I'm imagining something like this, except with Kiel/ DGB instead of Maude.

big-lebowski-dream.jpg

I don't understand how male/female skate partners don't slam each other in passionate heat every 10 minutes at practice..

Did I just type that out loud?

I wouldn't know. I was just a damn stupid football guy who enjoyed slamming his head against moving...other guys who want to kill me... I never got into the butt slapping thingy.

Awesome pick-up. Congradulations to Mr. Perkins. Not really a big suprise here but still a very solid pick-up.

We heard a lot last year about how Ishaq Williams and Ben Councell are the prototypes for Cat and Dog OLBs respectively, mainly due to their combination of height, range, and speed. We also heard a lot about how Kelly's staff has a physical profile for each position that heavily influences who they offer in the first place (see: Joe Bolden).

Then you have LBs like Shembo, Rabasa, and now Perkins, none of which are particularly tall and rangy, but they're such versatile athletes that the staff apparently feels their flexibility justifies breaking from the physical profile for OLB.

My earlier comments were not a knock on Perkins. I'm merely trying to figure out how Kelly recruits, and it appears that flexibility trumps his ideal physical profile; at least at OLB.

I was about to bring up this exact topic until I saw you had beat me to it. I'm curious too as to how this staff picks and chooses. The Joe Bolden example was a perfect one - in that he claimed the staff didn't want him because he was too short (they're both 6'2"). With that said, I agree that flexibility, speed, and talent will trump a "prototype" height every time. I found a couple quotes in an article from NDNation regarding profiling:

“Kelly wants defensive ends that have long arms and are in the 6’4″ range; he also wants 6’6″ offensive tackles. If a player doesn’t make the profile, he has to have a compelling factor or intangibles that override the profile."

Kelly states, "Big skill is profiling out, if I could take 20 guys who are tough gentlemen who fit the profile at Notre Dame academically and were 6-foot-4, 215 or 220 pounds, you’d never be able to track whose playing where.”

With that said, Perkins must posses some of those compelling factors mentioned above. Happy to have him aboard. Excited to see him get out there and bring that swagger back to ND. Congrats David!

But, what about the skater thingy?

Hey, how about being my first guest on our new show?

NO, wait a minute I see it now, a recurring role. After all the Captain had Mr. Moose.

What you think Johnny? How about you NDFnSW?

Big ups to whichever mod got Perkins added to the 2012 Commitment List so quickly, but Perkins is showing identical height, weight, and speed to Darby at the moment.

The only man that can do that is Jason Pham.

Send your compliments to him.

Awesome. Sounds like David wanted Notre Dame, as bad as we wanted him.

Wish I could have heard Johnny's call. Stupid school. Just one more day.

And happy birthday Alamo!

Good work Phammer on getting him up and going.

He will. I'm glad he got his name up. It would help if someone got his stats from his profile and shot them to Phammer in a convenient pm.

I'm game. It would be great to bring big personalities from IE to a weekly show. It would be even greater if we could bring in an athlete every now and again as a guest speaker.

The link still works buddy. Bogtrotter comes on right after me. Just go back a page or two. You'll find it.

I had little to say. Adrenaline was flowing. I'm a decent public speaker. But for some reason, Allen completely caught me off guard.

Yes, sir. Freaking snowdays. Tomorrow I only go for two classes though. The rest of the day I believe will be filled with a senior class water balloon fight and other games. Should be fun.

Oh, if that's the case, yay! I will definitely have to hear what the two of you said.

There have been some queries about how this young superman will fit into our defense. If we remember that Coach is like a chessmaster, he will move pieces to their most powerful and useful positions.

I am going to take seriously all the commentary we've heard about his excellence at edge rushing and forget the current physical measurables [I've seen far too many incidents of players, who don't fit traditional dogma but who will completely kill you on the field, to bother about that].

That said: this player is apparently a smaller version of Ishaq. When Fleming graduates, Ishaq and Perkins can man this CAT position. That will free Rabasa to take control of a position on the two deep somewhere at ILB. We have two years of Te'o and then no obviously proven stud anywhere in the middle. We're making do now with Fox and Calabreese and maybe they'll be great, but it's far from obvious.

We are also overloaded at Dog. Of those three, [Spond, Shembo, Councell], Shembo seems the best likelihood to seek stardom in the middle or at Cat. If one tries to get all one's studs on the field, two years of Te'o in the rearview mirror, how about Spond/Shembo/Rabasa/Williams and Diaco yelling "Shift!!" and in come Councell/Grace/Moore/ and Perkins??

Most of that is BS of course, but Perkins at Cat seems to bode well for Rabasa to the middle.

Don't rule out Boom being in the backfield. We have to realize this was his first year at running back and averaged over 9 ypc and he is still learning the position.

"Coach Kelly and his staff have proven to me that Notre Dame will provide me with more than a 4 year commitment. Instead, Notre Dame offers me a four year plan for a successful life"

- David Perkins

Well said, young man. This kid is the epitome of a RKG.

Btw, somebody link Johnny and Bogtrotter. I am stupid and cannot find the link.
