That is Classic.... During the Sun Bowl I kept yelling Vamos IRISH... and one Miami fan looked at me , wearing a ninja mask and my ND sombrero and said, "that is racist" I looked over to him and said....Viva la resistance mi amigo

in his first year, UM's defense was one of the worst ever at michigan.

in his second year, it was hostorically bad, the worst ever statistically...it couldnt get any worse, right?

in his 3rd year, the defense gets even worse, landing only a few spots from #120 out of 120 teams.

just because he is "an offensive guy" doesnt mean he is not responsible for all phases of the team. he is the head coach. in keeping DC robinson after year 2, he failed in this area.

additionally, his offense really struggled when they played some of the better defenses.

on balance, that just isnt my definition of progress.

Only reason I mentioned the eyes is that I was kinda surprised when I found out both Barry and Rodriguez are Spanish (not Mexican) with greenish eyes, and my father's side is Spanish with greenish eyes. No big whoop.

It's like the guy simply stopped recruiting defensive players. And knowing what we know now, he doesn't seem like he coached defense at all.

Everyone's talking about how bad the talent level was when he got there. Come on now...sure it wasn't national championship caliber, but it was decent.

That can't hide the fact that he's recruited one impact defensive player over three+ seasons. Even Charlie Weis could do better than that.

He and the Weis deal are very much the same. If Wies would have hired a good defenseive cord he would probably still be here same goes for Rich. But oh well it is to late fore that.

But if this stops the Frost kid, Lyons, Karlos Williams, Deion Barnes from going there and Zettel from flipping...good. If it "forces" Robinson to transfer, even better. That kid was their whole team this year.

Looking at next years schedule, there is a good chance we will face 4 teams in transition (Michigan, Pitt, Maryland, Stanford) all of which are on the road. The only other road games are at Wake and Purdue. If we win all our road games and can win 4 or 5 at home...(gotta stop the stereotypical ND fan in me)

HMMM seems to me I remember not so long ago when a man named Tyrone Willingham was hired to coach ND, and then was fired. I also distinctly remember several Michigan fans and parts of their coaching staff made comments about how ND was making a jerk move because you can't possibly judge a coach by three seasons, and it "wasn't enough time". They also said that ND would regret it and blah blah blah. ND was the source of several jokes, and I took a lot of flack being an Irish fan.

But my my my how the tide has turned. RRod has a bum season and it's....wait for it....OFF WITH HIS HEAD!!! Sound familiar? I can't stand U of M, and I hope they suck for the next 20 yrs, just because they are arrogant.

I think they both prove that you can't simply hire a D coordinator and expect him to fix all of the defensive problems.

Sometimes it works if you give the guy time and he has some talent to work with. But UM switched coordinators after RR's first season and Weis had 3 in 5 year's was it?

You simply can't build a strong defense when there are that many different teachers for that short of time.

Went from 3 wins to 5 wins to 7 wins with bad defenses. The guy was going in the right direction record wise but couldn't touch MSU or Ohio State (big no-no in Ann Arbor).

2/3 of his scholarships went to the offensive side of the ball.

Buy out went from 4.5 million to 2.5 million after January 1st.
