two huge clouds looming that will make it tough for big time recruits to choose a place like UNC.

Not necessarily.

Kids make rash decisions.

I just hope and pray this kid doesn't have second thoughts, a la Stephon Tuitt.

My heart couldn't take it.

I don't see any chance he goes to UNC. In fact, I think they'll have a real tough time recruiting kids this year... they might get a couple 4* kids but they'll likely be the kinds of kids interested in a duffle bag of cash.

Darby's decision?

To visit?

Why would that sway his decision to visit?

If Domino's went bankrupt, would you gag yourself the last bite?

If for some reason this happens, and I stop posting, don't weep for me.

I will be in a better place.

Who said the NCAA is coming down on UNC today? Not true.

ND15, I'm going to give you a little bit of advice. Don't take it the wrong way, but for a while, you should read more, post less. In a little over 2 days, you have 40 posts, and a lot of them you have your facts wrong or you don't really know what's going on (i.e. didn't know Cam Roberson was hurt, got the Cams confused, didn't know about the UNC allegations, now saying UNC will be hammered today, you have know idea about Darby, the whole 'SEC would get hammered by ND', your Navy argument, etc etc.). I'm not saying don't post your opinions, but if you read through the threads more, a lot of your questions will be answered and you'll be a lot more knowledgeable regarding the team and college football as well.

Just saying, people will appreciate your takes a whole lot more if they didn't have to correct you so much, and they will happily answer your questions when the answers aren't already in the threads themselves. Happy 4th...

And this is how rumors start. Unless you have some inside info on Darby ...I would suggest not making a comment like this. In the thread no one indicates a de-commitment-they do talk about a potential visit....however, a visit does not constitute a de-commitment.

Not possible. UNC has to go in front of the committee to explain the Notice of Allegations and that is usually 90 days after a school receives them. Then there is usually 2 or 3 months for the NCAA to review everything before handing down sanctions.

I feel like the better the team gets the less these types of things will loom with recruits. I honestly don't even think this is much of a situation at all.

But, when ND starts reeling off 10-12 win seasons and playing for titles, there won't be much wavering.

Kids want to come to ND. They love the tradition, the atmosphere, the education. when ND wins, recruiting will be off the hook.

Darby is still one of NDs biggest advocates and rest assured the coaches will be in his ear. I'd take all officials if I could too. We have all season to put up Ws and it will all work out.
