I'm at the point now, and I'm probably wrong, but the only job MF will leave for is an NFL job. I guarantee he'll be a hot name again in a few months for them. He just seems to be too much of a strong leader of men and literally a younger Tomlin and Vrabel

I think OSU would have a very good shot at prying him away from us. Idk if anyone else would be able to for several years. Hes got a pretty good gig here.

I don't really know if he's interested in the NFL. Some guys just aren't. We won't really know until he gets a serious offer, but I think it takes more than a good year or two in college for the NFL to be interested in a college guy. I still think that day is probably a couple of years down the line.

I tend to agree. On one hand, I think every coach knows that although the NFL is a grind like any other football gig, you can leave it in the office/facilities. No recruiting. That has to cut the workload down so much.

On the other hand, Freeman just seems to jive with these young college kids. Maybe that translates to the NFL but I'm not sure. At any rate, he knows he's got this thing rolling here and it took him 3 years to get the program to where it is these past couple of seasons. I feel like he is wise enough to know the grass isn't always greener. He seems genuinely happy, as do a vast majority of our fans.

Probably going to have to pay him again though, going to be a lot of that going on for the programs that are happy with their HCs with the openings rn. UF and PSU are both going to pay whatever it takes to reel in their guy. This is going to be a really bizarre coaching carousel

Brice and Sampson have both said that Freeman has accepted calls from places like Florida as professional courtesy and for negotiation purposes but they've been told that the only offers that would likely get actual serious attention from Freeman would be OSU and the NFL. I'm not sure what their sources are but early smoke does seem to indicate that Freeman is at least intrigued by going to the NFL at some point.

That's a really fair point. That has to be a huge relief to the HCs who can oversee the recruiting efforts but do more delegating. Hop on a plane for those really coveted guys but otherwise, focus on the Xs and Os.

And from a money perspective, Freeman likely sits around the top 10 of NFL head coach salaries. You could very well make more money in the NFL, but I just can't see that risk calculus of landing somewhere subpar and flaming out making it worth it. Freeman seems to be the kind of guy that relishes the mentorship role that comes along with coaching College that you don't really get in the NFL.

Man, I don't disagree with that hypothetically, but I don't think Clark leaves Vandy. That's his alma mater, and he left a pretty cushy situation to take on that hot mess of a program and has things as good as they've ever been down there.

I think the only way this realistically happens is Clark coaches 10-20 years at Vandy, has a lot of success but needs a break, and returns to coaching a couple of years later at ND.

Just saw a clip from the Dan Le Batard Show where Mike Ryan (Producer / Canes insider co-owner) said Freeman & Kiffin are the leading candidates at both PSU & Florida
I understand questioning the credibility of the source, but he has many sources all over college football and broke the Cristobal to UM story before any of the national people had it.

He is guessing that Florida would be willing to go over the Kirby Smart $13M yearly amount to get either candidate.
Threw out $15M

No matter where Coach Freeman is coaching next year, I think it is safe to say at this point it will be for a substantial amount more then what he is coaching for this season.

Best of luck to him as he makes this monumental decision in his life for him and his family.
I obviously want him to stay with the good guys, and hopefully the university and athletics administration will prove to him over the next few weeks that he has everything he needs to win long term here.

Part of this is after the 0 - 2 start, folks don’t expect Freeman to make the CFP this year and thus he would be far and away the best candidate you could hire before NSD and the portal opens.

There is also a perception because of BK that SEC > ND job wise. “It already happened once”
