Harry was good his first time around, the 2nd act not so much

Harry to judge Harry's 2nd act, he only got a year to work. However he helped land Jaguash for the 2023 class, as well as Absher and Otting who are in the 2 deep behind upperclassmen. He probably did put more into recruiting during his first stint, but we know he didn't care for recruiting as it was. I think the OL was in a better position after that one year than what Quinn left him (And Hiestand left Quinn in good position before).

I honestly think him coming back was more of a favor and everyone knew it was temporary as he wanted to be retired. He was retired living in Niles, MI so we sort of got lucky he was available and close for a short time to fill the gap.

Everybody going to On3.

In the last two years, Wiltfong, Wasserman, Staples and now Pate. Maybe I’m missing another guy or two?

Any big names left out there that will jump to On3…

noticed the Athletic are pivoting away from the "serious journalists following specific teams" model into more of a broader multimedia/sports and culture focus. They just signed Pablo Torre too

I really like Pablo Torre. I enjoyed him on ATH.

The athletic has become pretty terrible. I used to enjoy Sampson but his work has tailed off. Their college football coverage is a shell of its former self. I canceled my subscription.

So they're trying to become the shitty late years version of Deadspin? Bold strategy, let's see if it pays off for them.

I went to cancel last year, they gave me a $5/month rate. I said ok.

Went to cancel this year, they gave me a $1/month rate. I said ok.

I'll prob cancel next year unless they offer me a beej/month or something.

What will that fake Josh Pate that On3 hired do now?

Thank god I can consume 247/CBS content without having them reference Pate now

Pate is garbage, I wouldn't list him among big names. He talked a lot of shit against ND, betting against them in the playoffs and several other games. "My model says otherwise." Your model is trash. Then of course he finally got it right in the title game and I'm pretty sure he was smug about it. Dude is an assclown.

JD Pickel on On3 was claiming knowledge on ND’s QB battle. He stated they were letting each QB run the ones on opposite days. The thought was this would allow Denbrock to call plays to each QB’s strength. Regardless, I think it’s fair to say that this has become much closer than fans & media expected.

Listening to The Independent today, Pete & Matt noted a mailbag question. This is how much we fans read into stuff that likely is a nothing burger. This fan said that on the new EA Sports CFB game, CJ Carr is the default starting QB. He evidently follows J. Love on social media b/c he noted that Love always uses Minchey as his QB meaning he has to consciously make the change. LOL! Gotta love the offseason boys!

I always picked a team with a mobile QB back in my old NCAA days. K -State used to be killer. Perhaps he prefers the same thing.

Good for Fields. It’s a dumb question and Fields seems laser focused on the season.
It’s a fair question to ask a big-time transfer like Fields. But Fields smart enough to know that answering it doesn’t help anyone.

Sampson’s Athletic stuff tends to ebb and flow with the news - I’d imagine it’ll pick up here with the season arriving - but yeah their broader college football coverage is not what it used to be.
And in general they don’t seem to produce at the same volume anymore. I go to their homepage a couple times a day and it’s often stale, multiple-day old stories up top.

Hot take: I like Josh Pate.

Yes, he always bets against Notre Dame, but he's definitely one of the more entertaining CFB talking heads to listen to. I'm happy for him.
