Can you imagine how pissed teams will be to draw ND as their "9th" game that could get them left out of their conference title game? We're talking about a whole new era of ND hatred...

ACC should require teams to play 10 P4 / ND games to keep up SOS. Counting ND is too clunky.

In exchange we should demand that conference standings be determined by winning percentage, not total wins, so that if we beat them all we go to the conference title game, win the ACC, and take their automatic playoff bid. They'll love that.

As long as they don't already have a P4 ooc, i.e., not UF, UGA or SCar.

Can't see those schools dropping FSU, Ga Tech or Clemson off the schedule for ND.

If the playoff evaluation truly becomes who you beat, ND may play an important role as one of the few teams that will play opponents in multiple P4 conferences allowing some cross comparison.

We need access to scheduling so I am hoping playing ND remains a good thing for opponents. I sort of feel like maybe the SEC can use competition against ND to put a thumb in the B1G's eye.

I think there has been an effort on the Big 10s part to try and squeeze ND out and force them to join a conference. Mainly because they think if they do it will be them. Not that I want the SC series to fall apart, but their would be a certain poetic justice about them bowing out because it's too difficult while Notre Dame replaces them with Clemson. Would also be great if early reports are true and this solidifies the SEC/ND scheduling relationship. We'd continue to get to see marquee matchups in fun locales, meanwhile Penn St fans and their coach can scream about ND needing to join a conference during their annual OOC slate against the sisters of the poor

If USC ends the series, it has nothing to do with super conferences or USC's tough schedule. It is entirely them being scared. USC played a killer schedule in the Pete Carroll era, and when they were killing us they didn't try to drop the game, even when one loss could cost a team a championship chance. Now that we've won 9 out of 12, it's suddenly too hard to fit on the schedule.

One could argue USC is the biggest single reason FOR the current round of superconference consolidation to begin with. If they don't jump to the Big 10, the Pac-12 continues along just fine, and the Big 10 doesn't become this giant megalith that's trying to gobble up the sport to justify its TV deal. But USC got greedy for TV money and games televised in the Midwest and East.

Now, boo-hoo, USC's actually in a conference with other comparable powers, and has to make a few plane trips. You're absolutely right that, love him or hate him, Pete Carroll wouldn't be scared. But Riley is. Whatever. They made their bed, they should lay in it, and get pounded by us every year.

I'm salivating at the thought of Narduzzi getting even more pissed off at ND from being locked out of the ACC title game due to a loss to the Irish.

Pretty funny, a lot of replies are talking about these teams (Michigan in particular) following the ND model of success and going Independent. "B1G needs us more than we need the B1G." How funny would it be that ND rose to national recognition and popularity by being independent and scheduling all over the country, and it was a direct result of Michigan black balling us from the old B1G/Western Conference...only to have Michigan join us decades later? It's not gonna happen, but it would be hilarious.

NDSU football is going to be on life support in a decade if it does not get invited to FBS. Attendance has fallen from 95-100% consistent butts in seats to 60-70% unless South Dakota State or North Dakota are in town. Student section went from 3800 seats spoken for by Monday of game week at 8:15AM to maybe 1000 showing up on Saturdays. The median NDSU fan at the games is probably a 60 year old alum and his/her spouse. Fifteen years ago the median fan was probably a 35-40 year old man with a buddy or his kid tagging along for $40-50/head.

Success in early 10's brought back a ton of money/interest to the football program. Season tickets that were perfect for a ~30 year old alum and his kids went from a couple hundred bucks a seat to a thousand dollars a seat. Basically the "normie" types that a school relies on to be the current generation and raise the next generation of fans got froze out, disengaged or got used to watching from home on TV.

Not sure an invite is going to come. Being an outlier makes it difficult. Would probably be a pretty solid Boise State type of school (take leftovers from nearby P4 states like Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska) if the invite comes.

The flex is essentially what the Bracket Buster series was in College Basketball...it will have no impact on the conference title as it will be decided who plays in that the week before - it is just the ability to showcase the best the league/conference has one last time to draw eyeballs.

The flex game has got to be a thing in all these conferences, can’t half five teams from one conference when they largely didn’t play each other

And why would the SEC and Big Ten want that?
