There have been some queries about how this young superman will fit into our defense. If we remember that Coach is like a chessmaster, he will move pieces to their most powerful and useful positions.
I am going to take seriously all the commentary we've heard about his excellence at edge rushing and forget the current physical measurables [I've seen far too many incidents of players, who don't fit traditional dogma but who will completely kill you on the field, to bother about that].
That said: this player is apparently a smaller version of Ishaq. When Fleming graduates, Ishaq and Perkins can man this CAT position. That will free Rabasa to take control of a position on the two deep somewhere at ILB. We have two years of Te'o and then no obviously proven stud anywhere in the middle. We're making do now with Fox and Calabreese and maybe they'll be great, but it's far from obvious.
We are also overloaded at Dog. Of those three, [Spond, Shembo, Councell], Shembo seems the best likelihood to seek stardom in the middle or at Cat. If one tries to get all one's studs on the field, two years of Te'o in the rearview mirror, how about Spond/Shembo/Rabasa/Williams and Diaco yelling "Shift!!" and in come Councell/Grace/Moore/ and Perkins??
Most of that is BS of course, but Perkins at Cat seems to bode well for Rabasa to the middle.
