I've given up on trying to predict what's positive because the unintended consequences have surprised me at every turn of this thing. (I do agree it looks bad though. From a neutral viewer perspective, the big non-conference games are one of the best parts of the sports. Have to assume to the TV partners are pushing this.

The rumored B10 v SEC “challenge” would really fuck us more than this.

The long-term Clemson deal was always a hedge against this stuff. We don’t also need a long-term series with Miami too, at that point we might as well just join the ACC in full.

Man I do not understand this logic at all. I personally think it's crazy that Miami has been able to duck ND since the start of the ACC contract. Plenty of ND fans still hate the U and would like to play them more often. We're not talking about adding on either of the Techs or Wake, this is frigging Miami! I'd relish the opportunity to see Marcus & co drag their low down raggedy behinds up and down the field, while also getting a bump in SOS (to the CFP).

As long as we can still get the guaranteed ACC games and they don't require conference membership for the playoff then there's no reason to make a panic move.

5 + Clemson, Stanford, Navy, Southern Cal & rotating MAC team annually = 10.

We shouldn't struggle to find 2 more very good games from Big 10, Big 12 and SEC.

I don't think they will ever exclude ND from the playoffs so the only real question is if the ACC ever tries to force our hand by ending the agreement or if the ACC dies.

If/when it happens it is going to make ND's life as an Independent more difficult. Not impossible though.

The ACC, Big10 and SEC would all love to have us.

The SEC is least realistic and they really have no leverage/trump card to force ND to pick them if push comes to shove.

The ACC could always threaten to end the 5 game agreement as a way to try to force ND to join.

The Big 10 has the way to guarantee the future of the USC game each year.

It won't shock me if the Big 10 pressures them to drop the yearly ND game as a way to force our hand.

If the CFP really is going to emphasize SOS and the Big 10 / SEC challenge is off, then you could argue our independence is in a better spot today than we were a week ago.

Especially if other conferences get pushed in the direction of the ACC where revenue is split on viewership… a mid season game against ND might double the viewership of the lower tier P4 teams, so I think we’ll still get those type of games scheduled

What everyone is actually angling for -- networks, conferences, playoff -- is making it so the Curt Cignettis of the world are punished for scheduling how he is OOC. Nobody wants to watch shit games, everyone would prefer that the Power 4 play 11ish games each year against power conference opponents. It's funny how many people are misunderstanding what the push towards "more AQs" is actually about... stakeholders WANT the marquee OOC games... they just don't want to be penalized if they lose one of them.

As a Miami fan I would love an annual matchup with Notre Dame. Would be good for both of our SOSs now too. SEC moving to 9 conference games + 10 P4 / ND is going to give them the SOS argument in CFP discussions
