If he lost the play-calling, what does he do anyway? I wish him the best, but CW has to bring in a true offensive coordinator who knows what they are doing. I'm not sure CW does himself.

I hope Haywood gets the job and turns that program around. I also hope we can find another play-calling Offensive Coordinator so we can turn our offense into an unstopable, high scoring machine.

Don't we play Washington next year? We should have a good idea of what he's going to do!

Yeah thats interesting, it'd be a good time for him to go just as long as it doesn't affect Cierre Wood's decision...I don't think we bring in a new O-coordinator..our guys know the system now. Bringing in a new scheme would be great but it also could take a few games to get it down..at least. I think CW calls plays for as long as he's here.

Good luck to him, but that's going to be an undesireable position for a few years. It may take more than 3-4 years to turn it around.

If Lane Kiffin interviews for it and wants it, my guess would be he gets offered first. he's a proven OC with previous Pac-10 conf experience.

Best wishes to Haywood. Kinda hope he stays at ND and see his work pay off, but you gotta take the chance.

Great posts here by the way.

I wish Haywood all the best. I would hate to see him leave ND on less than stellar note, but he should give it a good shot. Death in the family, interview for a new job, plus all his regular coaching and family duties - wow! Lots of prayers goin' his way!

Mike Haywood to interview for Washington and Syracuse jobs?

Mike Haywood to interview for Washington and Syracuse jobs?

I heard on ESPN Radio tonight that Mike Haywood was off interviewing for the head coaching position at Syracuse and Washington. I guess this explains his extended "Personal Reasons" absence. I don't expect to see him on the sideline this weekend. Interesting how much cache being an assistant at ND can bring, even though the jury is out on how well he has performed. This should open the discussion on possible replacements. This might sound sacrilegious but what about the old USC assistant Lane Kiffin?

I'd take him, but won't happen. IF Kiffin would come back to the college level, I'm sure it would be a head coach position.

I know Haywood has been less then average as an OC but he is a good recruiter especially when it comes to RB's. It is not a coincidence that we have so much depth at that position! He will be missed and I just hope it does not effect the Cierra Woods commitment!!!!

Hawyood might be involved in recruiting the running backs, but that's not how ND recruits.

ND coaches recruit geographically. Haywood's area is Texas and probably the surrounding states.

Ianello is the one who recruits California and the west coast. He is the one who mainly recruited Woods and Evans. I don't think if Haywood left, it would have much affect on Woods' commitment.

On a side note, the year after Haywood left LSU, they won the National Championship. Year after he left Texas, same thing.

Hawood left last week for good, he got into a argument with Weis about the playcalling stuff and walked...he picked up the rest of his stuff from his office today.

Interesting...hopefully this doesn't impact Wood and others..you have to like your position coach cuz thats who your going to interact with more than any other coach (obviously). I think Wood stays true...doesn't Polian also recruit Cali? He was instramental in landing Evans.

Zooy,
How did you get this info?? Were you the fly on the wall??
As for Haywood, I wish him the best in whatever he ends up doing. He is an ND guy and we wish him best.
As for the future at Offensive Co. I see CW getting a guy who runs similar O to our current, but has experience calling plays and brings some creativity. I am thinking some hot coach at a mid-major school.
By the way, can Haywood give Latina a ride out of town.

Haywood is a prick actually, have you talked to him?

He likes the ladies....

Nonetheless, just trying to help with the info, you can hate me I guess...

I would love to see Tom Clements join the team next year, he has always wanted to come back to ND, just don't know if he would as a OC and not a head coach

Maybe the ladies like him. Not quite a sin to be liked.

As an ignorant fan (who is attempting to learn), it seems to me either he was publicly railroaded and had no choice but to leave, or he had too many better options.

Anyone taking over the UDub job is crazy, and better get a massive contract.

IF he leaves, Clements would be a great addition. I would vote for Clements for next head coach, after CW gets tired. CW does not seem to be tired yet.

I don't see Charlie being one to let someone go during the season. But I guess I will wait and see if your info is correct.
