If feels like the ND beat has been on this for a while. So what keeps them from just spilling the beans if they know he's been a silent to another team? Is it because it may hurt their business of reporting on other prospects, or is it truly for the clicks?

Because it seems like the entire ND beat could have just ended the charade by saying "we don't think he's coming and ND is making other relationships with 2025 QBs in case he decommits"

That should have been the end of the story. Except we got, "don't feel good... wait, things feel good... ope not feeling good again... he's coming for Stanford!" Please, if he's been a silent for a month, they've known about it.
I agree that something just doesnt feel right about this.

I'm also surprised that we havent seen the ND media throw out a bunch of names of replacements. Qb is the most important aspect of every recruiting class and the beat has been expecting this for months. Every site should have had an article written and ready to post about possible replacements... Its not like wildly speculative articles havent been written in the past.

My suspicion is that a replacement has been in the works for a while and that the beat has been told not to publicize it. They cant reveal the name while at the same time, it makes no sense to throw out other names when you already know who it is going to be. When the replacement become public knowledge, I fully expect the beat guys to say that they have known about this for months but werent allowed to say anything.

I mean, that was the general tenor on ISD. They weren't optimistic that he'd end up in the class (and said so). They put out updates, but they didn't mislead readers with something like "Things may be picking back up with ND and Deuce!". There was no clickbait or sunshine pumping.

Just once I’d like to see freeman withdraw the offer when it’s abundantly clear someone is going to hang him out to dry. You want to be dumped or do the dumping? It’s not like you like this girl as she is flirting around and telling you she has to see a “Friend”. Of course I don’t know from experience but I can imagine how it might be. ND getting left at the altar is going to happen a lot with 5 star low character guys. Was it Kelly who coined the RKG for ND?
This.

Alright Auburn, them fighting words. Please meet outside the Y
Let's be honest here. DK went to Auburn for the money for him and for his family. Wasnt about going to the better school academically nor football wise. Auburn has been in the dumpster for years and that isnt changing anytime soon. Dont understand when classless fan bases thump their chest like they accomplished something when all that happened was someone just spent a lot of someone elses money on a maybe thing.

Strap on your big boy pants fellas because the frequency of these types of things is only going to increase. ND has to chase some of the elite recruits, this is just the new game they play. If you want to go back to 2010 and the RKGs, you should stop following NIL era recruiting.

I would like that as well, but I don't think he can in public. For all we know, the offer was pulled, but since ND can't comment on recruits until they sign, the kid can just keep the ND commit next to his name. It sounds like Deuce has known he was going to Auburn for a while. I would like the talking heads to call out some of the duplicity of these kids. I keep hearing the excuse of "there just kids" or "they have people giving them bad advice." If Deuce is smart enough to hold up Auburn for $100,000 a visit, I don't blame him for doing it. I don't even blame him for going there (except he is probably committing to a lame duck coach.) But if he was really telling ND that he was coming for Stanford or telling other recruits he was coming, I would love for the people who can talk about him to call him on the carpet. You demand that kind of money, you open yourself up to criticism. He can put his big boy pants on, and people can stop telling us how these kids don't understand things.

There is talent there 100%, but me thinks we dodged a bullet; and again, is someone who even if he hung on to his ND commitment, was gonna be outta here come the first solid TP opportunity esp. w/ him likely not starting ahead of Carr. Now let's go get us a Minchey Pt. Deux!!

Guys.

Recruiting HS QB's isn't that important anymore now that you can just buy a new, experienced one every year. And the HS kids don't tend to stick around long anyhow.

Auburn will at BEST win 5 games this year, and will probably end up 4-8 or 3-9. Going to be interesting to see if the bags dry up after that
Buddy of mine is an Auburn grad and he claims Freeze is very safe and basically has 3 recruiting classes to turn things around before they would entertain the idea of "slowing down." They are currently paying 3 coaches to not coach, so I imagine the leash is pretty long.

RKGs would be cheaper…

And USC, LSU (2x), and Oklahoma (2x) have gotten Heisman Trophy winners from transfers, what's your point?
I think the difficulty with ND and transfer QBs is that they have only been able to get graduates admitted. A one year rental at QB can be hit or miss because of having to adapt to a new system, etc. In the case of Caleb Williams and Joe Burrow, they were both two year players at USC and LSU not to mention Lincoln Riley was Caleb’s coach at Oklahoma. Kyler Murray went to Oklahoma for 3 years although only played for 2. Williams won in his first year but having the same coach made that much easier. Maybe at some point ND could take a transfer QB with 2 years of eligibility but so far that hasn’t been the case. Not only that, we’ve had 3 different OCs the past 3 years.

To be fair, the process *could* work… we just keep picking the wrong guys.

Cam Ward is balling at Miami. Howard (who we passed on) won the Ohio State job over highly ranked guys. The dude from Louisville was pretty darn good.
This. The evaluations and choices of when and who to pursue have been mind boggling, especially at the QB position.

Leonard is currently a true senior. It would be interesting to see what he might be able to do with a second year under Denbrock. Alas he played too much as a freshman and is out of eligibility after this year.
