Would not be a positive for us.

I've given up on trying to predict what's positive because the unintended consequences have surprised me at every turn of this thing. (I do agree it looks bad though. Would further limit available game slots and seems to indicate that the SEC and B1G want to play nice with each other in tearing up the sport.)

At least Texas and Bama don't have out of conference rivals. The Florida series and any potential one versus Georgia or South Carolina (theoretical) would be impossible now, functionally.

Kentucky too, I guess. I suppose this might make a series with Miami more likely, though likely not to the same extent of the Clemson 12 year run

From a neutral viewer perspective, the big non-conference games are one of the best parts of the sports. Have to assume to the TV partners are pushing this.

The rumored B10 v SEC “challenge” would really fuck us more than this.

The long-term Clemson deal was always a hedge against this stuff. We don’t also need a long-term series with Miami too, at that point we might as well just join the ACC in full.

Man I do not understand this logic at all. I personally think it's crazy that Miami has been able to duck ND since the start of the ACC contract. Plenty of ND fans still hate the U and would like to play them more often. We're not talking about adding on either of the Techs or Wake, this is frigging Miami! I'd relish the opportunity to see Marcus & co drag their low down raggedy behinds up and down the field, while also getting a bump in SOS (to the CFP).

We should play Miami as often, ideally a little more often, as we play every other ACC team within our existing ACC deal. I don’t understand either how they’ve managed to duck us so often.

I just don’t want to get locked into playing Clemson and Miami (and Stanford?) every year bc we can’t schedule SEC or B1G teams anymore. At that point we’re basically just an ACC team.

We know exactly why, Miami is soft.

Drop the Stanford series tbh. The ACC already has promised FSU/Clemson that ND would cycle through their schedules more often so they get a larger payout, just tell them Miami needs to stop ducking trips to South Bend and be part of the ACC 5 game cycle.

Big Ten gets its wish. They successfully gaslit everyone into ruining CFB even more

ACC will move to 9 soon after. Say goodbye to a few more rivalries more than likely

As long as we can still get the guaranteed ACC games and they don't require conference membership for the playoff then there's no reason to make a panic move.

5 + Clemson, Stanford, Navy, Southern Cal & rotating MAC team annually = 10.

We shouldn't struggle to find 2 more very good games from Big 10, Big 12 and SEC.

I don't think they will ever exclude ND from the playoffs so the only real question is if the ACC ever tries to force our hand by ending the agreement or if the ACC dies.

USC is going to drop the ND rivalry due to the Big Ten schedule, and then Irish fans will call them pussies and deflect that the costs for independence are starting to add up.

Who really gives a shit, though?

It's all changing massively in 5 or so years anyway.

They will be pussies if they stop playing it each year.

If/when it happens it is going to make ND's life as an Independent more difficult. Not impossible though.

The ACC, Big10 and SEC would all love to have us.

The SEC is least realistic and they really have no leverage/trump card to force ND to pick them if push comes to shove.

The ACC could always threaten to end the 5 game agreement as a way to try to force ND to join.

The Big 10 has the way to guarantee the future of the USC game each year.

It won't shock me if the Big 10 pressures them to drop the yearly ND game as a way to force our hand.

I don’t see how this affects us in the least. ND will the one of the first out of conference calls on many teams call lists.
Especially if other conferences get pushed in the direction of the ACC where revenue is split on viewership… a mid season game against ND might double the viewership of the lower tier P4 teams, so I think we’ll still get those type of games scheduled

As long as we keep our scheduled games against Texas, Alabama, and Florida, and SEC teams still want to play us.

What everyone is actually angling for -- networks, conferences, playoff -- is making it so the Curt Cignettis of the world are punished for scheduling how he is OOC. Nobody wants to watch shit games, everyone would prefer that the Power 4 play 11ish games each year against power conference opponents. It's funny how many people are misunderstanding what the push towards "more AQs" is actually about... stakeholders WANT the marquee OOC games... they just don't want to be penalized if they lose one of them.

What has the cost been that is adding up - exclude hypotheticals.

The counter would be the “Cinderella” story that was IU is good and part of college sports. Villains like Cignetti has become also good. So while fuck Cignetti, the same 20 schools always going to the playoffs isn’t as fun as it may sound, even if they are the most deserving.

As a Miami fan I would love an annual matchup with Notre Dame. Would be good for both of our SOSs now too. SEC moving to 9 conference games + 10 P4 / ND is going to give them the SOS argument in CFP discussions

It’s fun if your school is one of the 20. 😉☘️
