With all due respect I don't think trulyblessed was referring directly to you. I'm sure it was more of a comment based on the many posts that have been on this site.... I know you want us to win as quick as possible, and we all have been patient for years, but bottom line is we have mad the choice to go with a new coaching staff and a new system, it just makes sense that it's going to take A LITTLE longer to get thugs where we allllll want them. IT IS COMING THOUGH!

If you don't mind me asking. What do you mean by "thugs"?

Wait a sec...you're a Red Sox fan and you're upset at the length of time ND football has been mediocre? If I am not mistalen, did't the Red Sox have a little lag time in their history?

(Not meant to tick you off, just noticed the big B there and it made me chuckle when I thought about it)

NDOM..., Are you a colts fan? I have been a die hard Notre Dame fan for 35 years, and have been a colts fan since 1984 when they relocated to Indy. The reason why I ask and bring this up, For so many years, I watched the colts fail, fail and fail again miserably for so many years. Then things changed, and they have been good now for many years. As for ND, It has been so painful over the last several years, and I also along with so many fans on here are tired of waiting.., but we have to.., our day will come and we will be contenders for years to come. We have been disappointed for so many years, and I understand the mentality that we all want to win now. Don't give up on this team just yet. We will lose a couple more this year..., but I think by the season's end, we will be happy with the improvement over the course of the season. I think we have a chance to win against Stanford..., Will we do it? I don't know.., but I think it will be a good game and maybe, just maybe we can pull off a good win. I think everyone on here wants the same thing. I'm frustrated but I still believe in this team, and I have to remind myself over and over again that this is a new coaching staff, new system and it will take longer to achieve what we all want..., and that is to be contenders every year, and to win the close games when it counts. Our time is coming..., Hopefully sooner rather than later! GO IRISH! Keep the faith!

Yes I am a colts fan. This is why its so hard. All of my teams I grew up LOVING have sucked for so loooooong. Colts are good yeah, but it took FOREVER, same with my Sox now they are a lot better, but it just seems different with ND football, its like theres no hope. So frustrating. I hope I'm still alive when ND supposedly will be elite again. Sheesh.

I knew we werent gonna be great this year but how many dumb close games can we lose on a yearly basis????

Remember the root word of Fanaticism is Fan. Let us not get too wrapped up on how people respond to adversity as fans.

Sports fanaticism - high levels of intensity surrounding sporting events. This is either done based on the belief that extreme fanaticism can alter games for one's favorite team (Ex: Knight Krew)[3], or because the person uses sports activities as an ultra-masculine "proving ground" for brawls, as in the case of football hooliganism.

I don't agree with "the sky is falling" pundits for these reasons: I personally saw us winning 7-9 games this season with new systems in place, a QB making his first start with ZERO playing experience behind him, and a Defense with talent on paper but with previous experience lacking in success. Take a deep breath, exhale everyone, on to Stanford.

Hang in there NDOM. I know exactly how you feel. I also get so darned frustrated with ND at times, and I am frustrated now. I really do have faith though that we are in the process of changing this thing around. I hope for and wish nothing but success for this team. I think we finally have the right tools in place now. I am more optimistic about the next few years as I have felt in a very long time. I might be too optimistic here, but I still see a decent season this year. I hate to say this but it will be the next couple of years that we should see a huge difference. I think a big problem the last several years is the lack of player and talent development. You need a good system and good coaches to develop kids. You can be the most talented athlete in the world, but with poor coaching, you just wont see greatness. I think as we develop these kids under Coach Kelly's system we will be pleasantly surprised. Look at what he did with half of the talent he has now while at Cinncy. I will continue to believe and hope for the best, that we will right this ship.

Clearly then, you read at least one of the 100+ posts that have gone up so far making the exact same point. So you're right, posting on this board is a bad idea, until you have something original or helpful to say.

Great comeback bud!!! Really like the enthusiasm shown toward your faithful Irish co-followers!!

I think everyone can agree that NDOM needs to pump the breaks here. But, in his defense, isn't saying exactly what you think the very purpose of an internet forum? It's the one forum where an individual can write whatever he or she wants with little repurcussion. So if NDOM wants to vent, I say have at it. Everyone reacts to losses differently, and it's much better he get it out of his system here than in everyday public.

I agree with this statement. ND needs to win BCS game now. They fired Weis, OK, but that doesnt change anything, doesnt 'push back' the BCS game expectation. All that did was turn up the heat on the new/next coach, which happened to be BK. Any coach that took, or takes the ND job knows what he is up against. Its part of what makes winning at ND so great; its one thing to deliver when there is no pressure on you, but its something entirely different when the entire country is watching and expecting you to win.

Boy was I wrong. After one post and a few scans over the board I am dumbfounded.

As far as the emotional posting on this board, keep in mind alot of (from what I have read) stems from the 'live game threads' that happen during the game. I look at the live game threads as kind of 'free for all' posting. Dont surprised what you see/read in those threads, its a place to be irrational, emotional, opinionated, etc. A place to blurt out things that may not make logical sense if you think it thru; but when your at a game live, and totally into the game, you may be saying those same things to your buddies that you went to the game with. Instead of those things being said, they are posted here in those live gameday threads.

