It’s stupid. This year instead of debating ND/Miami/BYU we’re debating like Utah, USC, Michigan, Texas, Georgia Tech, Vandy, etc….as you expand the field teams will be less differentiated, not more. And you’ll be including a ton of teams that have no business winning a national title.
But on the flipside, no team with a realistic chance to win the title will be left out which to me is more important. I'm less concerned about the debates between Utah, Michigan, USC, etc. because none of those teams can win a title so their inclusion or exclusion does nothing. The problem with 12 teams is teams that could conceivably win the title (us, even Miami and if I'm being charitable maybe Texas) are at risk of missing the playoffs so we can put BYU (if they win), JMU, Tulane, Duke, or even UVA in who have no shot of winning the title and would be lucky to even win a single playoff game. I would rather make sure every legitimately great to elite team gets in and let in more scrubs than the current system.

So what about Va vs Duke and the ramifications of that game?
Va wins, they’re in as is the top G5 team?
If Duke wins? They aren’t going to get in w that record are they?
They won’t leave the ACC out altogether will they?
Would they put Miami in so as to represent the ACC?
Can’t go w 2 G5 programs to round out the 12 could they?
Assume we’re pulling for Va.

I would be pissed if ND doesn't make it AND I lost money on it. Especially at that odds.

100%, no (potential) champion left behind! And we'll all yawn at the debates over a 11-2 BYU and and 10-2 Utah at best with 16 teams.
But more importantly, every potential champion - TX, AL, Vandy, ND, Miami - will be assured to get into the field.

And think about how much more exciting the games will be from the 1st round of CFP to the CG!

This has been my question. Hopefully it doesn't come down to this game but what are we hoping for here?

Virginia - they will not shut the door on the ACC.
Yeah, if you wanted to just hedge on all possible angles and conspiracies, I would say our rooting interests (from least to most important imo):
Boise over UNLV
UVA over Duke
UGA over Bama
TT over BYU

The good news is for the first time in a long time it feels like we're finally pulling for the better teams/favorites. The last few weeks we had been pulling for upsets.

I'd throw the fighting Geordy Porkers of Troy over JMU on there as the least important. JMU losing might get Duke in in case they upset Virginia.

This is where chaos ensues. No I don’t think that’s a good option either. Nor do the TV execs.
Which is why Duke will get the spot and then at least no one can complain about the ACC being left out.

They don't have to drop BYU if they don't want to. They can just point to them having an "extra data point" and not wanting to punish them. They could also drop them. At the end of the day, I feel the committee knows who they want in and if the chips fall the right way, they'll make up whatever justification they require to make it happen. If BYU wins, their hands are tied.
Why would the committee want BYU in? The Big XII is cheeks and BYU is probably the least popular team from that sham of a league.

Honestly, I think it’s all a mistake and we should go back to bowls and voting at the end of bowl season.
The playoff is fun once the games start. Quit the weekly bullshit and just release it at the end. This constant bitching every week is the problem.

And right or wrong, I would feel WAY better about our chances if we didn't have a weekly rankings release. It would be the best teams at the end of the season, not a political campaign.

Imagine how pissed any bowl game is to have them. Poor bros can’t even drink caffeinated pop, let alone alcohol.

Our best argument is the 93 FSU NC screw job and the fact that we will be only one of two teams on a ten game winning streak. Add to that double digit wins in all cases. We haven’t been really tested except for a moment against usc. Double digit points have also been routinely left on the field as well. Add to which we haven’t played our second and third stringers for over a quarter is several games while Miami has been passing long with starters to the bitter end gunning for style points. Hope we have an advocate on the committee as eloquent about this as I am!
