i would never wanna see that dirty mendenhall fuck at ND, are you kidding me?!?!

i think Stoops will accept, and i like Stoops, so good.

if something unexpected happens with the Stoops deal, Kelly will surely accept. have you seen how flustered he gets when people ask him about ND talking to him. he is so excited about the opportunity he probably jizzed in his pants just at the thought of being considered for the job.

Yeah, and I'm sure Charlie Weis' reactions was the same as Kelly's will be. And look where we are five years later. its not about wanting the job, its can you do the job and meet the expextations? No more five year experiments.

he might have culture shock when he sees half his schedule isnt ranked ouside the top 100.

he will actually have to try to get his team up once in a while.

wait...forget i said that...i just looked at the second half of ND's 2010 schedule.

Patterson should be just wonderful.

TCU had a 3 point win, a 4 point win, and then their next closest were 16 and 25. They do get up for every game.

Not for nothing, but you have to measure *everything* Brian Kelly says with a grain of salt. The man is a polished politician (even worked for Gary Hart, at one point) and his words always seem calculated to push towards some greater goal -- even when you think he's being off the cuff and shooting straight.

Right now every indication is that he's playing both sides of the aisle -- letting ND know he'd be open but also working with Cincinnati on a deal that capitalizes on their fear of losing him to a bigger program.

There's some other stuff that I'd rather not delve too deeply into (mostly because I don't know how much is public) that would give him reason not to pull up roots from Cincinnati. Nothing strong enough to preclude him from leaving for Notre Dame if he decided to, but things that people close to him feel would weigh in his mind.

Titled edited so people don't feel the need to start 100 threads about it.

So, this almost certainly means the deal is already done for the next coach, correct?

Can anyone believe ND would handle this coaching change like they handled the last two? If so, I'm going to start watching Europeans play soccer...

I think this will ultimately be a horrible decision as both Stoops and Kelly will turn us down, we'll be left without a homerun hitter

You're definitely entitled to your opinion, but I don't think both (if either) will turn us down. Plus, I'm in the school of thought that an agreement was already in place with someone before we made the decision to fire Weis publically.

On another note, George O'Leary is a home run hitter compared to CW.

For Immediate Release

Weis will not be retained as Notre Dame football coach

University of Notre Dame head football coach Charlie Weis will not be retained, University director of athletics Jack Swarbrick announced today (Nov. 30).

“We have great expectations for our football program, and we have not been able to meet those expectations,” Swarbrick said. “As an alumnus, Charlie understands those goals and expectations better than most, and he’s as disappointed as anyone that we have not achieved the desired results.”

Swarbrick recommended the dismissal Sunday night to Notre Dame’s president, Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C.

“We have established an evaluation process for all of our athletic programs that, in the end, results in a recommendation from Jack to me,” Father Jenkins said. “I accepted Jack’s decision and look forward to working with him on selecting a new head football coach who is the very best choice possible for the University and especially for our student-athletes.

“I am most appreciative to Coach Weis for his service to Notre Dame and our community. He and his family have my prayers and best wishes.”

Weis spent five seasons as Irish head coach from 2005-09, with his teams achieving consecutive records of 9-3 (Fiesta Bowl appearance) in ’05, 10-3 (Sugar Bowl appearance), 3-9, 7-6 (Hawai’i Bowl victory) and 6-6 in ’09 – for an overall 35-27 mark.

Swarbrick announced that Rob Ianello, the Irish assistant head coach/offense, wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator, will assume responsibility for football operations until a new coach is hired. Ianello has spent the past five seasons on the Notre Dame staff and previously was part of football staffs at Wisconsin (1990-93, 2003-04), Arizona (1994-2002) and Alabama (1987-89).