Typically thats what those threads are about, but this week was especially brutal. Think about how ND lost the game, and now being 1-2, the questionable calls, growing pains with a new coach/system, combine that with the anguish of the last 14 years...on top of all that, Neutered got banned!!!!

Its been a tough week at IE.....and Stanford is coming to town, looking to sock ND in the mouth.

eh, I only kind of agree with this. I think if Weis were still here, there would be absolutely no reason that BCS shouldn't be in the picture. As it is, a coach's first year is just that. Is there pressure to win? Sure. But they had to take a step or two back as an inevitable result of the regime change. Next year there are no excuses left.

It is not so much the losses that have people coming unglued

It is not so much the losses that have people coming unglued

it is the unrealistic expectations. BK is in the middle of a big time rebuilding project right now. People expecting a 10+win season and a BCS spot were thinking with their hearts and not their heads.

I think there is a pretty good mix of opinions right now, all of which have substance. The problem is that people are getting too hot about their opinions and acting a bit foolishly towards their counterparts. The losses have unwound some people, but most will be grounded again shortly, if they aren't already. It's the passion that gets to every one of us. We are just looking for answers in different directions, but ultimately, come Saturday, we'll all be cheering for the Irish.

Only been here a few days but

Only been here a few days but

From what I have seen so far, the folks here are able to have discussions without the idiotic junior high locker room banter found on others like the UHND board.

I hope you find the perfect ND site out there, when you do, come back and let me know.

this is the best nd board. good people and great board. sometimes it gets heated around here but thats to be expected when you have this many personalities together.

Agreed. I was just looking out for his health (lowering his blood pressure) by suggesting that he turn to his other hobby for a while.

This is easily the best message board that I am apart off.

A lot of good opinions and people actually respond to posts instead of just writing whatever is on their mind.

Also, it is well organized and a new thread isn't opened for every little thing which is very nice and makes it easy to read.

A lot of great posters and a good mix of homers and realists to get good info and feel good about ND at the same time!

The way the term "hot" is being used has gone out of control. Case in point, Katy Perry. Seriously? Its become my biggest pet peave. My first love is still Cindy Crawford, she is the like lava compared to your "hot" And now back to football.

Go Irish!

I have personal ties to Manti. This is why you will see me defend him when I think he is being judged unfairly especially like this season. When Manti chose ND this is the first forum that came up when I googled. I read the other boards too but this is the only board I felt I wanted to post in. Every board has the same irrational, emotional posting after a loss. Die hard fans so consumed in their anguish that they target anyone and everyone to blame for why the team "sucks." The sad thing is that we forget that these are sons, grandsons and nephews.

I felt very very bad for Zeke Motta these last two games. You can see the kid giving it his last ounce just to pick himself up off the ground on Saturday. Yet on numerous boards I see "fans" literally ****ting on the kid for his bad angles and missed tackling. Carlo fans sound extremely familiar to last year's Manti fans. They overlooked Manti's mistakes and praised him for being ferocious and the second coming. Now Carlo is that player but no mention of his mistakes or that he always seems to play the side with little space. Pretty familiar and predictable if you ask me. Personally I think all the players are great but I cannot see what the coaches see to keep ones like Filer off the field.

No one here is a moron but everyone here is a fan! Just remember to have patience and tolerance as some fans are more passionate and critical than others. Nothing wrong with that but if we are adults we should all sure act like it...myself included

May be the best post I ever read. I couldn't believe some of the things I saw posted, but I took them for what they were, someone else's opinion.

I did get a laugh out of someone suggesting that we move Teo to OLB, and everyone has us recruiting one-hundred-fifty defensive ends this year. (Lot of 'em are moving to OLB in college.) But hell, we'll have to all get together and have a beer or twenty; then it won't seem as bad.

I guess this is as good of place as any for my perspective: when you are fighting a war, a skirmish with scouts does not the battle conclude, or make. It hasn't but started. Everybody hang together!

Rich Rodriguez was 3-8 in his first year at West Virginia (9-4 the next)

Kirk Ferentz was 1-10 in his first year at Iowa (3, 7, 11 wins in the next three)

Bobby Petrino was 5-7 in his first year at Arkansas (8-5 the next, currently ranked #10)

Jim Tressel was 7-5 in his first year at Ohio State (14-0 the next)

Nick Saban was 7-6 in his first year at Alabama (12-2 the next)

Lou Holtz was 5-6 in his first year at Notre Dame (followed by 8-4 and 12-0)

Bob Stoops was 7-5 in his first year at Oklahoma (13-0 the next)

Heck, Jo Pa was 5-5 in his first year at Penn State (albeit during the Lyndon B. Johnson administration)

There are people like Urban Meyer, Les Miles, and Mack Brown who came in and had immediate success. But, they are the exception.

This is why I can be patient this year...that, and we're still only 3 games into the season.
