That was extremely interesting to watch. It is a rare chance to listen to thoughtful remarks by a respected veteran accomplished ND man. And what he said was new to me. People gripe about Coach Kelly all the time, but frankly I don't hear the things in those gripes that ring true to me. This one does. My concern for Coach was always an odd type of concern. I thought that his fault was that he was too much of a Big Business Organizational President. It was something that ND badly needed at first to shape its somewhat shabby facilities, procedures, discipline up. He did all of that with his famous "attention to details" (and that about Everything.) But it, like big top down organizations, got a little too "mechanical", and complicated, and the raw emotional element and explosive nature of individuals merging like an onslaught force couldn't fully surface.

Isaac Rochelle is telling us that this is why this current team is different. He says that his guys were good, really good. That his guys had natural leadership skills, all over the locker room. But in this current team, that leadership is in a culture where it can (properly) explode, and during his time it could not. That's what he sees as the difference between Freeman and Kelly. Only a player could tell this credibly. I buy it, because I trust the quality and standing of Isaac Rochelle. And the remarks fit. .... and might fit even what will happen down at LSU. I don't view these comments as a knock on Coach Kelly, but a raising up of Coach Freeman's unusual ability to create a type of team plus individual plus leadership plus "communion" in a huge energy-bursting tribal sense that almost no highly organized system developers can.

... very interesting inside-the-spirit insights.

7-8 year career. Not bad for Rochell

Yeah for guys like him to get the three years and secure the nfl pension and healthcare is the goal, the fact that he kept going as long as he did is a big achievement

I remember Prister back in 16 or 17 saying something along the lines of “do you think Rochell is a 5 year NFL guy? Not me.” I think our best guys have a terrible handle on the NFL career prospects of our guys but that’s because their focus is college. They forget that a guy like ESB and Rochell can have a long career at the end of the roster and those are valid data points for high school recruits and the strength of your team’s quality.

I didn’t even realize ESB was still in the league.
