Pete Nakos from On3 posted a new list and he’s off it. The top 3 names they’re focused on are Kiffin, Brohm and one other I forgot. His buyout is also apparently extremely expensive
FWIW the buyout part came from a mod on the On3 Gator site. It wouldn’t surprise me if he said no and they threw out the buyout excuse to save face

Saw a social media post this morning, I should have saved it, but whatever,... it basically broke down how MF is great bc winning at ND and getting to a natty at a school without real talent is insane. I got curious and clicked on the page, and a few posts down was stating BK needs to be fired and isn't a real coach.... make of it what you will, but spocial media, smh,...

There is certainly starting to get a little too much smoke for me to not start to become a little uncomfortable.

Just saw a clip from the Dan Le Batard Show where Mike Ryan (Producer / Canes insider co-owner) said Freeman & Kiffin are the leading candidates at both PSU & Florida
I understand questioning the credibility of the source, but he has many sources all over college football and broke the Cristobal to UM story before any of the national people had it.

He is guessing that Florida would be willing to go over the Kirby Smart $13M yearly amount to get either candidate.
Threw out $15M

No matter where Coach Freeman is coaching next year, I think it is safe to say at this point it will be for a substantial amount more then what he is coaching for this season.

Best of luck to him as he makes this monumental decision in his life for him and his family.
I obviously want him to stay with the good guys, and hopefully the university and athletics administration will prove to him over the next few weeks that he has everything he needs to win long term here.

Here is the clip for context.

Calling Cristobal to Miami isn’t impressive to me, Cristobal is a Hurricane alum and Miami native.

No way ND has a $40m buy out for Freeman to leave on his own. No coach has that.

Not making the other team pay the buyout is such insane, pretentious old-school nonsense. Don't negotiate it if you aren't going to enforce it. Classic ND.

A buyout will not be an obstacle to MF leaving, UF would just pay it. Imo, UF is not a better job than ND. But even if it were a better job, it isn't that much better. It's one thing if you have a 50k job and are offered a two jobs that pay 200k, and pick the one you think is better (e.g., Meyer in 2004, at a time when the UF was better). In that case, you are already choosing to change jobs. But MF already has a 200k-type job and (imo) the costs of moving, starting over, developing goodwill among the fanbase, etc., exceed any advantage another job would offer. Maybe OSU because he went there and is from there. But not PSU and not UF.

I think it's pretty clear by now we were more than happy to see him go. Probably didn't want to spook LSU with any buyout talk. Only half kidding.
Yep, hindsight maybe that should have given LSU some pause lol But again I have no idea how true this actually is

Kiffin seems to make the most sense of UF. Fisch is an alum and if he reportedly loves the school, they have to probably have a look. He got things right at Arizona and he appears to be on the right track at UW.

Fisch is 49 and has coached under some pretty heavy hitters in both college and the NFL. I think how he assembles a staff is going to be key and something he should be asked about in the interview.

I think Dillingham ends up somewhere else when this shakes out. I think he would be good at UF, but even Mizzou or Ole Miss.

Completely fair point. It didn't take a rocket scientist to put that connection together.
However, he was the executive producer for one of the biggest sports radio shows in the country for the past decade, and co owns a Canes insider forum currently.
For soccer fans, he also broke the Messi to Inter Miami story before anyone else in the world really credible had it. Which was shocking at the time.
The man has some sources is all I'm saying.

I don't think it is likely that Coach Freeman would leave for PSU or Florida. It would be a lateral move at best, and I believe ND would match any offer he would get financially from those schools or any other school that has an opening over the next few weeks and months.
Personally, I'm worried that if the the Bengals head coaching position opens up, that it would make sense for him with his Cincinnati roots and his "reported" desire to coach in the NFL.

I just felt it was worth sharing.

Florida's 2026 schedule:

UGA in ATL on Halloween
at Auburn
at FSU
at Kentucky
at Texas
at Mizzou

Home to FAU, Campbell, Vanderbilt, SCar, Ole Miss and OU.

That's a very daunting task.

By the way, when does the new football facility open?
I thought I saw something about it being next year.

I just don't see MF leaving to take another CFB job even if the money is a big bump. I think he truly wants to bring home a natty for ND. Just listen to him talk to sideline reporters, in interviews, and press conferences. He doesn't speak or sound like the typical football coach. The man has a totally different perspective.

Never rule out the NFL regardless of how little HC experience MF has. These are billionaire owners that are known to spend some stupid money to try and win.
