He was terrible at his job and not qualified to be hired in the first place.

Pretty sure that Couv got hired by 247 after cutting his teeth at Slap The Sign or something like that. It was a brief tenure but he didn't go straight from here to 247

I think he also had his own youtube channel that covered high school recruiting

I actually didn't think his writing was that bad? He would put out some good long-form articles about recruits and their backgrounds.

He just was getting zero scoop (neither was/is Eric Thomas). II told us they would be the ones to make up for Loy leaving and it was a fail. Bit unfair as it wasn't what he was originally hired to do. He also would push back at posters who would criticize him. End of the day I wish him well, great Irish fan.

SIAP but I finally got around to reading the latest edition of the Rakes Report; Chris absolutely put USC and Riley on blast about their vagueness regarding future schedule as it pertains to ND. Cowards to even think about ending the annual rivalry.

The whole thing is ALWAYS a good read, but here's that excerpt below, for those interested who might not have read it:

One reason this might be helpful long term is that it seems like USC is getting ready to pull the plug on playing Notre Dame annually. Lincoln Riley, a coward, has been whining about it and in a recent interview Trojans athletic director Jen Cohen, a coward, said this:

Lincoln has talked a lot about future nonconference scheduling. Everyone wants to know about the Notre Dame series. What’s the outlook for that rivalry?
It’s such an important series to our fans and both universities. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: In an ideal world, we’re going to keep playing each other. With that being said, the landscape has changed dramatically. We’re now playing in a conference where we fly back and forth across the country every other week, and CFP expansion and how you get access to the CFP and how things are seeded and selected. Those, to me, are important, unanswered questions. So we remain in conversations with Notre Dame about the series. I think we’re clear to each other (that) we’re going to continue to evaluate what’s best, and it’s my job to evaluate what’s best for our student-athletes and our program. As we keep doing that, we’re excited to go back to South Bend next year.
Embarrassing. In the words of the late, great David Lynch, “Fix your hearts.” It’s important to remember no one forced the Trojans to join the Big Ten and put themselves in a position where they “fly back and forth across the country every other week.” It’s also important to remember that if you don’t suck at football, the travel is less of a big deal (USC was Maryland’s only Big Ten win; Notre Dame beat AAC champ Army on one coast and then a week later beat the Trojans on the other). It’s a shame to see the Trojans, who for years leaned into aggressive non-conference games, go this route. They canceled a series with Ole Miss (Lane Bowl would have been so cool), tried to get out of their game with LSU last season and now have a sparse future non-conference slate.

While Big Ten programs love to act like playing nine conference games makes them braver than the troops, they don’t have to do that. If the Big Ten announced they were moving to eight conference games and mandating at least one Power Four opponent in non-con for their schools because it would be good for college football, that arrangement would have a high approval rating. A retort could be “Our bloated monstrosity of a conference already fails to have balanced league schedules with nine games so moving to eight would make us even more of a loose scheduling consortium without an identity or purpose” but, again, no one made you do that. In the words of the late, great Robert Morse as Bert Cooper, “You sold your birthright so you could marry that trollop.” (Let’s bring “trollop” back into the lexicon.) Instead, it seems like the Big Ten and SEC are going to try and destroy the sport so they can make a few extra bucks to rule over a pile of ash and degenerate gamblers.

I love the Notre Dame/USC rivalry and hope it is preserved but if one side wants to increase their chances of going 8-4 instead of 7-5 every season via cowardice there isn’t much to be done on the Irish end, unless you know Trojan donors who can step up and threaten/shame them into maintaining it.

Someone give me the Cliff's Notes on the Loy saga.

A decent collection of posters have been extremely critical of him of recent, more than just a one off joke like mine in the Bowden thread for example. Very direct daily attacks on his professional ability and continued presence on ND board. There is a “Ask Tom” thread since he left and they basically attacked him so much he said he’ll leave then.

There is since a thread calling out the outrageous bad behavior of a small handful that has like 150 upvotes and the trolls complaining that their First Amendment right will be taken away if they don’t get to whine constantly. Prister had a pretty serious reply too.

Imagine basically the worst day of infighting on IE ever, that happens daily on Irish Illustrated.

It's amazing some of those guys seemingly haven't made it over here with the volume in which they bitch post. The people mad about food threads here would be in a world of hurt.

Gracias. I keep forgetting he's switched jobs. I quit getting so involved in recruiting, it's a young man's game.

From today's ISD Power Hour:

-Jamie said that Katoanga was a silent to ND
-Jamie is worried about the lack of WR targets that ND is seriously in on and believes that based on how they botched last year's class, there is zero room for error at the position
-Very excited about the OL class now and how it could finish
-Mike is impressed with how they're getting all these kids to lock-in their OV's this early
-Mike is really, really high on Minchey
-More thoughts on the QB competition: Will be much closer than people think, people are sleeping on Minchey, Angeli will be difficult to beat out and can win 10 games next year as the starter
-On paying HS recruits: people around the program have told Mike that they'll justify missing out on a player of need or someone who turned into a stud by saying that they got someone else who they like but maybe isn't as good as the player they could've had, at a fraction of the cost.
-Regarding the above, Mike is very frustrated by this and says that the staff needs to have conviction - if a player is a good fit culturally and academically and is a top-tier player, show conviction and buy them. "Don't tell me you're not a football factory, you've paid players. You're not above any other school. Paying players is legal. Don't tell me 'oh, it's Notre Dame and we do things different.' No, you're making it more difficult for your rock-star coach."
-They don't have a toxic locker room with respect to NIL. They've paid players and they've been perfectly fine at ND. Mike and Jamie pointed this out and asked why ND makes it so hard on themselves. If they pay a lot for top-tier players and they sign with ND, the evidence so far shows that the locker room will be fine. Those players will be good teammates.
-Jamie joked that the recruiting issues that Al Washington and Mike Brown have wouldn't exist if they just threw big money at the top players on the board at DL and WR.
